Crashing Hard (Loving the Sound Book 2) Page 15

“Yeah. I want to play every chance that I can. Especially knowing that I have four games before they take me off the ice again. I should probably get going.”

Jenna smirked, given how he wanted to play hockey more than he wanted his surgery, she wasn’t surprised how he wanted to play despite everything. She could understand his desire to play tonight.

“Don’t look at me like that. I will take you in the bathroom right here and now,” Corey said with a laugh. “I should get to practice. I’m already late. The only saving grace is that I know I won’t have a fine since I’ve been at the hospital this morning.” He waggled his eyebrows. “Come to think of it, we could have some fun before I go.”

Jenna just shook her head. “Nooo. Get to practice. Besides, I need to get back to work. You are one hell of a distraction.”

  “But you love it.”

  “Yes, I do.”

  Corey

The pregame routine was all sorts of thrown today. He knew that things were fucked up. At least the coaching and medical staff were all understanding of the situation and were keeping his secret for now. He just wouldn’t travel with the team on the next road trip the following Tuesday.

He was hanging out in the locker room and listening to music on his headphones. Trying to use the music to get himself motivated. But the bops that he normally gravitated toward before the game just weren’t getting him fired up.

Petey tried to get him to join a game of soccer to get his hand-eye coordination working, but tonight he wasn’t feeling it. He decided to hit the bikes instead for a dynamic warmup.

There weren’t many guys who favored the bikes for warmup. It was typically just Scotty and the goalies. As he was starting to really pick up the speed both Crestie and Lordy headed out. That’s when Scotty tossed a lacrosse ball that was apparently in the water bottle holder on the bike that he rode. Corey barely caught it in time. He took an AirPod out knowing that Scotty was in the mood to talk.

“Alright we’re alone. What’s going on? Did you and Jenna get in a fight?”

“God no. It’s not that,” Corey said emphatically.

“I haven’t seen you this quiet in a long time. It’s not like you.”

Corey closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Can you keep a secret?”

Scotty looked at him like he was crazy. Of course Scotty could keep a secret. He proved that by not sharing how Corey hit Jenna with a car. But being the good captain Scotty was, he didn’t actually curse him out. Instead he just stared at Corey with an arched eyebrow.

“You’re right, I know you can. I got a melanoma diagnosis this morning and they don’t know if it spread. So instead of going to Canada with you guys, they got to do some testing and remove it.”

Scotty was quiet. Very quiet for the moment. The only sound was the whirling from the two stationary bikes. “Fuck, man. No wonder you’re in a funk, but we gotta win tonight. If only for our sanity. Alice would have a field day if we lost.”

That got Corey laughing. It was the first reminder that they were playing Philadelphia tonight. If they played poorly, Alice for sure would give them shit. Jenna on the other hand wouldn’t give him a hard time. She was a fantastic girlfriend; she supported him in the lows and highs. But he didn’t need Al getting on his case especially since she would nitpick some.

Scotty stopped his peddling and hopped off the bike. “You got this. Let’s have some fun tonight and the rest of the homestand.” He clapped his hand on Corey’s shoulder. “Let’s get some drinks later.”

  “Trying to repeat last year?”

Scotty shook his head with a laugh. “Oh, hell no. Berman still threatens me with extra laps for getting everyone hungover last year. Just me and you. Depending on the girls’ mood, they can come too.”

“That sounds good.” He liked when they could double date. He was surprised that the talk with Scotty actually helped him feel better. They needed to have some fun. Winning the game would definitely be fun and then knowing they were going out would be fun. Corey stopped his pedaling and picked up the AirPod out the cup. “But you are buying if we win tonight.”

“Deal. But if Phil wins, you buy.”

Corey just shook his head. Scotty always knew when to incentivize the guys and when they didn’t need it. Then again, Corey just hated paying out money on bets. While signing the killer deal over the summer made it feel a hell of a lot easier to lose bets, he was a competitive SOB who hated losing. Then it dawned on him: that’s why Scotty made the bet.

Corey quickly got suited up for warmups. The locker room was filled with rock music. Apparently Dykstman decided to start the music up and the room was rocking. Everyone seemed really loose. They all knew it was a big game, mainly because of the divisional points on the line. As Corey was taping up his sticks for the night, Berman started the usual pep talk about playing hard, playing right and thinking about one game at a time. He also announced the starting lineup, which was surprising. They decided to roll out with the freak line for the first time for five on five play and pushed Corey up to the top line.

Then it was time for the tunnel. It was practically routine at this point although you never knew what Schultzy would say to everyone. It seemed like he had new nicknames for almost everyone as they started to give high fives, fist bumps and etc. Corey walked down and stood beside Petey like normal.

  Petey asked, “You good?”

“Yeah. Doctor’s appointments suck and this morning was a little bit of a doozy.”

“Can’t be that bad if you’re still playing.”

“Exactly.” He knew that he had to fill in Petey on everything later.

Then they all started to fly out onto the ice. The moment he stepped out onto the clean sheet of ice, everything felt right in Corey’s world. His wrist felt good and he liked the idea of being on the first line. He looked up into where the wives and girlfriends’ section was. He was pretty sure he could see Jenna looking down at him and he loved it.

Then it was time to go back to the locker room. They all changed out of warmups jerseys. Lager and Scotty were joking around and trying to get the whole team loose. It was just contagious. Eventually the two of them took a seat at their lockers.

Lager looked at Corey and asked, “What are the odds the three of us will score right at the get-go?”

“If Scotty wins the draw, we have it,” said Corey with confidence. They were so fast and talented. It was half the reason their combo worked so well on the power play. The only wild card was getting the puck. While Scotty was good at the faceoff draw, Philly was the best in the league.

Then it was time to get out onto the ice for the national anthem and the ceremonial puck drop.

  Jenna

Jenna and Alice were waiting at the bar around the corner from the arena. It was a hole in a wall that had a fantastic beer list. Plus it seemed like most people didn’t realize the guys would like to go there after games so they could usually get a table without a problem.

Jenna couldn’t wait to see Corey. He played so amazing that night. She hoped that she could have headed back to their house before the game but it seemed like she was putting out fires all day and couldn’t step away from her computer long enough to drive back home.

It was tough not talking to Alice about Corey’s cancer, if only to know how best to support him but she couldn’t betray his trust. So they kept talking about the game and how the Sound were proving to everyone that they were the best team in the metro division yet again. It seemed rather shallow.

As they were getting into a rather heated debate of who was going into the playoffs in the eastern conference, both Corey and Scotty snuck up and sat down beside them. Jenna was pleasantly surprised that Corey slid his warm hand up her thigh and then kept running it up and down, getting closer and closer to her clit. She tried to maintain concentration but it was a losing battle, although she did have enough self-control that she didn’t audibly groan in pleasure.

  “S
eems like quite the discussion here,” said Corey while Scotty kissed his wife causing her to lose her train of thought and go quiet for a moment. “Need a tiebreak?”

That got Jenna laughing. “Yeah. Can you make sure you guys beat both Memphis and Pittsburgh this week?”

“What about Carolina and New York?” asked Scotty.

“Well then you might prove Alice’s theory that New York will not get into the playoffs,” said Jenna with a frown.

“So she wants Columbus and Pittsburgh as the wild cards?” asked Corey.

  “Yup,” said Alice.

“Interesting,” said Scotty. “I wouldn’t have expected those picks from you,” he said, looking down at his wife with piqued interest.

“It’s better for the fans. More entertaining rivalries. Besides, I’m not saying either of those teams will win the cup.” She took a swig of her beer and continued, “It’s not like I actually like either of those teams.”

Scotty started to tease Alice. “Right…’cause why would you root on a rival?”

Corey’s hand started to rub and went higher up her leg and he whispered in her ear, “So Scotty is buying tonight. But we can go home whenever. I’ve missed you, beautiful.”

Jenna smiled and was glad not to be debating playoff scenarios anymore. She was torn. It was clear that Corey was in the mood to play. Then again, he was almost always in the mood to play after a win and the first night back from a road trip. Hell, she was glad that he was acting like a free spirit again, like he hadn’t been thrown for a loop. It was amazing how that kid could just pretend like the woes of the world didn’t matter when they were around their friends. She wasn’t sure if he was going to hold up with the carefree attitude once they got back to his place. When it was just the two of them, he would let his facade down. She saw his true feelings and the sensitive side that she adored.

Jenna made a quick decision; she flashed a two symbol with her fingers as she picked up her beer. She hoped that he got her meaning that they should get two drinks but then head home after. His hand moved away from her leg and up the back of her shirt.

Yup, he was to get it going on tonight, she thought as she started to insert herself back into the more audible realm.

“Seemed like you two had an amazing game. Nice to see Berman use you guys together,” said Jenna, but she was mainly staring at her man with pride. She loved watching Corey on a good night but the fact he was getting first line minutes was amazing.

“Yeah it was fun getting to play with Scotty and Lager.”

Scotty took a drink. “I’m just glad that Dykst got the second line scoring again too.”

They continued to talk hockey a little bit more. But when the bartender came to get them all refills, Corey leaned over toward Scotty and said, “We’re going to bounce after this one. Thanks for the drinks tonight.”

Scotty nodded in acknowledgment. The pool table in the back started to open up and Corey immediately asked Jenna, “Wanna play some pool?”

She nodded as she started to get up from the barstools. But she was surprised when Scotty said, “Let’s all play.”

“Us versus you guys?” asked Jenna. She really didn’t want to do girls versus guys. Alice was awful at pool, where Corey wasn’t half bad.

  “Yeah,” said Alice.

It was a quick game; Scotty was having an off night so they had their asses handed to them but it didn’t help that Corey was chirping Scotty on each of his shots. Jenna didn’t mind the chatter. It was fun. Her favorite part was the fact that she could lean into Corey when they were watching shots and he held her in a hug and she could feel his pleasure and readiness to get home.

The moment they made it inside the house, Corey grabbed her with his strong body and pushed her against the wall with a primal kiss. He thrusted his tongue into her mouth. It was like he was so pent up with emotion and he was just letting everything out.

She pulled back for some air. He growled slightly and said, “I wasn’t done yet.”

“Who said we were done?” asked Jenna when she resumed with a carnal kiss of her own where she started to grab on to his neck and his hair guiding him into her. Their tongues massaging each other and getting lost in their thoughts.

He lifted her up and she snaked her legs around his waist. It was still amazing how effortlessly he could lift her since she wasn’t tiny. He pushed the two of them toward the downstairs master suite that they normally reserved for guests or sex. Usually it was sex. He threw her on the bed.

She smiled as she took in his whole body especially as he pulled the shirt off his body. He was built and had a fantastic chest with abs that went into the perfect V. He chuckled and asked, “Why are you smirking?”

“Me?” asked Jenna, deciding to play coy.

He looked down with his eyes turning a deep lustful green. “Yes you!”

She just smirked even more and bit her lip. He was looking so strong, healthy and happy. It was such a 180 from when she saw him at Starbucks in the morning. He wasn’t the least bit vulnerable tonight. Instead he wanted her. “You.”

“Me? What did I do?” He started to climb onto the bed to get closer to her and to probably get rid of her top as well. He had her caged in with his arms and legs. His eyes looked at her with so much curiosity.

“Your morning was hell and yet it seems like it was all but forgotten.”

That’s when he started to nip at her neck before reaching for her shirt. As soon as he had his hands on the shirt, he removed his mouth so he could toss it to the side. She pulled her hair to the side again. He paused and said, “Oh, it’s not forgotten. Not even close. Just Scotty reminded me to have as much fun as I can until then. Which I plan to do. You know what?”

“What?” asked Jenna, having no clue what was going through his mind at that moment.

“You still have too many clothes on.”

“Me? I’m wearing about as much as you right now,” said Jenna with a laugh. Which got him laughing too.

“True. We should get rid of the rest of them so I can make love to you.”

She smiled. She learned when he was wooing over text her how important it was for her to know that he wasn’t ever going to just fuck her. He had the intent to show her everything and do it right. It was how he made her feel like a queen even when he was going all primal on her.

They quickly shimmied out of their bottoms, undies and socks. He started to both suckle her breast while he was massaging her clit. He was making her full with need and desire and he damn well knew it.

“Now, baby. Don’t make me wait,” whimpered Jenna.

Instead of inserting his penis into her, he started to give her oral and damn it was good. His tongue was working its magic as he sucked as far as he could. She could feel her body tense up and everything went black. She was sure she was screaming his name but everything was gone.

She was always so sensitive after an orgasm. Then her Adonis actually got into the position that she was dying for. He mounted the bed, pinned her legs down with his knees and pinned her wrists down as he started to pound into her with his enormous cock. It was rough and quick. She could feel him push further and further into her body. It didn’t take long and she felt his sweet release right as she was starting to feel her second orgasm of the night.

He collapsed beside her and they started to get their breathing back to normal. He held on to her as they rested before they started round two.

  Corey

Corey woke up in the downstairs master suite yet again. He looked over toward the beautiful brunette next to him. He smiled thinking about the four times they did it that night. She was perfect and it was the distraction that he needed. He just hoped Jenna had the stamina to keep up with him until next week.

She started to stir and remove her hands from under her ears. The removal of the hands was always the sign that she was waking up rather than adjusting her body in her sleep. So he leaned in for a soft, gentle kiss to her ear as he said,
“Morning, beautiful.”

“Mhhhmmm” was the first response he got. She turned to face him and smiled. With sleepy eyelids, she asked, “Why isn’t this our permanent bedroom?”

He laughed. He was starting to think that himself. He knew he should have more willpower to get all the way up to their bedroom yet on nights when he wanted Jenna, it was just too damn far. “I don’t know. Do you want this to be our bedroom?”

She made a soft noise that seemed to be in agreement but he could tell she had basically gone back to sleep. While he knew that he couldn’t let her sleep forever, he decided to let her catch a few more z’s. So he padded off to the kitchen.

Once he got to the kitchen, he made Jenna a simple breakfast. Unlike some of the guys on the team, his skills in the kitchen were pretty basic. While he wouldn’t poison her, he probably wouldn’t impress her too much. He just got the sweetened coffee, yogurt, a sliced-up grapefruit, a jar of jam and some toast onto a tray. At least she wouldn’t accuse him of trying to start a fire. He walked back to the bedroom and said loudly, “Come on, beautiful, wake up.”

Jenna pushed herself up onto the pillows when she saw him with the breakfast tray. She smiled widely. It was one of the most beautiful things in the world. “You know how to treat a girl right, don’t you?”

“I learned from the best,” he said with a grin. His parents had a love that was deep but subtle. Then in their friend group Alice and Scotty were the pinnacle but even Lager and Bridge were great.

He handed over the tray to Jenna and sat down beside her. While he wanted to pull her close to him and cuddle, he knew that he shouldn’t. “Do you want to make this our bedroom instead? It will be smaller than the one we have currently.”

Jenna shrugged her shoulders. “I won’t lie, I love the closets and the bathroom better upstairs. But we do sleep in this bed oh so often. What do you think?”

“It’s up to you. I don’t care where we sleep as long as we sleep together. We can keep everything upstairs and be down here.” Corey took a piece of toast off her plate and took a bite.
