Acknowledgments
There are so many people to thank for the existence of this second piece of the Broken Moon trilogy. First, I must thank the amazing team at Interlude Press for the support, patience, and opportunity to write this book.
I’d also like to thank my family. My husband, Keith, who takes on more than his fair share of chores and kiddo responsibilities so that I may have time to write and edit. I’d like to recognize my biggest fan—my brother, Rob, who bought way too many copies of The Star Host to hand out to his friends.
One of the hardest parts of writing a novel is writing in a vacuum without instant feedback. So I need to thank my team of friends who pushed me to keep writing and also listened to me rant, plot, and whine as needed. Thanks to Kristinn, Ruth, Katie, and my entire twitter feed.
Thanks to my coworkers at my day job who allowed me to practice my author signature on their copies.
And I’d like to thank Malaprops bookstore for being an amazing independent bookstore in my community and for their dedication to diverse books. Thank you for treating me like a celebrity when I came to speak to a small crowd about my debut.
And always thank you to my amazing friends from The W&M Sci-Fi and Fantasy Club.
Lastly, 2016 was rough for the sci-fi community. We lost several icons who had major impact on sci-fi as a genre, but also had an impact on me personally. They influenced my work and my life, and I am forever grateful for their movies, their music, their tv shows, and their dedication to sci-fi. Thank you, David Bowie, Ron Glass, Kenny Baker, Anton Yelchin, and of course, Carrie Fisher. To a young girl who wanted to be a princess and wield a blaster, Carrie’s portrayal of Princess Leia was everything. I’ll never forget the way she inspired me as a woman in sci-fi, but also as a writer, an unapologetic voice, and as an advocate for mental health. Though she is gone, her legacy will live on to inspire girls and women to reach for the stars and to accept themselves as they are.
