My Sister's Husband Page 20

Thankfully, when we made it to the bathroom, there wasn’t a line. We were able to get in there with the quickness. Just as I thought, Kourtney’s ass went straight to the mirror.

“I knew your stupid ass ain’t had to use the bathroom. I don’t know why I even followed ya lying ass in here,” I told her as she began applying lip gloss to her already glossy lips.

“Bitch, whatever. I needed to make sure that I look good. Besides, I do have to use the bathroom,” she said, handing me her purse. “Hold this for me.”

“I hope you hurry up, because I’m not trying to be in the bathroom all night,” I replied, taking the purse from her hand. “I already need me a drink.”

“Girl, be quiet. I’ll only be a minute,” she said before she disappeared into the stall. Since I was already in the bathroom, I decided to make sure that I was looking okay. Placing both our purses on the couch, I went over to the full-length mirror.

For a minute, I stood there staring at myself. I couldn’t lie. I knew letting Kourtney pick out an outfit for me was a bad idea. Even though I had clothes on, I was feeling somewhat naked. I had on a purple, crop top shirt, a black skirt that stopped a little above my knees that kept rising up every time I walked, with some multicolored wedge heels on. I had on light makeup, and my hair was bone straight with Chinese bangs. I was pleased with the way I looked . . . but I still felt naked.

“Bitch, would you just get over it already?” Kourtney commented, walking out of the stall. She walked over to the sink and washed her hands before she turned and looked at me.

“What I do?” I asked, confused. I had no idea what she was talking about.

“I’m talking about you standing in that mirror. You look fine, I don’t know why you think otherwise.”

“It’s just that I felt awkward. You know I don’t normally dress like this,” I said, trying to plead my case.

“I know, but you look wonderful like that. Maybe you should start dressing more like this,” she joked.

  “Ain’t gon’ happen.”

“Uh-huh. Come on, let’s get out of here. It’s time to party,” she said, leading the way.

  Dontie

When we pulled up to the club, that bitch was packed. I mean, they had a line wrapped all the way around the building. I doubted if half of the people standing outside would be able to get in. Shit, I don’t know if we were going to be able to get in. We were barely able to find a parking spot. I damn near had to circle the block three times before we found it.

“Yo, Chance, man, you see this line?” I asked as we parked the car and got out. We ended up parking two blocks away from the club, which meant that we were going to have to walk. “I don’t think we’re going to be able to get in there.”

“Chill, man, we getting in that thing the minute we walk up to the door,” he said, pulling his phone out and texting someone. “Ain’t no way we not going to get up in here, with all these people in line.”

When we arrived at the club, we walked straight up to the door, but not before hearing a few niggas bitch and a couple of hoes trying to get our attention. I’m guessing they were wondering why we wasn’t in line with them.

“What’s up, Titus, nigga?” Chance said to the bouncer standing by the door.

“What’s up, nigga? Where you been at? I was looking for you earlier. I thought you wasn’t coming,” the bouncer replied, dapping him off.

“Man, I had to get fresh first. You know damn well I wasn’t missing this party for anything,” Chance responded.

“Oh, that I do know,” dude said, looking to me.

“This is my cousin, Dontie. Dontie, this my nigga, Titus,” Chance said, introducing us.

“’Sup man?” I said, dapping him off.

  “What up?”

“All right, man, I’m about to head in. I’ll see you when you get in here,” Chance said, as dude removed the velvet rope to let us through.

  “Bet.”

Just like the outside, the inside of the club was packed. There were niggas and bitches all over. I now know why I see security all over in this bitch.

“Let’s head over to the bar,” Chance said to me over the music.

“Okay,” I said, following behind him. When we made it to the bar, it was crowded as well. We had to wait a minute before we were served.

“What you drinking?” Chance asked once it was our turn.

“Give me a Hennessy,” I replied, pulling out a twenty-dollar bill to give to him.

“Nah, I got this round. You just get the next,” he said, placing our orders.

Two minutes later, we had our drinks in our hand, scanning the floor. I wasn’t too much of a dancer, so the dance floor wasn’t my scene. I knew it was only going to be a matter of time before I retired to the nearest seat.

“You wanna walk over by the stage?” Chance whispered in my ear. I shrugged my shoulders, indicating that it didn’t matter as I followed his lead. I thought for sure that I was tripping when I noticed the chick I met in the mall earlier making her way through the crowd. Coincidentally, she and her friend were walking to the same place we were going to.

“You remember me?” I asked, whispering in her ear. She jumped before she turned around and looked at me.

  “Chance’s cousin, right?”

“The name is Dontie, but, yeah. I’m Chance’s cousin,” I said, getting close to her. “You got a man, ma?”

“Nah, I’m single. You got an old lady?” she asked, taking a sip from the drink she was nursing.

“Nah, ma, I’m single,” I told her. “What you drinking on?”

  “Alizé. Why?”

“Damn, why every time I ask you something, you answer and ask me why?”

“Because I want to know why you asking me all these questions.”

“Maybe because I wanted to buy you a drink.”

“Okay, well, go buy my drink then,” she said, looking at me with those gorgeous green eyes of hers. The way she was sucking on that straw made my dick jump.

“Don’t go nowhere. I’ll be right back,” I said before I disappeared to the bar.

  Chapter Eighteen

  Brinay

I was surprised to see Dontie at the club. Okay, I wasn’t that surprised, but I hadn’t banked on seeing him a second time in one day. I was even surprised when he came at me. I knew he wanted me, but he was bold. What he didn’t know was that I don’t date. It was very hard for me to trust a man. Shit, especially after the shit I went through with my sister and her fucked-up mother. When I told my father about it, he didn’t believe me. I haven’t fucked with a man since. Shit, in a sense, my father gave me my first actual heartbreak. Lord knows I didn’t want to experience that pain again, which is why I’ve never allowed a nigga into my fold.

It didn’t take long for Dontie to return with a few drinks on a tray for everyone. He handed Kourtney and me a drink before he passed the tray to Chance, who took his drink and set it on the table next to him.

“Let me find out you trying to get me drunk,” I said, taking a huge gulp of my drink.

“Nah, it ain’t like that. I’m just trying to make sure you have a good time. That’s all,” he said, smiling. I noticed he had a set of perfectly white teeth and a dimple on his cheek. Every time this man said one word, my heart skipped a beat.

“So where are you from?” I asked as we continued to sip and talk.

“I was born and raised in Miami,” he said catching me by surprise.

“Well, what are you doing in South Carolina then?”

“I’m here taking care of business,” he simply replied. “Besides, my family stays down here also.”

“Oh, okay,” I said, deciding not to pry any further. Whatever he did was his business, not mine.

“What about you?” he then asked. “Where are you from?”

“South Carolina,” I lied. I didn’t want to tell him where I was really from.

  “Okay. So are you single?”

  “Yes. What about you?
I know you got a woman or a few baby mamas down in Miami somewhere.”

“Nah, I’m single, and I don’t have any kids.”

“Oh,” I replied, paying more attention to my drink. I don’t know what it was, but this man had me wanting to give him a try.

I was sipping on my drink and laughing with my newfound friend, when Usher’s “Love in This Club” remix, featuring Beyoncé and Lil Wayne came on. I don’t know if it was the drink, the outfit, or the fact that basically everywhere I went, a nigga was grabbing on me, but before I realized what I was doing, I grabbed Dontie and headed straight to the dance floor. I turned around with my back toward his front, and we both began slow dancing to the music.

When Beyoncé’s part got ready to come on, I turned back around and looked him straight in his eyes. I didn’t know how to sing that well, but I was great at lip-synching. I was feeling good, so I really wasn’t caring about anything but having a good time right now.

  “I know you want it

  But I’m hesitating

  You must be crazy

I got a man, you got a lady.”

I was both surprised and shocked when he grabbed my hips and started lip-synching back to me.

  “I know, we here together

So this must be something special

’Cause, you could be anywhere you wanted

But you decided to be here with me.”

The way I was moving my hips all over Dontie would’ve made you think that he was my man. Some people were looking at us like really? while others had a look that said get a room. Fuck them, I thought. I was having fun, and if I wanted to fuck this nigga on this club dance floor, then I would. I knew them hoes were only hating, because they were two of the hottest-looking dudes in this club, and I had one of them. To make them even madder, I wrapped my arms around his neck, looked him in his eyes, and continued to sing to him.

“This right here is only for your eyes to see . . .”

  Dontie

I know y’all probably thought a nigga was being corny, but baby girl was something special. She had a nigga lip-synching to her all in the club, in the middle of the dance floor, with all these people around us. I was acting as if I was the fucking man or something. Shit, I didn’t care. All I wanted was to be able to get next to her. If I had to lip-synch, then I was going to. I played as if I didn’t notice the many stares from a few niggas and a couple of bitches. I knew they were mad, because they weren’t us right now.

The way she moved her hips to the beat of the song had a nigga wanting to take her home and fuck her like there was no tomorrow. I had to adjust my hard-on several times. One time she brushed up against it, and I knew she felt it, because she jumped. I know y’all probably thinking that I was ya typical nigga, but sex wasn’t the only thing that I wanted from her. She was special, and I really wanted to get to know her. Besides, she kind of had an attitude that I wanted desperately to tame. I could also tell that she was going to be a challenge, and I loved a good challenge.

We danced through a few more songs before we both got tired and retreated to where Chance and Kourtney were. It was hot, and my undershirt was starting to stick to my chest, and my throat was a bit dry.

“It’s about time you two came and sat down. I thought y’all were going to be out there all night.”

“Girl, please. I’m so tired and thirsty. I need a damn water for sure,” she said, fanning herself.

“Well, let’s head to the bar and get you one,” Kourtney said to her.

“All right, come on,” she said, getting up. “You fellas want anything?”

  “Nah, I’m straight,” I replied.

“Nah, I’m good,” Chance chimed in.

“Okay, cool,” she said before they made their way to the bar.

“So you feeling shorty, huh?” Chance asked.

“Man, I like her for sure,” I told him.

“Well, if you go at her and she lets you in, please be careful with her feelings. She’s a real delicate chick, fam.”

  “I hear ya, man.”

I was brought out of my thoughts by the sound of footsteps behind me. I turned to see Brinay’s father standing there looking at me.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but I find it real funny, you know. You’re always here more than my daughter, and this is her sister, not yours,” he said, causing my heart to skip a beat. I wanted so badly to tell him what was going on, but I wasn’t quite ready yet. “Is there something you need to tell me, son?”

“No, sir, I just think that since my wife can’t be here, then I should step up for her.”

“Are you sure that’s all that’s going on, son? I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” he said, walking toward me. It was in that moment I decided to tell him, but the sight of his wife walking up behind him made me opt not to.

“Hey, honey,” she said, kissing him. She then turned to me. She looked as if she was surprised to see me.

“Oh, hello, Dontie. Where’s Skylar?” she asked, looking around to see if she was somewhere in the room.

  “She’s at home, Mrs. Williams.”

“Well, what are you doing here if she’s at home?” she then asked, turning up her nose at me.

“He came here to check on his sister-in-law, Veronica,” her husband said before I could say anything.

“Oh,” she replied before everything got quiet.

“Well, I’m going to get going,” I said, heading to the door. “I’ll see you all later.”

“See ya later, son,” her father replied.

“Yeah, and can you tell Skylar that I’ll be around to check on her later,” her mother called after me. I didn’t even answer her. Something about that old broad just rubbed me the wrong way.

On my way to the nursery, my phone began ringing. Looking at it, I saw it was my lawyer calling me. I was praying like hell that he had some good news for me, because right now, I truly needed some.

“What’s up, Chris?” I asked, answering the phone.

  “Nothing much, where you at?”

“I’m over at the hospital. What you got for me?”

“I need you to meet with me. There’s some things I need to discuss with you, and I need to discuss them in person,” he replied.

“All right, I’ll come and see you when I leave here,” I said, just as I arrived at the nursery. My son wasn’t in his normal spot, which worried me.

“All right. Make sure you come and see me later.”

“I will, man,” I said before I hung up the phone.

When I walked into the nursery, I didn’t see anyone. I was about to turn around when I spotted one of the nurses that was here when I first came in to see my son.

“Excuse me, miss,” I said, trying to get her attention.

  “Yes, sir.”

“I’m looking for my son, Dontie Williams. Can you tell me where he is? I went to look for him, but he’s not in his normal spot.”

“Oh, he’s in the room. His aunt came to feed him today.”

“Okay. Thank you!” I replied. I guess Kourtney finally came here after all, I thought as I made my way to them. My phone started ringing the minute I made it to the door entrance. Seeing that it was Skylar calling, I placed the phone back in my pocket and proceeded to go see my son.

When I made it in the room, I thought for sure I saw a ghost. Sitting there, holding my son, while feeding him a bottle, was none other than his aunt. His aunt—my wife—Skylar. I damn near passed out.

“I should’ve known when you didn’t answer the phone earlier that you were here,” she said, looking up at me.

“What are you doing here and why are you holding your sister’s son?” I asked, babbling off at the mouth. I was trying hard to hold back what I really wanted to say.

“So now I can’t come see my only nephew now?” she said, as she continued to rock back and forth in the chair.

“I mean, you can, but with the way you
ve been acting, I don’t think you should,” I said, being honest.

“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” She bucked now, getting up. I was about to answer her, but a nurse came in, preventing me from doing so.

“Hello, Mr. Edmon. There’s a few things that I’d like to talk to you about,” she said, walking over to me.

“Okay,” I responded, waiting for her to continue. She looked from me to Sky, then back at me.

  “In private, please.”

“No, thank you. Whatever you have to say to him, you can say in front of me. In case you didn’t know, he’s my husband,” Sky said, flashing her ring finger.

“Okay, well, as you know, the baby is doing fine and most likely—” was all she got out before Chance and Kourtney walked through the door.

“Hey, Dontie,” Kourtney said, speaking to me. Her eyes then traveled to where Sky and baby Dontie were sitting in the rocking chair. She had a what the fuck? look on her face, before she looked back at me.

Most people really didn’t know Kourtney that much. Hell, I’m just learning about her. She was normally quiet, but when pushed or not in the mood, she could be a hothead. If anyone was to walk in the room and look at her now, they’d think she was being as calm as possible, but Chance and I knew better. From the minute she began tapping her hand on her leg, we knew she was about to have one of those moments if we didn’t hurry up and change her mood quickly. Since seeing Sky holding Brinay’s baby is what had her like this, that meant we had to get Brinay’s baby from Skylar’s arms, with a quickness. Chance and I exchanged looks with pleading eyes before he walked over to Skylar.

“Can I see the baby?” he asked her. She was about to put up a fuss, but he took him anyway. My eyes immediately shot to Kourtney. The minute she stopped tapping on her leg, I knew she was good, and we didn’t have to put up with her ranting and raving today.

“Is everything okay?” the nurse asked. She must have sensed that something was going to pop off too.
