“You would really give up your last name for me?”
“In a heartbeat.”
“And if I insisted we wait a year?”
“I’d grumble, I’d pout. I’d spend the entire damn year trying to talk you of it, but in the end, I’d respect your wishes.”
“Yes.”
He looked down at Amy cuddled up to his chest. “Yes?”
“Yes. I’ll marry you in five months, friends and family only. We live here in your house, as long as I’m the only woman to ever live there.”
His arms stole up around her, holding her closer. “You are.”
“No sex until after my divorce, but I will move in with you and sleep in your arms every night.”
“Naked,” he teased, his teeth nibbling her ear.
She sighed and gave herself over to his ministrations. “Naked. What do you think so far?”
“That I love you more now than I did five minutes ago.”
“One more thing.”
Ry was surprised she could still think, let alone speak. “Yes, love.”
“I’d be honored to become Mrs. Ry Stevens, if you wanted me too.”
He had her flat on her back at the news. “Why the change of heart?”
“You were willing to give it up. Besides you can’t call me your wife if you’re Mr. Allens, can you? You’d be my husband.”
“Either way, I’d be the luckiest man on earth.”
He leaned his head down for a kiss and was stopped short by her fingers. “If you ever, ever hurt me in any way, lie, steal or cheat on me, Ry. I swear I’ll—”
He kissed her fingertips. “Never, baby. Never.”
A soft knock at the door caught their attention. “Sorry for interrupting, but does this mean she said yes? If so, Schwartz owes me a hundred bucks.”
“How did you get in here? Amy had the only key and I know I locked the door behind me. Something else we need to discuss, love.”
“What? I left it open, sorry unlocked, so Hank could get in.”
“I had a hidey key. So did she say yes?”
Ry had no intentions of moving from his hard-won position. “A hidey key? Why didn’t you mention this hidey key when I asked earlier?”
“You never asked for my hidey key!”
“Okay, woman. Kiss me damn it, company or no company. I deserve it.”
He stifled a moan when she moved the hand he had pinned between their bodies. “Admit that I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself first.”
“I admit it,” he growled at her, desire clouding all rational thoughts.
“What do you think, Hank? Does he sound sincere to you?”
“Extremely.”
Ry hid his face in her cleavage; loving every minute of the torture she was putting him through.
“Are you saying that because you’re his partner or because you mean it?”
To Ry’s irritation Hank leaned up against the closed door. “I meant it; he’s been punished enough for one year.”
“I agree, and I never change my mind once I’ve given my word.”
He kissed her breathless. “Hank, want to be my best man? The wedding is in five months.”
“Sure I’d be honored. Does this mean the doc’s not leaving us?”
“Not ever! My soon to be Mrs. Stevens is staying put. Which reminds me, I need help moving her stuff into my house.”
“After the wedding?”
“As soon as the forensics team releases the crime scene.”
“That soon?”
“I may have to wait to claim my wife, but she gets her wish to shack up starting tonight.” Ry wanted to growl a warning to get out when Hank pushed away from the door and started walking towards them.
“Then let me be the first to give you a wedding present.”
Ry mumbled incoherently under his breath and got up, offering Amy his hand to help her stand. “What is it?”
“Open it, Doc, and you can stop glaring at me like that, partner. You’ll like this gift.”
“It’s… it’s… Ry, it’s my divorce papers. Signed and sealed. I’m officially divorced.”
Ry took the papers from her shaking hands before she could drop them.
“Marcus used his connections to rush our divorce through. How? When did he find the time?”
“He called in a few favors and used the fax machine down at the station. He wants you to be happy. Even if that means handing you over to this lug.”
Ry glared at him, he was nervous. Amy hadn’t said one word about whether or not she was happy about this.
“I don’t understand, why now?”
“It took him five minutes to figure out that Ry wasn’t going anywhere, especially after his little speech about being in love with you and never letting you go again. Okay. Maybe finding Ry naked in your bed had a little something to do with it.”
A slow predatory grin started to creep across his features as the pieces fell into place. “Wait let me get this straight. You aren’t married anymore?”
“No I’m not.”
“So then we can move up the wedding!”
“Ry Stevens we agreed on five months and we are standing firm at five months.”
Her angry stomp made her breasts jiggle causing his already exited member to tighten in his pants. “You’re not married anymore?”
“No! Why do you keep asking me that?”
He approached her, blatant desire evident in every step. “Just verifying my facts, doctor. So if I understand our agreement correctly, we can have sex.”
“Ry!”
“Hey, the five month agreement isn’t the only thing standing firm in this room. You said and I quote, ‘No sex until after my divorce,’ end quote.” The blush that crept up her neck and invaded her cheeks, made him want to rip her clothes off right there and then. He would have too if Hank hadn’t been in the room.
“I know what I said. You didn’t have to repeat it in front of Hank.”
“Hank, I apologize for embarrassing you by announcing that I get to bed my very beautiful, and completely alluring fiancée.”
Amy laughed at him, taking a step back to put some distance between them. “You’re hopeless.”
“Hopelessly in love. Now let’s go home.”
“I need clothes.”
“Not for what I have in mind you don’t. See you at the station on Monday, Hank. I’m taking the rest of the week off.”
Ry cornered her up against a wall and kissed her until she stopped fighting him, then threw her over his shoulder causing her to giggle uncontrollably as she waved goodbye to Hank.
The End
A little bit about the author:
When I was born, my parents christened me Aline de Chevigny. Maybe they knew then, what I
’m just now figuring out. I was born to be a romance author! I am Canadian and a Chemical Engineering Technologist who decided one day to try the impossible. Or so I thought, LOL, the year I turned 30, I moved far away from all my family and friends to start a new job.
I was so bored and lonely that I picked up my pen and started writing the stories floating around in my head down on paper. I never dreamed they'd be published, but to my surprise and delight my publisher liked it. My family has been extremely supportive of my goal and they continue encouraging me to sub my works.
Since that day I
’ve written and sold 17 books, from Novella to Novel length and in various romance genres. This being my latest Thriller… You can find blurbs and excerpts of my all my stories at www.alinedechevigny.com along with some free reads, contests and in progress works.
Thank you for being a fan and supporting me in my goal to entertain the world the only way I know how.
Yours truly, Aline de Chevigny
