“But she must have a nice boyfriend, right?” he asked, wishing he’d just kept his mouth shut after she’d asked her question.

“Nah, she never goes on any dates. Not like my friend’s mom.”

Blake stayed silent, hoping he wasn’t about to get a full-on grilling from the kid. He should have just left it at answering her question without pushing her for information, because now she’d probably go tell her mom what he’d asked.

“Let’s make them go over here,” Chloe said. “Come on.”

Blake did as he was told, hoping the subject was over. But the problem with kids was that you just never knew when they were going to come out with a question like that without a second of warning. One thing he was pleased about was the lack of men in Jasmine’s life, if her daughter was to be believed. Jasmine was beautiful, sweet and nice company to have around, which meant that if he had the chance… what?

Blake smiled at Chloe when she made them swap dolls. He didn’t know what he was thinking, but right now, he at least knew what he wanted, and that was Jasmine.

No opportunity missed. His dad might have said it in relation to ranching, but right now, Blake wanted to put it into practice where his gorgeous houseguest was concerned. It had been a long time since he’d had some fun, had spent every waking hour since he’d moved here focusing on the ranch, working, so maybe this was a sign that he needed to work less and play more. For the holidays, anyway.
