He patted the horse and prepared to mount. “Stand still, Farran. There’s a good lad.”
As he clambered onto the horse’s back, he realised that horses weren’t frightening at all when you knew how to talk to them.
Talk to them? By Frigg!
That was Elgiva’s “certain gift!” He had forgotten all about it. It seemed as natural now as breathing. He would have to learn how to hide it. The wilthkin wouldn’t understand.
He turned to Grimalkin. “Let’s go.”
He set off in the direction of home. His heart was lighter than he had expected, and spring was blossoming all around him with hope and hidden potential. And the hope was possible, the future was possible, because he had mastered the past. By Frigg, it had all been a great adventure.
Or perhaps the adventure was just beginning.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born in Stafford in the UK, Carol was raised in Crewe, Cheshire, which she thinks of as her home town. Interested in reading and writing at an early age, Carol pursued her passions at Nottingham University and was awarded an honours degree in English Language and Literature. However, fated to lose everything and start again several times, it is only in later life that she has realised her dream of becoming a published author. Now she lives deep in the Cambridgeshire countryside with her cockatiel Sparky and uses words to weave tales like tapestries that she hopes will adorn the walls of your imagination. Her watchword is perseverance.
