"After what happened in Willow Glen, I just didn't want to involve you."

"I'll always want to help you. No matter the trouble you're in."

"What I can't believe is that this was all over jealousy and hatred. That's all this was. I wanted to build my fiancée the best house in the whole damn county, and he wanted to stop me."

"Some idiot losers just think it's their right to take what others can rightfully afford. Fitzhugh, I know now that's why you were forced to borrow money from me."

  "You figured it out, huh?"

"He was blackmailing you, wasn’t he?"

"He said he'd hurt my fiancée if I didn't give him every cent I had in the bank. So I did it, and sent my wife-to-be back home to Ohio."

"I'm just glad you're safe, Uncle Fitzhugh." Millie gave her uncle a peck on the cheek. "You were always such a decent man. You still are. You are going to need help running your store."

"Yep, I need to get back on my feet financially. No doubt about that."

"Is there anyway you would hire me on? I don't know much about selling alcohol, but I could learn. I'm a hard worker."

Leo stepped forward, his eyes dark and brooding. As if the question he was about to ask mattered. "Does this mean you want to stay in Willow Glen? I'd figure after all this, you might want to go back to civilized society."

"I've grown fond of a renegade undercover United States Marshal. So maybe I'd like to stay."

  "Is that so?"

"Yes, not that I'd want to admit it." She smiled mischievously. Full of trouble. "Besides, maybe I've decided I rather like living in the untamed West."

  "You do?"

"Yes. I've become accustomed to living a life of crime with my notorious outlaw husband."

  They laughed together.

  Epilogue

One week later, in their room above the liquor store.

Leo's kiss was hot on her mouth. She was warm everywhere.

He scooped her up in his arms and laid her across the mattress. She surrendered to him completely, closing her eyes and wrapping her arms around his neck.

His kiss was sweet but not enough.

Everywhere he touched her, she burned. The more he touched her, the more she wanted him.

She ran her hands across his chest, down his abdomen and lower. Desire coiled tight in her belly.

"I love you, Millie," he said.

"I love you back. But not very much," she teased.

They laughed as he moved between her thighs and fit his hot length inside her.

Oh, what joy. She gave herself up to the heat and the passion. They moved together until there was only the rippling squeeze of their mutual release.

When they were spent, Leo held her in his arms. A tender moment.

He kissed the tip of her nose. "Now this is something I'm getting very used to."

  "Me, too." She sighed.

"I think I'd like to stay here with you, Millie. I'm going to see if I can get hired on as a deputy in this town. When the new sheriff arrives. He should be arriving here any minute."

"Are you sure you're ready to take on the outlaw gang still terrorizing Willow Glen?"

"Hell, yes I am. I can't wait to see how this is going to turn out." He pulled her back into his arms and fit their bodies together.

Millie held on tight for the ride. She had the best lawman in all of Montana Territory.

  And he was hers.

  Forever.
