She left the room, locking the door behind her before heading through to where the others were.
Gus handed her a beer as she entered.
“No luck?” he asked.
Alex shook her head. “I didn’t expect there to be. And I don’t think I would have trusted them even if they had sided with us. But for now, let’s just celebrate this one victory.”
“To there being others,” Gus said as he raised his glass.
“To there being others,” Alex repeated with a smile as their bottles clinked together, and for the first time since losing Freya, Alex began to feel something akin to hope.
