I soon later recovered with my gun pointed out as I looked around for any survivors from the explosion. Everybody ended up being bruised up pretty bad but everyone was alive. The robots that came with Tyler were toasted but he had vanished. Nowhere to be seen but at least Joe was still with us.
“Is everybody ok?” Mitch asked around.
“Yeah, I think we’re all ok,” I responded. “Tyler is gone though.”
As soon as the smoke cleared a group of soldiers stormed the room with their machine guns drawn. They were fully equipped with camo green armor and helmets. They must have been the ones that had thrown the grenade.
“Room secured!” one of the soldiers yelled as he made his way through the room.
The last one of the soldiers entered the room and made his way towards us. This one looked like he was the leader.
“Are you all ok?” the man asked us as he helped us up.
“Yeah, thanks,” I replied. “Next time watch where you throw the grenade.”
“Sorry,” the man responded. “We saw the Cerberus robots and had to take the risk to rescue you guys. It ended up paying off at least.”
“Perfect timing too,” Kevin said. “Who are you guys?”
“My name is Frank,” the man replied. “And we are the New York Resistance.”

The Battle of New York
We had escaped the claws of death once again but this time we were saved by the one and only New York Resistance. What a pleasure of good sights I must say. The fact that we know there are now more of us fighting Cerberus than just us is great news. We don’t really get good news anymore if you know what I mean.
Frank informed me they are all that’s left of New York. He told me they had a base not too far from New York City but it was secret and safe. He noticed when we had turned the power back on and quickly gathered a group of soldiers to fly to the source with his helicopters that were now running and operational because of us.
“We need to get you all out of here,” Frank informed us. “And we need to do it fast.”
“Well, we have an RV parked right outside the city,” I began to explain.
“No good,” he told me. “There’s a massive Cerberus force of drones, robots, and soldiers headed this way. They will be here soon. There’s not enough time.”
“Then we stay and fight,” Sarah suggested.
“No,” Frank said. “You’re with the only person who will be able to rebuild this country into a great nation once again. The President of the United States.”
“Don’t worry about me,” Jill protested. “I can carry my own weight.”
“Too risky,” Frank told us. “We need to ensure you’re alive after all this.”
“Then what do we do?” I asked Frank.
“I have a plan,” he began to explain. “I have a set of helicopters landed just a block away from us. I’ll have them take you to our base. Cerberus won’t find you there.
There was the sound of a big explosion coming from outside as the ground began to vibrate in result.
“It looks like they are already here,” Frank said. “My men will fight them off but you guys need to get out of the city.”
“Thank you, Frank,” I told him.
“Don’t thank me,” he responded. “Thank the men who are putting up their lives for you all right now.”
With that being said we all got our guns out and ready as we made our way back upstairs towards the front entrance of the building.
We walked out of the building and I was immediately caught off guard and overwhelmed by what I was seeing. Huge lines of gun fire were being exchanged from both sides of the battlefield. Drones and planes were chasing and shooting each other in the city’s sky. Tanks from both sides could be heard throughout the city as they exchanged cannon blasts to each other. Yelling and screaming also echoed throughout the city as soldiers from both sides dropping dead quite frequently. Nothing but death and suffering could be seen in New York City today.
“Let’s get moving!” Frank yelled as he ushered us through the streets.
We all began to run quickly behind Frank as we fired off some bullets when we would run into some soldiers or robots. The planes were keeping the drones quite busy and away from us for now but for how long could they keep it up?
The trail of a rocket could be heard as it caught up to us and exploded right in front us and only missing by a few feet. That was too close.
“We need to keep moving!” Frank yelled at us. “Don’t look behind you. Keep moving forward!”
We kept running through the streets but had to make a quick dash for the ground as a drone flew right above us with top speed while almost knocking our heads off. It made its way above the tall New York buildings and joined the battle in the air soon later. We all looked at each other in fear but got up from the ground and continued towards our destination.
“Are you alright McKenna!?” I asked her over the loud battle.
“Of course not!” she yelled back at me. “I’m in a freaking war right now!”
“We’ll get through this!” I encouraged her. “Don’t worry!”
“Hurry up guys!” Joe yelled back towards us. “Like you said. No one gets left behind today.”
This made me smile. I now knew that I at least had some sort of impact on someone today.
“Three centaurs on your right,” Lee informed us as he began firing his gun with everyone else.
I aimed my gun towards the robots’ heads like I was told and pulled the trigger. With a couple of hits, the bullets managed to pierce their metal and they fell to the floor.
“Good job guys!” Frank yelled back at us. “We’re almost there. Hold on for about five more minutes!”
“We’ll try!” I yelled back at him.
We continued to make our way through the battlefield and I could soon hear the running helicopters in the distance.
“We must be close!” I yelled. “I can hear them!”
Little did I know what was to come. Everything was about to change.
We were within a few feet of the helicopters but then disaster took place. A loud gunshot sound appeared in the air from a nearby building. The noise came from a sniper rifle that was stationed on top of a building’s roof. I felt the pain from the noise as if it hit me but it didn’t.
I looked over to my side and saw the sniper bullet make contact with Kevin’s shoulder and he quickly fell to the ground unconscious.
“SNIPER!” Mitch yelled as everyone hit the ground for cover.
I quickly looked behind me towards the direction from which the bullet came from. I saw a man dressed in all black as he ran across the building top. I ran over and quickly grabbed Kevin’s assault rifle and began firing towards the building. The sniper was too quick though and dogged all my bullets. He soon disappeared into the building and I missed my last shot.
I made my way back towards Kevin as everyone surrounded him with Jill on top of him.
“KEVIN!” Jill yelled as she began to sob with tears streaming out from her eyes. “Don’t leave me!”
I have to say that this made me a bit emotional as I too began to let tears run down my face alongside everybody else.
Frank quickly rushed over to Kevin’s unconscious body and felt his neck for a pulse.
“I still got a pulse,” Frank told us. “Everyone help me get him to the chopper. Hurry!”
We all did what we were told to do and helped Frank lift Kevin into the helicopter.
“There’s no going back,” Frank told us. “I’m going with you guys. We’ll get Kevin to the base and my people might be able to save him.”
We were about to take off but to our luck, more disaster struck. Two Cerberus robots appeared in front of the helicopter and shot in the helicopter’s
cockpit and killed the pilot instantly.
“Damn it!” Frank yelled as he fired at the robots alongside everybody else. “Go to hell Cerberus!”
The robots were
soon overwhelmed by our combined gunfire and fell to the ground.
“What do we do now?” I asked.
“I don’t know,” Frank replied. “Does anyone by chance know how to fly a helicopter?”
We all looked at each other to see if anyone would step forward and eventually someone would. And that person was Joe.
“I do,” Joe spoke. “I’ll get us out of here.”
Joe then made his way to the helicopter’s cockpit and moved the pilot’s dead body to the passenger seat. He soon after put on a pilot’s helmet with the radio and began pressing some buttons on the front panel.
“Engines running," Joe spoke through the helmet. “Prepare for takeoff.”
“Hurry Joe!” Jill yelled towards him. “Get us out of here!”
Joe began to pull on the helicopter’s throttle and the chopper began to lift up from the ground and above New York City’s skyscrapers.
Once we were high enough we began to move forward and then picked up some speed.
“Get us out of the city,” Frank yelled. “I’ll tell you where the base is once we are clear.”
We were not clear from the battle yet.
“Bogies on your six!” Mitch yelled up to Joe as he looked behind us.
I looked behind us and saw two drones approaching our helicopter and fast. Joe picked up the helicopter’s speed even more and once again we were flying through the air with tremendous speed.
“MISSILE LOCK!” Mitch yelled as the helicopter’s controls began to blare off alarms signalling a missile was locked onto our vehicle.
“Deploying flares,” Joe responded as he switched a flip on the top control panel.
A trail of flares appeared behind us and blocked the incoming missile from hitting us.
“Missile down,” Mitch informed Joe.
Joe began to swerve the helicopter back and forth between buildings but could not lose the two drones that were hot on our trail. I began to fire my gun at the drones but was getting nowhere close to hitting them.
“This should help,” Frank said as he pulled out a giant missile launcher from the back of the helicopter.
Frank leaned out the side of the chopper and aimed towards the drones.
“Well here goes nothing,” he said as he launched the missile towards one of the drones.
As he launched the missile he was caught off guard with the tremendous back kick the launcher gave off and we caught him just in time before he fell out of the helicopter. To our amazing luck, Frank’s missile made direct contact with one of the drones and it exploded on impact. In addition, the debris that exploded from the drone hit the other drone causing it too to lose control as it crashed on top of one of the nearby buildings.
We were now finally clear.
Frank told Joe the location of the base and we soon later landed at the location outside the city. A group of doctors and nurses waited for us and took Kevin into one of their operating rooms the moment we landed. We all waited outside the room for some answers and if Kevin was going to be ok.
Hours later a doctor finally emerged from the room to tell us the news.
“Kevin has lost a lot of blood,” the doctor began to explain. “But he’s going to be just fine. He’s extremely lucky.”
“Thank you so much!” Jill squealed in relief as she went over to hug the doctor.
“It’s going to be a while until he wakes up,” the doctor informed us. “But after a lot of rest, he’ll be up and walking again.”
Now that was so relieving. Some good news finally for us at last after all that chaos.
I looked around at everyone and began to thank God how lucky I was to have all these amazing friends and that they were all still alive with me at this moment.
“Is everything ok?” McKenna asked me as she came up to me. Soon later everyone else would join.
“Yeah,” I smiled. “I’m just extremely thankful we all got out of there alive. We put up one hell of a fight.”
“We sure did,” Nicole commented.
“Even though we got pretty much destroyed,” Bekah stated. “I bet Cerberus hadn’t expected a good fight like that.”
“You’re right,” Sarah said. “But this is just the beginning.”
“So, what do we do now?” I asked as I looked over towards Jill.
Jill looked down and began thinking but soon later lifted her head up strong and determined.
“We got the power back on,” Jill spoke. “We accomplished our mission. We all got out of there alive. We have given those hope now that had none. The New Revolution has now started.”
“Now we raise up an army,” I began to speak. “And take the fight to them!”
“Agreed,” Jill replied. “We may have lost the battle but the war has just begun.”
Watch out Cerberus because now we are coming for you.
