“You will never have anything to be jealous about from me, darling. Never.”

They rolled on into the climbing sun, passing the swamps and long bridges that dot Louisiana highways, paying scant attention to the terrible condition of I10.

They stayed at the La Meridien Hotel on the edge of the French Quarter. During the daytime they did the touristy things such as Jackson Square, Central Market, the Zoo and the aquarium. They even did a guided tour of the plantations.

At night, only venturing occasionally into the night life provided by the French Quarter, they enjoyed exploring each other, each learning the things that delighted the other.

The time came when they decided it was time to head back to Dime Box, Kyle and Gunner. There were not many periods of silence on the trip. No subject was untouchable. Chuck said he’d like to adopt Kyle if Lisa didn’t mind, but if she minded, it would make no difference in their relationship.

They were very comfortable with each other and discussed their future together and the life awaiting them at Fort Campbell.

As they were driving through Arkansas, it was Lisa who observed, “The sun has been out every day of our marriage. We are blessed, aren’t we?”

  “We truly are darling.”

“Chuck, I want to have your baby. Would you mind if I went off the pill?”

“Would I mind? Would I mind if you made me a dad? I think that would be the second best thing that ever happened to me. I didn’t think it was meant to be. I would love to have a Charles Carson, the third running around our house.”

“What if she turns out to be another Lisa?”

“That would be wonderful too. You just know she would turn out to be a beautiful, vivacious, and smart young woman.”

In just over a year, the Fort Campbell community newspaper announced the birth of Charles Carson III to Major and Mrs Charles “Chuck” Carson.

He would be called Charley Three or Trey.

Eighteen months after this, another article in the paper announced the arrival of 6 pound 5 ounce Lisa Carson to the well and truly blessed Family Carson. Mother and daughter are well.

Little Miss Carson will be the guest of honor at a reception at the family on-Post residence.
