She looks at me defeated. “I’m not going to talk you out of this, am I?”
I sadly shake my head. “I’ll still see you all. I made a deal with Lucifer. I can still come back here and fight and train with you all.”
She nods tears threatening. “I will find a way to get you back. We all will.” There is real determination in her voice.
“I’m sorry I’m leaving just when you got here. Please go and see Mother. Lorcen will show you how you can get there.” She bobs her head in agreement. “I need you to look after him for me.”
She looks at me sadly. “It will kill him Ebony. I haven’t been around you two long but that guy, he loves you so much.”
A tear escapes down my face and I wipe it away. “I know. That is why I need you to look after him, you and Noah. Don’t let him try anything stupid okay?”
“I’ll try my best.” She replies giving me a weak smile. She throws herself at me and squeezes me tightly. “I’ll move heaven and earth to get you back where you belong sister.”
We fall collapse into bed. Both of us are a tad tipsy and giddy. The party was a huge success. Everybody had a great time. It was late, about one in the morning.
Lorcen grabs my waist and rolls me over so he’s lying on top of me, between my legs.
“You throw a good party wifey.” His green eyes twinkle with amusement.
“I do don’t I.” I grin. “You hit the jackpot with me I hope you know.”
He raises his brows. “May I remind you that you are mated to a fae prince who also happens to be one of the best fae warriors around, star quarterback and voted homecoming king.”
I fake a yawn and Lorcen’s hands snake under my top and he tickles my bare tummy.
“Stop, ah stop, please.” I plead in-between giggles. He stops and rolls me over so am sitting on top of him. “I have a gift for you.” I announce shyly.
Lorcen looks at me surprised. “You do?”
I nod smiling and climb off him and reach into my bedside draw, pulling out a small blue box.
I sit back down on the bed and he sits beside me and I place the box in his hand.
Smiling at me he opens it and peers inside and pulls out a silver dog tag necklace. He holds it up.
“I love it Ebs.” He leans forward grinning and plants a kiss on my lips.
I take it off him and turn it over showing him the back.
I’d choose you in a hundred lifetimes.
EW.
He looks back at me his eyes full of emotion and love. Who knew that this love would sweep me off my feet and root itself so deep in my heart, that it felt like he had always been there.
“I love you Ebony Wilde.” He says softly before his forehead resting against mine and then we lose ourselves in each other. Tonight, I would savour every kiss, every touch and every loving glance. Tonight, I would say goodbye to the very essence of my existence.
Hours later I lie there just watching him sleep. My time has run out. I had to believe that some way somehow we would find our way back to each other. I slip quietly from his arms and tiptoe to the bathroom and change into jeans and a jumper. I pull out the letters hidden in my drawers and leave Lorcen’s propped up on his bedside table with the others for my family beside it.
“Lucifer.” I whisper quietly. I walk to the window and he stands there outside our house, shrouded in darkness, waiting for me.
I must leave my heart here tonight and venture onto a path of darkness and uncertainty, to take my place besides the devil’s son. I wasn’t sure my soul would survive this. My heart beats only for him. There is no one else for me. He is it, he’s my sanctuary, my home, my reason for being and without him I would be a soul without purpose. This is a sacrifice I must make. I would give up everything to keep him and the ones I loved safe. I would have to live my life without him for now but to know that his heart continues to beat will make it worthwhile. I lean over him and kiss him ever so softly on the lips and then I walk away. I leave my heart behind with him in that bed. Tears fall silently down my face as I walk away from my love and follow the devil into the gates of hell.
