“I hope so, for your sake and theirs. At any rate, I’m here to help if you need me.”

“Thank you, Kayla said, hugging him.

“What was that for?” he asked with a smile.

“It’s for being so understanding and honest,” she replied.

“Hey, Kayla, can I see you for a minute?” Shane asked, pulling her away from the chief quickly.

“He knows about us,” Kayla told him.

“How does he know?” Shane asked.

“I certainly didn’t tell him,” she replied, furrowing her brow. “He’s a smart man—quite perceptive. I guess we were too transparent with our feelings.”

“Uh, huh, can you come with me? I need to make a run to the local market. We need more drink.”

“Why isn’t Dakota going with you?” she asked, looking around for him.

“Oh, DJ’s a little busy right now, and he can’t—”

“Who is that woman?” Kayla asked.

  “What woman?” Shane questioned.

She could feel her temperature rising by the second. She saw Dakota leaning against the ladder truck, the very pretty brunette woman was whispering in his ear and stroking his arm quite suggestively. A second later, her hand was running up his thigh.

Kayla looked Shane dead in his eyes and spoke in a very calm voice. “I’m only going to ask you this once again. Who is that woman with her hands all over Dakota?”

“She’s Marcie Stokes, our old girlfriend. You need to calm down, Kayla. It’s not what you think,” Shane tried to explain.

“Oh, but I think it is. It’s exactly what it looks like.” A single tear dropped to her cheek. “I cannot believe I fell for this bullshit. I gave you both my heart. Oh, God, the things I let you do to me.”

“Kayla, just come with me. If you give me a chance to—”

“Go to hell, Shane McIntyre, and take that no good, backstabbing Dakota Jennings, with you!” she yelled, snatching her hand from him, running to her car.

Shane ran after her and tried to stop her from leaving. She was so pissed off at him and Dakota he decided he had better back off. As she pulled away, he ran back inside the station. He saw Dakota push Marcie’s hand away.

“Ah, come on, Dakota, don’t play so hard to get. Besides, you know I love it when you do that. What else could you possibly want from me? I’ve already said I made a terrible mistake. Can’t you find it in that big, beautiful heart of yours to forgive me?” Marcie asked.

Purposely ignoring her, Shane turned his attention to Dakota. “Hey, you need to put this aside for a second. I’ve got something really important to clue you in on. We’ve got to talk in private.”

Marcie flipped her hair to her back. She was becoming more than a bit annoyed. She glared at Shane with a look of anger in her eyes. “Well, you don’t have to be so rude. Can’t you see we’re in the middle of something here?”

Now, it was Shane’s turn. “What in the hell are you talking about? You know something, Marcie? You are a real piece of work. What would possess you to come here?”

Suddenly, all traces of her anger disappeared, and she became playful again. “I was just feeling a little lonely. Is there anything wrong with me wanting to see the two men I care for the most in the entire world? It’s been too long since we’ve all been together. Do you know what I mean?”

“Listen, because I’m only going to tell you this one time. I don’t want to see you ever again, get it? Shane doesn’t want to see you either. You had your chance. You’re incapable of love, Marcie. You destroy every good thing in your life. You destroyed us. Get the hell out of here, and don’t ever come back,” Dakota told her.

“Is that the way you feel, too, Shane? Do you always let him speak for you?” she asked, flipping her dark-brown hair to her back.

“Almost never, but when it comes to a skank like you, yeah, I do,” Shane replied.

“To hell with you both, have a nice life,” Marcie told them, walking out of the station.

“That’s one crazy bitch,” Dakota said, shaking his head.

“DJ, man, Kayla saw you with Marcie.”

“So what? That was nothing,” he replied.

“Yeah, I know, but she didn’t. She jumped in her car and drove off.”

Instantly, Dakota became concerned. “Why didn’t you stop her?”

“You don’t think I tried? She was real upset, man. She even cried. She didn’t know you were telling Marcie to leave. She didn’t understand,” Shane said.

“How many times do we have to prove to her that we love her?” Dakota asked.

“I don’t know, but she’s so angry right now. If that article comes out trashing this station, we’ll know why,” Shane answered.

“Stockton will have our heads,” Dakota commented.

“Ah, huh, you’ve got that right,” Shane agreed. “We’ve got to find her.”

Suddenly the station’s alarm rang out.

“What now?” Dakota asked, sounding irritated.

“All right, let’s move out!” one of the other firefighters shouted.

“Don’t worry, man. We’ll deal with this later,” Dakota told Shane.

Donning their uniforms, the two men joined their crew and rolled out onto Regency Boulevard. They were headed to the scene of a three-vehicle accident. One of the cars was reportedly in flames.

“I just tried calling Kayla. She’s not picking up,” Shane said.

“As soon as we get this under control, we’ll track her down. We’ve got to straighten this out,” Dakota replied.

Shane shook his head slowly. “I can’t believe this is happening, man. After everything that we’ve been through with Kayla, to have things go down the way they did. Why did she have to show up here?”

“That’s Marcie for you. She was always way too self-absorbed. If memory serves me correctly, it was one of the main reasons she had to go, am I right?” Dakota asked.

“You know it, and as soon as we track down Kayla, we’ve got to let her know it as well,” Shane told him.

Arriving at the scene of the accident, both Dakota and Shane were thrust into a state of pure panic. The first vehicle was a taxi engulfed in flames. The driver and his passenger were being attended to by the EMTs. The second car had smashed into the street light on the opposite side of the street. The owner of the vehicle was waving at them with a sense of extreme urgency. The third car, a light-blue Prius, was pinned between the second car and the sturdy street light. The passenger was unconscious and bleeding from the left temple. It was Kayla.

Jumping from the truck, Shane and Dakota grabbed the Jaws of Life and, along with several other firemen, worked frantically to pry open the wrecked car to free her.

“Kayla…Kayla, can you hear me!” Dakota shouted.

One of the firemen assisting them said, “She’s not responding. I hope she’s not—”

“Shut the fuck up!” Shane yelled. “She’s not dead. Oh, God, she can’t be.”

“She’s not dead, but she could be hurt real bad. We’ve got to get her out!” Dakota hollered. Calming down a bit, he said, “We’ll get to her in time, Shane. We’ve got to free her.”

Without being able to open either door, the firemen cut into the passenger side of the car and pried it open. Dakota and Shane reached inside and unhooked the seatbelt, pulling Kayla to safety while the other members of the team worked to put out the vehicle fire.

“Step back,” one to EMTs told them. After he administered CPR to Kayla, she finally came around.

Coughing, trying to catch her breath, she asked, “What happened? Where am I?”

“You crashed your car. We need to get you to the hospital,” Dakota said. “You were upset when you left the station. I’m sorry, Kayla. I love you.”

“I love you, too,” Shane said just before she was placed inside the ambulance and sped away.

Chief Stockton pulled up and stepped out of his car. He stopped to
speak with a couple of policemen on the scene and then one of the paramedics. Afterward, he quickly approached Dakota and Shane, looking very angry.

“Chief, listen. Kayla is OK, she’s being taken to Atlanta Memorial,” Shane explained.

“First we have to deal with that wacko chick, Marcie Stokes, and now this? That girl could have lost her life. If anything and I do mean anything, happens to Kayla, I am holding you both responsible.”

“Leave Shane out of this, Chief, it’s my fault. Marcie showed up at the station, trying to worm her way back into our lives. Shane tried to divert Kayla’s attention away from the firehouse, but she saw me talking to Marcie. Kayla misread the situation and stormed off angry.”

“Well, what in the hell did you expect her to do?” Lowering his voice, the chief continued, “You two have decided to enter into yet another ménage relationship. This time, it’s different, isn’t it? You both really care for Kayla, and I know she loves you.”

“How do you know?” Dakota asked.

“Again, I wasn’t born yesterday. It’s as plain as the nose on your face. I make it a point not to interfere in the private lives of my team, but I swear you two are going to fix this immediately. If you don’t do right by her, I’ll—”

“We love her, Chief. If anything happens to her, it’ll kill us,” Shane said.

“We have to be by her side,” Dakota said.

“Good, now get the hell outta here. Make sure she’s OK,” Stockton told them. “I’m praying for her.”

“Thanks, Chief. Let’s go, DJ,” Shane said.

When Dakota and Shane arrived at the hospital, they ran to the main desk where one of the nurses was working busily at a computer.

“We’re here to see Kayla Somers. She was brought in about forty-five minutes ago. Do you know where she’s been taken?” Dakota asked.

“She’s down the hall in the last room on the right,” the nurse replied.

Walking down the hall, they saw another nurse quickly enter Kayla’s room. When they stepped inside, they saw the woman turning down the bed.

Staring at the empty bed, suddenly, Shane began to feel sick. Dakota felt a lump forming in his throat. Feeling dizzy, he looked down to the floor. The nurse turned her attention to them. She had a serious look on her face.

“Can I help you two with something?” she inquired.

“The woman who was in this room, what…what happened to her?” Shane asked.

  “Where is she?” Dakota questioned.

Before she could answer, they heard a voice call out to them from the hall. “It’s about time you two showed up.”

Turning around, they saw Kayla smiling at them. She had a bruise on her arm and four stitches at her hairline. She was in a wheelchair, escorted by a female orderly.

“Oh my God, baby, are you all right?” Shane asked.

“Ms. Somers is fine,” the orderly answered. “She was incredibly lucky. She’ll need to rest for a couple of days, but she’s a strong young woman. She’ll be as good as new in no time.”

Kneeling next to the chair, Dakota said, “I am so very sorry, Kayla. What you saw was me telling Marcie to get lost. It was all a big misunderstanding.”

“It was a dumb move on my part. I’ll never do anything like that again,” Kayla said, stroking the side of his face, kissing his cheek.

“I’m so happy you’re OK,” Shane said, kneeling on the opposite side of the chair. “If anything had happened to you, it would have killed us.”

Kissing him briefly, Kayla said, “I love you both so much.”

“And we love you, baby,” Dakota said.

Looking at the scene playing out in front of her, the orderly said, “It’s true what they say. Some girls really do have all the luck. Let’s get you out of here. The three of you seem to have a lot of catching up to do.”

She was right. They did have a lot to catch up on, and when they got home, that’s exactly what they did.

  Chapter Ten

“You scared the hell out of us, Kayla. I can’t remember when I’ve felt so vulnerable, so out of control,” Dakota said, sitting on the side of his California King-size bed.

“I wanted to be with you no matter where that may have been,” Shane explained, grinding his teeth so hard his cheek pulsated.

“When I saw you with that woman, I wanted to die from humiliation. It felt like someone had kicked me in the stomach and ripped my guts out.”

Dakota slowly stroked her shiny hair. A single tear fell to his cheek. “Why can’t you believe me when I tell you that I want you and only you, Kayla? I’ve loved you from the moment you walked into my life.”

“I do believe you, Dakota, but it angered me so to see you with Marcie. The way she touched you made me doubt myself. It made me doubt your love for me,” she said, lowering her head in shame.

“Our bond is unshakeable, Kayla. I’m so sorry I made you feel that way. It will never happen again. Shane and I would give up everything we have to keep you. You’re our love, our life.”

“We’ll do anything within our power to ensure your happiness,” Shane added.

Smiling at them both mischievously, Kayla reached out for Shane to lie next to her. When he did, she turned to Dakota and said, “If I promise to never again doubt your actions and motives, will you do me one huge favor?”

“I’ll do anything you ask me to do,” he replied.

“Good. Take off all your clothes. You absolutely look your best without them,” she said. “I want you naked, too, Shane. If you really want me to be happy, you’ll service me right now.”

“Listen, Kayla, you have got to rest. We don’t want to hurt you,” Dakota explained.

“You let me worry about that. Right now, I want you both stripped bare. If you really want me to get well, you won’t deny me my medicine.”

Shane and Dakota stared at each other for a few seconds as if they were telepathically communicating. In reality, they wanted each other’s confirmation that what they were about to do was in Kayla’s best interest. In the end, they decided that it indeed was.

“If you really want us to make love to you, get ready for the fuck of a lifetime,” Dakota told her.

Shane quickly disrobed, displaying his magnificent physique to her. Dakota took his time, slowly removing every stitch of clothing from his muscular body while he watched Shane climb back into bed, open Kayla’s night shirt, and reveal her naked body. He watched Shane stroke her inner thighs and massage her left tit as he sucked on the other.

Kayla was totally aware of Dakota’s observation. It was what she wanted him to do. She loved tempting him to no end. It made his cock so stiff, he would be forced to stroke it for her. She didn’t have to ask, but she loved doing it anyway.

“Why don’t you show me how hard it is to resist my hot, horny pussy? Shane couldn’t wait. He’s playing with my clit right now. I’m not really wet yet, so are you sure you don’t want to touch it? If you wait too long, I’m afraid my cunt’s going to become so filled with juice, all you’ll be able to do is suck it dry, or stick your big, beautiful cock in it.”

“Why do you insist on teasing me so, Kayla? How do you dig into me so deep? I can’t stop wanting to fuck you every chance I get,” he said, pulling on his long, smooth shaft.

Shane looked at him with lust in his clear blue eyes. After kissing her bruised arm several times, he returned to Kayla’s mounds, burying his face in them. Dakota watched as her legs began to bend, allowing Shane to finger her clit with precision.

“Shane’s so good at this, Dakota. I love it when he touches me down there. My clit can’t wait for him to stroke it. He always makes it so big and wet. I can feel it throbbing right now,” she said, licking her lips seductively.

Watching the action play out in front of him, Dakota jerked on his hard dick with urgency. “I want to taste your pussy. I want it real wet.”

“Will you tongue-fuck it and lick my big, pink clit until I come?” she aske
d as Shane flicked her bud furiously.

“Oh, yeah, I will,” he said, climbing into bed with them.

Holding on to both of her smooth thighs, Dakota dived into her moist snatch and sucked on her pussy lips until they burned in delight of his excellent work. He started lapping at her cunt as her juices flowed freely. With him licking her engorged bud with ferocity and Shane licking her big, hard nipples, together they brought her to a riveting orgasm.

“Oooh!” she screamed. “Keep licking me, keep licking me!”

As soon as her climax ended, Shane moved to the side of the bed. Grabbing Kayla around her waist, he sat her in his lap. With her back turned to him, he said, “Pull on my dick. I want it rock hard.”

Dakota kneeled in front of her. He closely examined her temple and then placed a gentle kiss upon it. Taking hold of her arm, he kissed it just as Shane had done. Standing in front of her again, he steadied his cock and stuck it in her mouth. “Those sweet, pouty lips of yours look so good with my prick stuffed between them. Suck me off, baby. I wanna fuck your mouth like I’m fucking your pussy.”

She took hold of his member, licking and sucking his helmet before she slid it into her mouth. When it touched the back of her throat, Dakota held the back of her head and pumped her mouth repeatedly. His shaft became as stiff as a rod as he watched her deep throat his meaty prick.

She raised her bottom, allowing Shane to position his cock at her slick entrance. He sat her down on top of his cock, and she worked her way down the length of his shaft. Reaching underneath her thighs, Shane pumped her pussy up and down his rigid member while she sucked on Dakota’s dick harder than she ever had before.

“That woman was right, she is good as new,” Dakota said.

“I’d say better than before,” Shane countered. “Damn, this feels so fuckin’ good. I can’t hold back. I’m coming right now!”

“Suck me, baby, suck me. Oh, I’m gonna spew!” Dakota yelled, holding her head still as his creamy load filled her mouth.
