by Anna Lowe

“Yes… Yes… Yes…” she cried as he hit her deepest, most secret spots.

Drew didn’t utter a word, but the glow in his eyes intensified. The steady rhythm quickened, and he grunted quietly with each pistoning move.

“Yes…” she cried, clawing at his back, trying to find an outlet for the exquisite pressure building inside. “Drew…”

His face grew even more intent as his body jackhammered against hers, moving with power and precision, hitting her G-spot again and again.

She couldn’t see. She couldn’t think. She couldn’t speak other than calling his name. The wave had gathered under her and was lifting her up, ready to send her flying.

  “Please…”

“So good,” he moaned. Sweat shone all over his chest, highlighting every ridge of muscle in the midday light. “So good.”

She reached her hands over her head to grip the headboard, and his eyes flickered in approval. Using her last ounce of energy, she slammed her hips upward, meeting each thrust.

  “Yes… Yes…”

He mouthed the word; she cried hoarsely as they both approached the crest of the wave.

Drew’s lips pulled back, and the points of his canines grew. Just the sight revved her lust up another notch.

“Yes,” she urged him through his last, hard thrusts.

His eyes dropped to her neck even as his hips continued to move.

“Mate,” she whispered. “Do it. I want it. I want you to bite.”

Instinct shoved aside reason, guiding her body. She tipped her head back, seducing him with her pale skin.

He groaned aloud, either at the sight of her ready for him or from the building climax inside.

  “Ready?” he croaked.

  Did he have to ask?

He slammed into her once more. A second time, making her dizzy with ecstasy. Grunting softly, he hammered into her a third time, bottoming out and exploding inside her.

  “Oh, yes…” he murmured.

She could feel his slick heat and every blissed-out emotion whirling through his mind.

And just as that high reached its tipping point, he buried his teeth in her neck and launched them both into an even greater rush.

Her vision filled with brilliant white light, her every muscle tensed, milking Drew hard. Her body burned gloriously in the two places he’d penetrated — where his cock was buried deep, deep inside her, and at the points of his teeth, gripping her neck. It wasn’t a tearing, raging bite. It was the careful hold of a lover. A promise. A vow. She could feel her own pulse beat wildly as he held her, letting their souls connect.

Everything faded away, even the boundaries between their bodies, until all she sensed was heat — heat and joy, filling her up. Her hands might have been gripping the headboard, Drew’s shoulders, or thin air. She didn’t know. Didn’t care. All she wanted was to hold on to the moment forever.

So she did. At least, it felt like forever — the best kind of forever. Even when the world crept back into focus and she became aware of Drew panting wildly beside her, completely spent, the pleasure stretched on and on and on.

The best part is, it’s not just a one-time deal, Jessica had once told her with a naughty look. Once you’re mated, you can bite as often as you like.

She took a deep breath. Holy Toledo, she’d never had sex like that.

Not done yet, her wolf yowled, demanding its turn.

She ran her hands over Drew’s chest and slowly, slowly stretched out across his body.

  “Bliss,” she murmured.

He squeezed her against his chest and kissed her forehead.

Neck. Bite. Mate, her wolf barked.

She slid into a straddle, and his eyes flashed.

“Not too worn out for a little more?” she teased.

He guided her lower to his already hardening cock. “Ready. And not just for a little more.”

The heat swirled out of nowhere, like embers hiding under the ashes of a forest fire, kindled by a fateful wind. And just like that, she was ablaze again.

She sat up and sank onto him, groaning with the sensation of being filled again. And on instinct, her hips began to rock.

She leaned back, riding him harder and harder. He reached up to cup her breasts, to tease her clit, making her crazy with need.

  “Drew…”

Her orgasm was already rushing up to the surface. Were her eyes glowing as brightly as his?

He gulped and tipped his head back. The mighty bear, welcoming her bite. His hands squeezed her hips tightly, and he thrust up.

She arched back, groaning, and her canines extended from her gums.

My turn, her wolf demanded. My turn.

She bucked over him, about to lose control. Drew came inside her, and she shuddered with pleasure, unable to hold back any more. Everything was the heat, the ache, the burning need to complete the ritual. The room was blurry, the air crackled with energy. Instinct guided her to his neck, telling her exactly where it was safe to bite and how. So she did, vaguely aware of how her teeth pushed flesh and veins aside, not damaging anything but the outer layer of skin.

  “Summer…”

He held her so tight to his body, her ribs ached. But that only added to the high. His thoughts echoed in her head, and a thousand images swirled through her mind. Childhood memories and beautiful sunsets and songs and delicious tastes — some from his past, some from hers. Her heart pounded in her chest, and blood rushed through her veins. Wait — his veins. She could feel the push near her teeth, but it seemed like part of her body, not his. Every part of him became part of her.

Mine! her wolf crowed. My mate! Forever!

Heat surrounded her like a thick blanket, and the whole room seemed fuzzy and vague.

She found herself panting and realized she’d let go. Panicked, she checked his neck, but the puncture marks from her teeth were already healing. He was all right. She was all right.

“More than all right,” he whispered hoarsely, gathering her in his arms.

Her bones turned to jelly as she melted over him, settling into the curve of his body as if she’d done it all her life. Holding his shoulders, telling fate it would never force them apart.

“I don’t think we have to worry about that.” He smiled.

His chest was her pillow, his belly her mattress, and the ear she had pressed to his body echoed with the heavy beats of his heart. She lay there quietly, never wanting the moment to end. Then she realized it didn’t really have to end. Drew was right. This was just a beginning, not an end.

She inhaled deeply, then sighed, wishing she could put it all into words.

But once again, she didn’t have to.

“I know what you mean,” Drew whispered, kissing her gently. “I know what you mean.”

  Desert Roots: Chapter 1

Luke tightened his grip on the worn leather steering wheel and shook his head. Damn, did he miss his bike. The wind in his hair. Asphalt rolling under the wheels. The 750cc motor humming with a life of its own. That feeling of utter freedom that always filled him on cool desert nights like this, when a thousand stars dotted the sky and an open landscape stretched to infinity on both sides of the road. The kind of night he would head out on just for the joy of it. No destination. No obligations. No plans.

He gnashed his teeth then spat out the window — and shit, caught a glance of his own reflection in the mirror. Even if he was on his bike, he wouldn’t have felt the wind in his hair, because he’d had it cut short. Straight. Neat. Where the hell had he gotten the stupid idea that a respectable haircut might help him take the first step toward becoming a respectable man?

Who are you trying to kid? a dark voice growled from the back of his mind.

No amount of cleaning up would scrub away the dirty color of his tan or the ink of his tattoos. And no amount of pretending would cleanse away the past.

He took a deep breath and forced his eyes back to the road. This was about looking forward, not back. About a new beginning. And damn it, he’d see this through, no matter what.

A speed limit sign flashed by, and it felt weird, not breaking seventy-five. Not even trying to.

So go a little faster. Chase that high, the dark voice said.

He stared into the darkness, determined not to let his speed inch up. That was just fate tempting him. Fate trying to win the bet that he wouldn’t — couldn’t — succeed in becoming a better man.

“Sixty-fucking-five,” he muttered aloud. “Keep it at sixty-fucking-five.”

So he did — barely — as saguaro cacti saluted him with stiff, prickly arms. When the highway climbed steadily north, though, they faded away along with the lights of Phoenix.

He was just starting up a steep incline when, Vroom! A motorcycle roared by with a lean rider bent low over the handlebars. A vintage Triumph, by the sound of it. And man, it actually hurt to watch something that beautiful move that fast.

That ought to be you, the dark voice goaded.

His inner wolf jumped out of a fitful snooze and howled in his mind. Catch her. Catch her!

  Her?

He sniffed the air. The driver was a woman. Her leather boots laced up the back and ended in little tassels that whipped in the wind. Her scent hit his nostrils as she rushed by, and just like that, his body went from weary to full alert. Blood rushed through his veins and every molecule in his body jumped up and down.

Get her! Earn her! Bring her back! his wolf screamed.

The biker hung back behind a truck passing a slower camper ahead, and for an instant, he dreamed about catching up for a better look. But then she kicked the bike into another gear and shot into the suicidally narrow gap between the two vehicles.

Holy fuck. Was she really going to try threading through that three-foot slot? At ninety miles an hour?

The engine of her Triumph roared through the night, and his inner wolf whistled.

  Holy shit. She really is.

His heart banged away as if he were the one pulling that crazy stunt.

The two vehicles lurched apart and horned blared, but she was already through the gap. A fist shook and horns continued to curse her for another full minute, but the biker was long gone.

  She was gone.

Every nerve in his body tingled. His wolf howled, and he leaned toward the open window, sucking in the last trace of her scent.

Red and blue lights flooded the road as a state trooper rolled past in belated pursuit of the biker. Luke grinned.

“Fly, baby. Fly,” he whispered into the night, cheering her on.

He knew that high. That thrill that came from being chased. From knowing he’d get away, if only by the skin of his teeth. He nearly stomped on the gas to try to catch up, even though he knew he had about as good a chance as that cop did.

But he didn’t because he was supposed to be through with all that.

So he forced himself to drive at that painfully slow pace, licking his lips against a parched feeling that hadn’t been there before. A hunger. A craving for something he could never, ever have.

Her. His wolf sniffed the air. Want her. Need her.

“Sure, buddy.” Luke snorted. “That’s the last we’ll ever see of her.”

The second he said it, his chest started to ache, and his wolf threw its head up in a low, mournful howl. Like he’d just passed up the chance of his life. Like a lottery ticket had just cartwheeled past in the breeze and he hadn’t even made a grab for it. Like destiny had flashed a smile instead of a sneer at him for the first time ever, and he didn’t even know how to react.

“Forget it.” He slapped the wheel and straightened his shoulders. What he needed was to stick to his plan, not lust after a hot ass with a death wish. There was a reason he’d traded his old life in for a beat-up old pickup and a crumpled map pointing the way north on a road he hadn’t traveled in years. The road home, if there still was such a place.

Well, the place was still there. Most of the people, too. That much, he’d heard through the shifter grapevine. But North Ridge, Colorado, had changed a lot since he’d left, and he had, too. Neither of them for the better.

Forgot about that. Speed up. We can still catch her, his wolf urged.

Luke shook his head. Too late.

He drove on, digesting the sinking feeling in his gut for another twenty miles where he pulled off the highway at a floodlit crossroads with a gas station, a bar with a flashing Michelob sign, and not much else.

Ten beers on tap here at Louie’s Bar, a sign blinked.

He licked his lips. Beer wasn’t what he’d been thirsting for, but it wouldn’t hurt.

Live music, the sign next to it announced.

Yeah, he could hear the country tune already, and it wasn’t half bad.

Rooms, said another sign, though one of the two O’s was out.

He could sleep in the back of the pickup, but a shave and shower wouldn’t hurt in the morning before his unannounced visit to the wolves of Twin Moon pack — the one and only stop he’d planned for the drive to Colorado.

So he pulled into the parking lot, stepped out of the truck, and entered the bar. On first sight, it was just like any other bar in any other two-horse town in Arizona. Same stale beer smell. Same sticky floor. Same barstools, dim corners, and thrumming bass guitar. But one thing was different. One thing stood out like a rose among thorns.

Her. The blonde with the long legs standing at the bar.

Listen to what a few Twin Moon fans have to say about this new series:

This is as HOT as her shifter series. For those who want spicy without paranormal, this is a perfect start. I can’t wait to read more about these characters.

I’m enjoying Anna’s new series just as much as I do her Wolves of Twin Moon Ranch series.

It’s not my normal genre but I do love Anna Lowe’s romance books because of the great way she writes. I am really happy this book was the same great style.

Uncharted is different from Anna’s Wolves of Twin Moon Ranch but I enjoyed the story just as well.
