She deigned to obey his whispered words by touching her moist, plump lips against his. And here the truth was revealed. She knew not how to proceed.
He eased her away with gentle pressure upon her shoulders. “Have you never kissed a man?"
"No, my lord. I have not."
He didn't give her a moment to explain. He brought her down to his lips and devoured her. She tasted of mulled wine and tears. She caught on to his movement and tried to apply it against him. The effect defeated any last remnants of resistance he'd held in reserve. He gave her everything he had.
This kiss gave his heart consent where his brain would not. He loved her.

Catharine loved the sensations being fully seated on his cock created deep inside. The up and down movement, while grand, didn't compare to this. Sweat glistened on his chest, and she splayed her fingers across his rippled muscles. He tensed and trembled beneath her fingers. She had ridden him long and hard, but still he remained like a log inside her.
She'd had her coming three times, one after another. “Am I not pleasing you?"
The light caught his arresting golden eyes, making them glow as he stared up at her. He bucked, sending a rush of hot juice inside her, then again and again. He continued to give intermittent shudders as time passed and the tightness inside her eased. Where they joined was slippery with so much cream surrounding them.
"I'll miss this so very much.” And, indeed she would, but she needed to think of her child now. To keep this close to a man who would never love her could only bring heartache.
"Upon my honor, no man will ever do this with you ... or even kiss you. If you will have me, I'll marry you."
His words gave her comfort, but not joy. She didn't want a man who took her as his bride out of a sense of honor, did she? She'd already had one loveless marriage. She shook her head.
"I've made a bad start with us, but I daresay I can improve. My heart insists upon it and denying me will do no good,” he said. “I may not always be wise, but I am most definitely constant in my determination to have you."

One year later
"Madame, this sweet child you bore bears no resemblance to my personality."
"Give her over to her nurse. You'll spoil her."
"Were you like this as a child, always smiling and good-natured? I avow my cheeks have gotten fatter from mimicking her smiles. I've never grinned so much in all my life."
Catharine sighed and leaned back on the chaise. Never could she have believed life could be this perfectly, gloriously joyous. And he was right about Ann's resemblance to Catharine's nature, while her outward features were those of Arden. Blonde with golden eyes, she would be a beauty.
"Perhaps your son will be more churlish, like you."
"My son?” His smile went from devastating to brilliant as he watched her pat her belly.
And she'd believed life couldn't be more perfect ... “And to think we've only begun to bring my renderings to life."
"I've hidden your pens. Your imagination finds more to explore with each passing day."
She brought his hand to her breast. “Don't say you weren't warned."
