“Aren’t you even going to ask me how old I am?” he eventually asked in irritation.
“You’re about fifty-two,” she said cheerfully.
“Give or take a few months,” her mother added helpfully.
“You know?” he asked in shock, looking at each of them in turn.
“Of course we do. It’s not a problem,” Aunt Mai said.
“It’s not?”
“Do you want to know how big the age difference is between Diana and Alec? Cause they’ve got us beat by a few centuries,” Logan informed him, taking a bite of her dessert.
Connell still looked a little green, so she rubbed his back in soothing circles. “It’s different for Supes,” she reminded him.
“I guess that’s true,” he said thoughtfully. His color started to come back. He tapped his fingers on the table. “In a few centuries, the age gap won’t make a difference.”
“That’s the spirit.” Logan laughed.
He sat there silently eating his portion for a few minutes. And then another. After a third, he was back to normal. “Hey, did you see my snake form?” he asked eagerly, setting his fork aside as her mom and aunt started clearing everything away.
By the Mother, she had! “Sorry! These totally distracted me,” she said, waving at his ten-pack abs. “Congratulations on leveling up.”
How could she have forgotten about that? It was a huge achievement for a shifter to gain a second form—one she would have thought impossible just a few weeks ago.
I knew I should have made him put a shirt back on. Those abs were a killer distraction.
Then she remembered something and smiled wickedly. “Acquiring a second form is an amazing feat. Even if it wasn’t what you were going for…”
Connell narrowed his eyes at her, and she elbowed him in the ribs. “C’mon, admit it. You were trying for a dragon,” she teased.
He didn’t bother to deny it. His smile turned cocky. “I’ll get there.”
“I know you will, babe. I know you will.”
