Operation Ginger Avenger Page 35

Grant blinked and looked back at Charity, who nodded and smiled at him, urging him to continue. He took that as permission to monkey-see-monkey-do and he ran lickety-split up the aisle until he was caught up in Ethan’s arms. His father was participating in the wedding, performing the binding ceremony right after the official wedding ceremony was completed.

Charity turned to her and smiled. “Your turn. Take your time…or whatever.” And then she slipped away to join her men up front.

The music swelled, and it was time. She took that first step, and it was a smooth one. She could handle this, she thought, as everyone in the room rose, blocking her view of Tank and Troy up front. They took the ten steps to the center aisle, and Brian paused to help make sure her train was straight for her, and then they took that next step.

Tank and Troy stood there with Ethan Grant and Woody Porter, looking like Scottish Highland warrior fantasies.

She let out a long appreciative sigh. The music was so slow, and it was everything she could do to keep a slow pace. Once she even wobbled in her heels because she wanted to charge forward so much.

When it happened again, Brian stopped her, turned to her, lifted her veil, and said, “Now this just won’t do. I love you, my sister, and I’m giving you away right now, not holding you back from what you deserve most in this world. Leave your shoes so you won’t trip.”

She looked down the long aisle, heard the whispers, and then heard Grace giggle up in the front row…or was it Charity?

Oh, what the heck! Seize the day, baby!

She kicked off one shoe and then the other. She smiled at Brian, kissed his cheek, and ran as fast as her feet would carry her toward her freedom.

And they were waiting there with arms wide open.
