  About Wendy James

  Wendy James was born in Sydney in 1966, and grew up in western New South Wales and the northern beach suburbs of Sydney. Over the years she has worked in a number of diverse fields (as an insurance clerk, kitchen company dogsbody, book-keeper, childcare worker, tutor, manuscript assessor, researcher …) in order to support her writing habit, her university studies and her four children. Wendy currently lives in Newcastle, NSW.

  Out of the Silence, Wendy's debut novel, won the 2006 Ned Kelly Award for first crime novel, and was shortlisted for the Nita May Dobbie Award for women’s writing. She is also the author of The Steele Diaries, Where Have You Been? and Why She Loves Him, a collection of her short stories. Her latest novel is the critically acclaimed domestic thriller, The Mistake (Penguin, 2012). Wendy’s award-winning stories, articles and reviews have been published in literary journals, magazines and newspapers.
