As if Selena hadn’t seen enough bizarre things for one day, a sleek-looking black wolf suddenly morphed into Conner’s Aunt Eliza.
“Enough!” she said in an authoritative voice. “Stop this now!”
The wolves gathered around cowered back some as if in fear of the naked older woman standing before them. Selena felt like she was watching a train wreck. She wanted to turn her head, but there was something about the smell of death that kept drawing you back in. The white and gray wolves still stood staring at each other, looking like they were ready to pounce.
“I said, enough!” Eliza yelled again. That was when Lloyd changed back, and then Conner.
The first thing Conner did was look at Selena. His eyes went ice blue for a second. Then he turned his head back to his aunt and said, “This needs to be settled, now.”
“And settle it we shall,” she said. “The council is here, Conner, Lloyd. Put your issues on the table. If the council is unable to resolve them in a satisfactory way…then you fight to the death. You both know the rules. We are no longer a barbaric society.”
The rest of the wolves began to change. When there was at last a roomful of nude people, some Selena had met before and some that she hadn’t, Eliza said, “Conner has something to say.”
Conner looked around the room and then at Selena again. “I want her as my mate.”
Selena wanted to pull the comforter over her head.
“What does she want?” Eliza asked.
Selena looked at Conner and then at Lloyd and then at everyone else in the room. She hoped that she didn’t look as terrified as she felt, because after a few seconds Conner said, “Leave her alone. She hasn’t even had a chance to process any of this. Try to imagine how overwhelming it must be for her.” He looked back over at her and his eyes flashed ice blue once more.
His aunt laughed and said, “You should have worn your shades, dear. We can all clearly see the ice blue of your eyes.”
“Let him go with her,” Lloyd said. “I will lead.”
“Haven’t we been in this same situation with you, Lloyd?” Eliza asked. “How is your pup anyway?”
“He’s doing well, but he would be thriving if he were allowed to be here, in his home. I made a mistake, Eliza. I am here to rectify it. All you have to do is refuse to allow him to take her as his mate…just like you did with me before his father took over.”
“And my father remained your friend, feeling sorry for you. Look what you did to him in return. You’ve ruined his company, and you’re trying to have his son exiled,” Conner said.
“Is it my fault that his son was tempted by human flesh?” Lloyd asked.
That’s when Selena found her voice. “Yes…it is.”
Suddenly all eyes were on her.
“Don’t listen to her,” Lloyd cried. “She’s a lowly human. She has designs on being an Alpha Queen. She even tried to seduce me.”
“He sent me here after he and his son used me for years. I didn’t know any of this until today, but he set the whole thing up. He wants you to turn your back on Conner so he can have everything. He tried to rape me today. Look at his...um…equipment.”
They all turned to look at Lloyd’s crotch. His shriveled penis was as purple as a violet.
“It’s hardly large enough to be called equipment,” Eliza said. The room burst out in laughter and Lloyd’s face went red. “I think it’s time for a vote. All those in favor of allowing our Alpha to take a human mate…” She turned to look at Selena then, “Assuming she accepts the offer…Say aye.”
There was a resounding “aye” that circulated around the room. “All those opposed?”
Lloyd’s voice was the only one heard as he said, “Nay.”
Eliza looked at him and said, “You don’t get a vote.” She looked at Conner then. “What should we do with him, Alpha?”
“Take him to the lock-up in town for now. We’ll cast him out later.”
Lloyd tried to run, which was ridiculous. He was surrounded, and there was nowhere to go. He changed into his wolf form and once again had to be taken down by force. He howled as he was carried out…a chilling sound. Selena was glad to see him go. She looked around her bedroom and the naked people left behind, and wished that they would do the same.
“I have one more question.” Eliza said to Conner. “Is she carrying a pup in her womb?”
Conner looked at Selena again with those gorgeous ice blue eyes and said, “I hope so.”
CHAPTER FOUR
With some persuasion from Conner, the room was finally cleared of everyone except Selena and Conner. Aunt Eliza had been last to leave. She seemed to have something she wanted to talk to Selena about.
“I’ll explain it all to her, Aunt Eliza,” Conner told her. “Then I will let you know.”
The older woman looked at Selena once more and then back at Conner. Laying her hand on the side of his face she said, “Be sure.”
“I’ve never been surer of anything in my life,” he said.
When they were alone, he went over to her and sat next to her on the edge of the bed. “I’m so sorry about all of this. I should have told you before we made love. I was so overwhelmed by you last night that I wasn’t using my head.”
Selena nodded, but then she said, “I wouldn’t have believed you, and I was just as overwhelmed by you last night. Do you think I’m really pregnant?”
“It’s highly likely,” he said.
“Wow, this job was much more than I bargained for.” She laughed then, she couldn’t help it.
“What’s so funny?” he asked.
“Absolutely nothing,” she said, “Except I feel like I’m losing my mind. Explain it all to me, please.”
“Okay,” he said. “You looked us up?”
“Yes, I was coming to talk to you about it when Lloyd showed up, but I still have a million questions.”
“Okay. I’ll tell you the basic story and then hopefully I can answer them,” he said. “Lloyd was our Alpha years ago, when I was a boy. He met a woman who was passing through, and he wanted her. He was already mated, which was why there was so much controversy. He was mated to my mother.”
“Your mother?” Selena didn’t think this could get any more bizarre.
“Yes,” he said. “She was the Alpha female and when he mated with the human, he was brought before the council. He and his offspring were ousted, and my mother got to choose her next mate. She chose my father. My father was never really Alpha material, but that was okay, my mother was. My father had always been in love with my mother and because he was only a Beta, Lloyd could have had him ousted for it. He never did, and ironically his own ousting ended up with their mating. My father felt things deeply. He was kind of an artsy type, really emotional. He continued to be friends with Lloyd, and even talked my mother into allowing him to have business dealings with him. As long as my parents lived, however, Lloyd wasn’t allowed to come back.”
“What happened to your parents, Conner?”
“The rogue pack of wolves that attacked you had a leader then, who also wanted to be Alpha. I believe that Lloyd was egging him on, but I could never prove it. Anyway, they trapped my parents in separate cages and tortured them, biting at them over and over so that their wounds didn’t have time to heal…until they bled to death.”
“Oh, that’s horrible. I’m so sorry, Conner.”
“Thank you,” he said. “Me, too.”
“Conner, how old are you?” she asked.
He grinned. “I’m older than Alaska. We were here when it was still an iceberg. Does age make a difference to you?”
She giggled. “I guess I’d be okay having a much older man, since he seems to be in such good shape. But seriously, how old are you?”
“I was born in 1814,” he said. “If it’s any consolation, we mature at a slower rate than humans.”
“So you’re like…thirty?” she said with a grin.
“Twenty-nine,” he said, grinning back.

��So what will you do with Lloyd?” she asked.
He looked at her like he didn’t want to tell her. She figured that whatever it was, it wouldn’t be good.
“He was ready to rape me, Conner. I won’t judge you.” She meant it. She thought he deserved whatever he had coming.
“I’m going to cast him out, but not back to his comfortable life. He can live with the rogue wolves and know what it is to lose everything.”
“Isn’t that dangerous? Can’t he just sneak out of the state somehow?”
“We’ll have him watched for a while. All the rogues have been cast-outs at one time or another. He wouldn’t dare change out there. As a human in that wild country, he would be torn to pieces and eaten for lunch. He’ll eventually get wild like the rest, and stop changing.”
“I’m curious about something else. What was the wolf’s bane supposed to do?”
“Cub must not have used enough. It should have shriveled and fallen off at his touch.”
“Oh, that was my fault, I think. I touched it with my sweater, and I probably wiped it off. Please don’t blame poor Cub.” Conner scooted back. Selena laughed and pulled the rest of the tattered garment over her head and tossed it aside. “What about the vinegar?”
“It was to hide Slam and Cub’s scent so they could watch you while Bram came to get me. It’s the one scent that we can’t really penetrate.”
“Bram?” Selena said with a grin.
“His name is Brian. They gave him the nickname Bram because it rhymed with Slam,” he told her.
“Funny family,” she said. “What about Cub?”
Conner grinned. “He’s the youngest and they thought Pup would be too obvious.”
Selena was cracking up. “I have one more question.”
“Anything.”
“I’ve figured out that your eye color changes with your moods. What does it mean when your eyes are ice blue?”
“It means I have found my one and only mate for life.” He looked into her eyes then, and she watched up close as his changed. It was bizarre and sexy at the same time. It gave her a little chill down her spine.
“Okay, I think that’s everything,” she said, suppressing a full-on body shudder. She wanted him again just as badly as she had wanted him last night. “I accept your offer.” She had another Hollywood flashback. “Wait…are you going to bite me, to change me into…a wolf?”
Conner laughed and then brought his mouth crushing down on hers. He kissed her breath away and then pulled back. “No more so than I did last night. Aunt Eliza has the power to change you. It won’t be painful, and you will feel so free. I can’t even describe it, but you’ll love it. She’s the only one of us who has the ability to change humans. She’s a witch.”
Selena couldn’t pass that one up. “She kind of is…isn’t she?”
Conner cracked up at that and brought his lips back down. “I can’t promise our pup won’t bite.”
Selena winced at that, but he kissed her again and she melted back into his arms. Her breath quickened as his lips explored hers and then slid across to her ear. He was using his hands to massage the back of her neck and stroke her hair as he nibbled at her ear.
His hands started sliding down and found their way to her breasts. Lifting the bra up and over them, Conner set them free and began his massage anew on her nipples and the soft mounds of her breasts. He kissed down to her shoulder. She was moaning as he nibbled and kissed his way across and down to her breasts. As he suckled and kissed, he reached under her and unhooked her bra. When he had it off he threw it across the room and continued driving her crazy with his lips, teeth and tongue. As he did that, he was working his fingers slowly over her body, making circles across her soft flesh. He slid his palm down her side and cupped one of her cheeks, squeezing it hard in his hand. He was still nude, and she could feel how excited he was already.
He rubbed himself against her jeans as he continued to trace circles with his tongue across her abdomen. When he reached the top of her pants, he used his teeth to unfasten her jeans and then to unzip them. It was such a turn on for her to watch him. He lifted up then and helped her take them off, taking the panties away at the same time. They were skin to skin now, and as he moved his face down to between her legs, he left his hands on her breasts, leaving his fingers to flick the nipples.
She cried out as he began to lick her from front to back and again, stopping to nibble on her hard, swollen bud along the way. She was loud this time, no more holding back. This man was incredible. Finally, he couldn’t stand it any longer. He reached down and grabbed her under the arms and pulled her up on top of him so that she was straddling his hips. He held onto her hips with both hands and closed his eyes and relaxed, letting her do the work. She slipped up and down, slow and sexy for a while.
When Conner was ready, and he sensed that she was as well, he used his hands to move her up and down, faster and harder until they both cried out in release. She collapsed on top of him, nothing but a light sheen of sweat between them.
He held her, kissing her face softly and stroking her hair. She had her eyes closed and he thought she was sleeping until she slipped one open and said, “Conner, I have one more question.”
He kissed her forehead and said, “Sure, baby, anything.”
“It won’t really be a pup, will it?” she asked with her hand across her belly.
Conner put his hand over hers and laughed, but he never answered her question.
