The man stood, silently pondering the information that he was just given. His eyes narrowed as he thought of the steps he would take next. He started sketching a plan in his mind.
He turned, and immediately, the activity in the room stopped. He looked at another elderly male, whose hand hovered over a red button. The man nodded, and the elderly male pressed the button. The lights flickered off for a moment, but promptly flickered back on.
The man looked down at the frail figure on the table. There was no movement at first. Then suddenly, the frail figure took in a sharp gasp of air, causing the body to rise slightly from the table. Just as quickly as it rose, it slammed back onto the table. The eyes fluttered slightly and then slowly blinked opened. At first, the face wore a look of pure confusion, which morphed into recognition…then fear.
The man bent over the frail figure until their faces were inches apart. A smile spread slowly across the man’s face, revealing gleaming teeth. “Hello, Sultren,” the man said. “Welcome back.”
The End. For now…
