He hated that he was letting what had happened to him and his team affect him. But it was. Not only that, but he was getting as paranoid as many of the people who lived in the area. He wasn’t building a bunker in his backyard yet, but he’d begun to think he was being followed. Fish felt eyes on him all the time, especially here in the grocery store.
Looking around, Fish didn’t see anyone, but the feeling didn’t go away. He completed his shopping as fast as he could and hurried out to his truck. He hated being paranoid, but he’d never been wrong about the shit hitting the fan when the hairs on the back of his neck stood up.
Watching in his rearview mirror as he pulled out of the parking lot, Dane saw nothing unusual. No one followed him and he didn’t see another soul all the way home. Trying to shake off the feeling that his life was about to change, Dane decided as he entered his house that he needed to be extra vigilant. He’d made enemies over the course of his Army career. He knew Truck and his team would have his back if needed, and could get to Idaho in a matter of hours, but he’d have to stay alive so they’d have a chance to get to him.
As he fell asleep that night, Dane wondered for the first time if moving to Idaho was a bad idea. He felt lost with no purpose. After being medically retired, he’d realized that much of who he was had been tied up with being a Delta Force soldier. Protecting others. Now he had no one to protect. He didn’t have anyone’s back. He was truly alone, in more ways than one. And he hated it.

Back at the grocery store, unknown to Dane, a pair of eyes had been watching him. Just as they did every time he came into town. The woman was curious about him. Very curious. She could tell simply by looking at him that he didn’t belong there. He was too…large…for this little part of the world. She could tell with one glance that he was someone special. Destined for great things. Yet here he was.
The woman was small. Very small. Short enough that anyone who saw her would dismiss her as any kind of threat, rightly so. And plain. She blended in with the people in the small town, which was her goal. Her brown hair was nothing extraordinary and the clothes she wore were made for comfort and durability rather than drawing attention to herself.
She’d seen him one night, and he’d immediately piqued her interest. She’d started following him. Learning as much as she could…from a distance. The desire to get to know him, to find out everything about him, was eating at her.
Bryn Hartwell was a genius. An honest-to-God one. She’d come to this small town in the middle of nowhere for a reason. She figured the man at the store had too. She’d keep her eye on him. Watch him. Have his back. Maybe eventually she’d get the courage to approach and say hello. Maybe.
She stood by the large glass window of the grocery store for several minutes after his truck pulled out of the parking lot. Where was he going? Did he have someone waiting for him at home? What was his name?
Shaking her head, Bryn mentally scolded herself. He wouldn’t want to get to know a weirdo like her. No one did.

Rescuing Bryn- October 2017
When you’re a Delta Force soldier, you see a lot. Often too much. But nothing can ever prepare you to see your entire team die before your eyes…
The loss of his Delta brothers—and his arm—has Dane “Fish” Munroe still struggling months later. He’s moved to Idaho, where an isolated lifestyle is making things worse, not better. Not that there’s anyone left to care.
Actually, Bryn Hartwell cares. In fact, she tries to surreptitiously make life just a little easier for the mysterious man who comes into the grocery where she works late at night, only to get a tongue lashing for her trouble. Still, he’s obviously hurting; someone has to worry about him, spurring Bryn to nurse Dane when he hits a particularly low point.
Intrigued by the quirky, kind, socially awkward woman, Dane allows himself to get close to someone for the first time in ages. A potentially epic mistake—because when her interest in the prepper lifestyle puts Bryn in the hands of a homegrown terrorist, losing her could put Dane’s mental recovery permanently out of reach.
But once a Delta, always a Delta. And there’s a team in Texas who are ready to have Dane’s back at a moment’s notice.
* Rescuing Bryn is book 6 in the Delta Force Heroes series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
