  “Too busy,” you’d said. I wondered.

  So I drove by your house. Your car was in the drive, along with hers, that rusted-out sedan. Not bothering to knock, I climbed the stairs. Moans echoed down the hallway. Before leaving, I blew out the pilot and turned on the gas.
