Mysterious Millionaire Page 17

by Cassie Miles

Natalie, also dressed in white, ran up to her. "You're so beautiful. Like a fairy princess."

She thought of Annette and her fantasies. "I'm not a princess. Just a woman."

A very happy woman. They'd closed up the house in Colorado and moved to Seattle for a fresh start. Ben's home in Washington wasn't huge or pretentious. No need for servants or housekeepers like Rachel. Just family. Their family.

She kissed Natalie on the top of her head and waved to Jerod, who sat waiting with his twelve-string guitar on his lap. He'd been practicing and played a version of the wedding march, mixed with half a dozen other tunes.

She linked arms with Harry Schooner, who looked very presentable in his black tuxedo. "Ready to give me away?"

"'You're quite the door prize, Missy. Ben is a lucky man."

"Luck has nothing to do with it."

She gazed over the railing at the dark, mysterious waves, unable to comprehend exactly what had brought her to this point.

  The inevitable dark thoughts intruded.

Victoria, Rachel and Dr. Mancini had all been brought to justice with varying results. Rachel had pleaded guilty and was serving a very long sentence. Likewise for Mancini, who would be incarcerated for two years for his unwitting part in Victoria's schemes. The lady herself— Ben's now ex-wife—was fighting the charges. Still awaiting trial.

As for Patrice and Monte? Liz began to smile again. Patrice had fulfilled her dream of being a talk show guest, partly because of the plump nudie photos. She'd taken a job as a spokeswoman for a weight-loss program.

  Everything had worked itself out.

When they'd first moved to Seattle, Ben had wanted her to work for him, but Liz intended to set up her own practice after she finished up law school. There were a lot of people who needed legal help, people who couldn't afford a fancy law firm. And he'd agreed. He'd already started referring to her as the queen of pro bono.

Not a queen. Just a woman.

And he was just a man. As he stepped onto the deck in his tuxedo, he took her breath away. The most perfectly handsome man she'd ever seen.

She'd never thought she needed a man to take care of her, but she willingly gave herself to Ben. Heart and soul.

When Harry handed her off, she thought she might burst from sheer happiness. Ben's touch on her arm sent shivers through her. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Are you ready for this?" More than ready. "Aye, matey."
