Cash nodded to me. “Go get it, brother.”
“Make sure this is all cleaned up nice,” I said. “All signs point back to Night Soul. Let Chief Danielson do his work there.”
“On it,” Cash said. “I’m going to fucking enjoy this.”
“I know you are,” I said. “Make it right.”
I walked away without looking back.
I walked right to Dakota, my woman, and I grabbed her by the waist. I lifted her and put her right on the hood of the car. Call the scene what you wanted, but it was pretty fucking intense for me. She had been kidnapped in that very car, her wrists taped together, taken to what could have been her final resting place.
But that’s not what I had in mind for her.
The reaper could chase us down for years to come.
I pressed my lips to hers and I heard what would become the beginning of Nelson’s end.
Cash and Austin were beating him down. Then they’d show the prospects how to properly assess a scene and clean it all up.
I scooped Dakota into my arms.
“Darling, I fucking love you so much.”
“Kye… you saved me…”
“You saved our son,” I said. “You’re my hero, darling.”
“I need to see him. I need to hold him.”
“Me too,” I said.
I then walked Dakota down to where I had parked my motorcycle.
My next mission?
Get to my son.
**
Ellis was at the bar with Max.
Max turned and I ran through the clubhouse, tearing the little boy from his arms. I held Ellis tight, kissing his head, feeling a wave of emotion rush through me. I wanted to smile and cry at the same time. Dakota was there with me, touching his back, eager to get him out of my arms.
I let Dakota take the baby but not before I kissed him three more times.
I then set my sights to Max. I grabbed him and hugged him tight.
“Goddammit, brother,” I said.
“It’s all good,” Max said. “It’s all good. The kid is safe. Your woman is safe. Everything is okay.”
I gripped Max tighter.
Then I let him go, hanging my head, trying to hide any of the raw emotion that wanted to sneak free.
I grabbed for Dakota and Ellis, vowing to never let them go again.
The clubhouse door opened and Jasper and Cade came inside.
“I want all the details,” Jasper called out before the door could swing shut.
So I filled him in. “We got Nelson. Cash and Austin are with him. Finishing the job.”
“You didn’t take it?” Jasper asked.
“I needed my family,” I said.
Jasper nodded. “Trev will be back in a few. We need a table meeting.”
“Prez?” I asked. “What happened with Eden?”
“Another damn false alarm,” Jasper said. “Poor woman.”
“Damn,” Max said.
I slipped my hand to the small of Dakota’s back. “Why don’t you take Ellis down the hall to my room? I’ll have someone show you where it is. Let me finish here and we’ll go home.”
“Home,” Dakota whispered with a nod. “Okay. Home.”
I kissed her, longer than I needed to in front of so many people.
I pointed to a prospect behind the bar and he nodded.
Jasper then motioned for the door and we started to file in, waiting for our President.
When he came, I was standing at the open door.
Watching the way he was with Eden really got to me for some reason. A man with that much power yet he was so gentle and loving to his old lady. Poor Eden was crying. A few of the other women came to her aid and walked her down the hall.
Trev stopped a foot away from me. “What a day.”
“What a fucking day,” I said. “I’m sorry about Eden.”
“I’m sorry about Dakota and Ellis.”
“It’s good. It’s worked itself out.”
Trev clamped a hand to my shoulder. “You’re right. It has. And all the other shit will too. Because that’s what we do here. Now I want to hear it all. Because it’s time to move forward, Kye. That’s what this club needs. That’s what this family needs.”
I nodded and walked into the room to take my seat.
I looked around at my brothers.
I felt the swell in my heart.
We had been through some good times, bad times, and some really rough times.
But at the end of the day, we could all sit at the table together.
That was how the MC was meant to run.
That was how the MC would survive.
Not just today and tomorrow.
It was how the MC would survive for forever.
chapter thirty-four.

I sat on a pool table. There was a crowd of bikers all around me with an open path that led down to Kye. He leaned against a bar stool with a cocky grin on his face. Right next to him was Trev’s woman, Eden. She was so pregnant and obviously uncomfortable. My personal guess was that she couldn’t be more than a few days away from giving birth. I had gotten the chance to talk to her a few times and she was a sweetheart.
In fact, everyone was a sweetheart.
These rough and tough bikers really were a family together.
Hanging off Eden’s wide hip was my son.
Trev emerged from the secret meeting room and went right for Ellis. He lifted the baby in the air and twisted him left to right, making him cry out with a giggle.
He then sat Ellis in his arms. “The only tragedy we have here today is that this little guy is named Ellis.”
Kye clapped his hands together and laughed.
I threw the middle finger at the President of the motorcycle club.
“The good news is that he has time to earn his cut,” Trev said. “And earn a name that’s tough.”
“Thanks for that,” I called out. “But you can blame her…”
I pointed to Debbie who was just a few feet away from me. Trev insisted that Debbie come to clubhouse for the little gathering we were having.
“I like the name,” Debbie said.
“Either way, this little outlaw is going to be something huge,” Trev said. “I can feel it.”
“I can smell it,” Trent called out and waved a hand in front of his face.
“Smells like his father!” Cade yelled.
The clubhouse erupted in laughter.
Trev held Ellis out and started to step toward me.
Kye cut in and took the baby.
“I’m not done here,” Kye said.
He walked to me. The entire club looking at him.
“You gave me a son. You brought a life into this messed up world. A messed up world that we all fight to keep somewhat safer. I can’t promise that there won’t be more messed up days. But what I can promise is that for all the messed up days, we’ll find good days. Great days. Days where this clubhouse will be rocking. Days where the thunder of the motorcycles will be a sweet serenade to the horizon.”
“How poetic,” Jasper said.
“Get to the point, Kye,” Trev said. “We don’t have all night here.”
“I do,” Kye said.
He leaned in and kissed me.
“Get a room!” Max yelled.
“I’ll watch Ellis,” Eden said and laughed.
Kye took my hand and opened it. He then placed Ellis’ small hand to mine. Finally, he put his large hard over both of ours. Our foreheads were touching for a few seconds before he spoke again.
“My family,” he whispered. “I want this to be forever.”
“It is,” I said. “I’m not…”
I felt something touch my hand.
Kye moved his hand and there was a diamond ring in my hand, along with Ellis’ tiny hand.
I let out a gasp when I saw the ring.
“Wait for it,” Xavier said. “She’s going to tell him to get a clue. If she is smart.”
A few of the guys snickered.
“Kye…”
“This is what I want,” he said. “I will give you everyday for the rest of my life. To you and to Ellis. If you’ll have me.”
Without hesitation I let out a loud Yes!
It was so loud that Ellis jumped.
The clubhouse started to cheer, sending Ellis into a crying fit.
I took Ellis from Kye and put him on the pool table to calm him and change his diaper. Behind me, it was a little chaotic. Everyone was cheering for the new engagement.
I looked at the diamond next to me on the edge of the pool table.
Engagement? Marriage? Me?
I smiled as Ellis cried.
I changed him and looked to my left and saw Cash was standing next to Debbie.
“Oh, no,” I whispered.
Kye stepped up next to me again. “What’s wrong?”
“Cash…”
“You know,” Cash said, “I can make you feel twenty years younger, sweetie.”
Debbie looked right at Cash, eyes wide. To my complete shock she moved to her toes and planted a kiss on Cash’s cheek.
“Sorry, kiddo, I don’t rob the cradle.” She then smacked him across the face. “Plus, I would do things to you that would leave you sucking your thumb, sitting in a corner, trying to figure out what happened. That’s not a good look on you.”
There was a collective oohhhh sound as Debbie strutted away and came to the pool table.
“That was cold,” I said.
“Cash loves it though,” Kye said.
“I’ll take this one,” Debbie said. “You two need to finish talking.”
I turned and Kye pinned me against the pool table. “You said yes but now you need to wear the ring.”
I offered my left hand. Kye slowly slid the ring down my finger. His hand clutched tight around my hand.
We kissed.
“I can’t believe this is happening,” I said.
“Being engaged to me?”
“No. Being in this clubhouse.”
“Come on now,” Kye said.
I smiled. “I’m in shock of everything, Kye.”
He touched my face. “Good. Because this is just the beginning. Forever is a long damn time, darling.”
chapter thirty-five.

I snuck inside a little before one in the morning. I was stone cold sober, feeling refreshed after riding through town. We had a long, drawn out meeting about the direction of the MC. But the second I shut the door, none of that mattered. What mattered were my house and the people inside it.
There was a messy blanket on the couch. I assumed Debbie had been over while I was with the club. I had seriously considered moving her in but I knew she’d never do that. She had her place and she was part of my family and part of the MC family. Hell, with the way things went around the club, it was nice to have a nurse on call to help us out.
On the chair was the diaper bag. Some little toy on top of it. A set of rainbow colored plastic keys. I grabbed the toy and laughed at it. I needed to make a point to introduce Ellis to the outlaw life little by little. Prez already joked and said he was going to order Ellis a mini leather cut with a logo on it. I loved the way Dakota cringed when someone brought it up. But she knew what would happen with Ellis. He’d see it all. Yeah, maybe he’d lose his innocence, but everyone did. In exchange, the amount of protection and support Ellis would have…
I put the plastic keys down and went to the stairs.
I stopped first at the nursery and found my son fast asleep. He was on his back, fists next to his head, head turned to the right. I reached down and touched his pudgy cheek. I smiled again.
How could you love someone so fast? How could you feel it so deep inside your heart?
I completely understood it all though.
I would die for Ellis.
I would kill for Ellis.
But tonight, I settled for a few minutes of watching him sleep, finding comfort in that.
When I left the room, I pulled the door halfway shut.
My next stop was the master bedroom.
There was a small light on, spreading just enough across the bed that I could see Dakota. I stepped out of my shoes and took off my leather cut. My t-shirt smelled of the clubhouse. I ripped it off and threw it in the hamper. I climbed into the bed and peeled the covers down Dakota’s bare shoulder.
I kissed her shoulder and nuzzled my nose against her neck. My hand slid down her arm, finding her fingers, where I interlocked my fingers to hers tight.
“I’m home, darling,” I whispered into her ear.
“Good,” she said. “I missed you.”
“I love you, Dakota. You have nothing to worry about.”
“I know,” she said. “I love you, too.”
I kissed Dakota’s cheek and she smiled. Her ass wiggled against the front of my jeans. That little move made it very clear it was going to be a long night. I broke my hold of her hand and touched the front of her panties.
There were wars outside the house and outside the town. The MC would never get a chance to rest or sleep. There was always something waiting, always something coming.
But inside my house, my bedroom, it was about the moment.
And for this outlaw… I was going to spend these moments filled with love.
