CaliGirl24: I bet you’ve never had your heart broken either.
I pause, taking in her last message and weighing it against what it means to me. I’m not about to spill my life story to a stranger, let alone to anyone. That part of me I’ve kept locked away from everyone, and I have no plans to change that.
MrDarcy: You don’t become as successful as I have in life wearing your heart on your sleeve.
I hit send and catch Garcia’s eyes staring at me again in the rearview mirror.
“We’re two minutes away, sir.” His voice lacks any emotion, reminding me of who I am and what I do. Giving him a nod, I glance back down at my phone to close the app, catching her response before the chat box disappears.
CaliGirl24: Too bad. You’re missing out.
I shake my head, clearing the lingering thoughts of her to focus on my meeting. The potential client is someone I’ve been chasing since FJF opened its doors, but Jasper Evens has always been loyal to my family’s company. With Darcy Holdings out of the picture, I’m hitting Jasper hard, with everything I’ve got.
I refuse to walk out with another no.

I stare down at my phone, sipping on the large glass of red wine I poured from the bottle I’ve been nursing all night.
Today was a shit day from the moment my alarm didn’t manage to go off on time. I was late getting to the bakery, not that Dee was terribly upset about it, but she’s counting on me more as the baby’s arrival approaches. I want to be someone she can count on, but I’m not sure how more I can take of being her delivery girl.
The one thing I’ve had to look forward to is the time I spend talking with him.
Everything about him leaves me breathless, and I don’t even know his name.
CaliGirl24: Do you think it’s strange we’ve yet to exchange names? We’ve been chatting for a few days.
MrDarcy: I didn’t know we were required to follow a timeline.
CaliGirl24: No, but if were to ever meet, what would I call you?
MrDarcy: Mr. Darcy, of course.
