Something Greater Than Yourself: An Omega Mpreg Romance Page 14

by Louise Bourgeois

“Did you have fun?” asks Oliver, his voice just a whisper, a question that’s for Sam and nobody else. Sam nods and smiles shyly, pressing his face against the crook of Oliver’s neck.

“I ate so much,” he says, happily. “And played with the dog. And it snowed and the dog got all covered in snow and couldn’t walk. And we went to mass at midnight and it was cold and nobody was speaking and afterward we had roasted chestnuts and went to sleep and Jamie told a ghost story.”

“Was it a scary ghost story?”

“It was only scary because he yelled at the end and we all started yelling. Uncle Steven yelled too.”

“He fell off the bed,” adds Junia, with a grin. Oliver laughs, patting Junia’s head as she leans against him for a second, then smiles, takes Jamie’s hand, and walks up the stairs.

Adrian locks the car, he walks to Oliver, kisses his cheek, hugging him, Sam giggling between the two of them.

“Will you stay for lunch?” asks Adrian.

  “Please?” adds Sam.

  Oliver nods.

  ***

Jamie is explaining something to Oliver, looking serious and focused, carefully choosing his words before speaking; Oliver nods as he listens, like he’s being told something of the utmost importance.

Sam is sitting on the counter, legs dangling, watching as Adrian moves the roast to a platter and carries it to the table, then patiently waiting for Adrian to come back and pick him up.

“Did you have a nice Christmas?” asks Adrian, cutting the roast in tiny pieces for Sam.

“I did,” smiles Oliver, and for a moment looks like he wants to ask Adrian something, but doesn’t. “There was nobody in the streets, so I took a walk in the park,” he says instead, and Adrian smiles at him. He can picture him easily; eying everything with his eyes wide, walking and walking, paying attention to every little sound, every little flicker of the light.

“What?” asks Oliver, looking a bit embarrassed when he notices the way Adrian’s looking at him.

  “Nothing.”

“Actually, I… I think you’d like it, up at my parents’ house. There are woods all around. I think you’d like exploring a bit.” He pauses for a moment. “Maybe in the summer, when the woods come alive again, and there’s animals everywhere… I would like to show you, one day.” His voice a bit unsure as the sentence ends. He’s not sure Oliver would want to share something like that with somebody else.

“I would like that.” Oliver says softly, and Adrian feels his lips stretch into a smile again.

  ***

Adrian walks back to the living-room, sitting on the couch with a little groan.

“All asleep?” asks Oliver, checking a list of orders he’s supposed to fill next week. Adrian nods, smirks a little, then crawls to Oliver’s side of the couch, rubbing his nose against Oliver’s and stealing a little kiss. Oliver smiles and perches up, kissing Adrian back, sucking on his lower lip for a second before sitting back down; Adrian snuggles against him more comfortably, kisses him lazily, a hand caressing Oliver’s face as he sighs against his lips. He feels cool against Oliver, his hair feels nice between his fingers.

“Would you..”Adrian looks at him questioningly, his eyes dark but smiling, his face flushed.“Would you like to move to the bedroom?” He looks hopeful and slightly embarrassed. Oliver laughs and nods.

They try to be as quiet as they possibly can as they walk to Adrian’s room; Adrian closes the door so delicately it barely clicks as it shuts. The covers on Adrian’s bed are soft but cold, and Oliver kicks his shoes off and lets Adrian tug him underneath them, kissing him deeply for a moment before he decides they’re overdressed for the occasion, and starts pulling at Oliver’s sweater, Oliver stifling a laugh and sneaking his hands underneath Adrian’s sweater, too.

Oliver is not sure how it’s possible, but hugging Adrian like that, being so close and with so little separating them, doesn’t make him feel uncomfortable at all. Adrian’s skin is hot underneath the palms of Oliver’s hands, his hair keeps falling on Oliver’s face, tickling. He likes the way Adrian holds him, likes how strong his grip feels, and how gentle at the same time. He likes the taste of him, too.

Oliver hooks a leg over Adrian’s waist, sighs when Adrian scrambles to suck on his neck and their hips rub together, he throws his head back and hums when the shivers start blooming underneath his skin.

Then Adrian stops moving and just looks at him, his hair falling around his face like a curtain, only one of his eyes hit by the frail light coming from the street. He traces the shape of Oliver’s lips with his fingertips, and when Oliver kisses them his eyelashes tremble softly.

Adrian’s hand slides to the back of Oliver’s head; he kisses him slowly and deeply, carefully mapping his mouth with his tongue, then moving away a little and looking back down at Oliver.

“What’s wrong?” asks Oliver, his voice so low he’s not even sure he’s actually said anything. Adrian licks his lips, he looks a bit guilty.

“Will you think I’m strange if we just cuddle?” he asks.

Oliver chuckles. “I won’t think you’re strange. Promise.”

  “But don’t stop kissing me.”

  ***

It’s still dark when Oliver walks out of Adrian’s house, lingering on the doorway, in the same spot where Adrian first kissed him, and letting Adrian kiss him a little bit more. The morning is cold, and Oliver is warm and getting warmer as Adrian nibbles on his lower lip, but he can stand the cold for a while more if Adrian is holding him like that, is his hands are clutching at the back of Oliver’s coat and his nose is brushing against his and his heart is beating under the palm of Oliver’s hand.

“Sorry I didn’t let you get any sleep,” whispers Adrian. Oliver shakes his head, hugging him tight, pressing his face against the crook of Adrian’s neck. “You probably needed sleep more than I do.”

“Don’t you have a lot of baking to do?” Adrian sighs, but doesn’t let go of Oliver.

“Yeah… I’ll manage. I’ll take a nap after lunch, so I can party all night long,” he laughs, swaying a little. “You could come… if you felt like it. I don’t want to pressure you, it’s not… I just mean that if you feel like having company, you just need to knock at my door.”

“I know,” Oliver smiles. “Thank you. It does mean a lot to me.”

Adrian kisses him one last time, then reluctantly steps back, hands sliding along Oliver’s arms and holding Oliver’s for a moment.

  “Good night.”

  “Good night,” answers Oliver.

He feels so light as he crosses the street, his eyes hurting from the cold, his breath turning into smoke. He can still feel Adrian’s lips on his throat, his beard scratching his skin. He turns to look at Adrian’s house when he reaches the top of the stairs, and Adrian is still there, standing right outside his door, hugging himself to keep the cold at bay. He raises his hand and waves at Oliver, and Oliver waves back.
