I’ll keep your secret.
It was printed in Jules’ clear precise handwriting. There was no doubting what this meant. After almost six months, Jules had discovered her secret. Shanya bit her lip. It had taken ages to break that habit and now it was back again.
Jules knew that her parents were intimately involved and provided much of the funding for the anti-shifter group, the Human Research Council.
At least it was Jules who discovered her secret. If it had been Myst in possession of this information she didn’t know what horrors would be unleashed.

Labor was an ordeal.
Shanya had never been one of those women who insisted on doing things the all-natural way. Even if Myst jokingly suggested that it would help her connect with Josephine Onca, Shanya was not going to do it. She believed in using modern medicine. She also doubted that pain beyond all earthly pain was something that could add to her research. What could she add that had not been felt by countless women before her?
It took forever. All the ER shows that Shanya had ever seen were made of lies. Labor was not easy for her. Not only was the medication not enough to numb away the pain, but also it was long. It continued even though Shanya was completely worn out. She was being feed through an IV but she was exhausted and sweat soaked.
Through all of this, Storm stayed by her side. He stroked her damp, curling hair. He wiped her face. He held her hand. He was there.
The names were the easiest part. There was Onyx (a jewel for Jules, Mystia crowed), Josephine (for Shanya’s research subject), with Rain and Tempest for Storm himself. Mystia insisted that Tempest was named for her. Shanya just smiled and held her babies close to her. She gazed lovingly down at them. She could not believe that she had managed to come this far. She reached out and Storm was there. He was eager to hold the babies.
Mystia reached out for one of them.
“No!” Storm barked the order and sent two of the set to fussing.
“Why not?” Shanya asked curiously. She wondered if it had anything to do with how quickly Mystia had cooled towards her when she had assumed that Shanya was just doing this for money.
“She fainted when she saw you give birth,” Storm said, curling his arms protectively around Onyx and Tempest. “She can’t hold them until she takes classes.”
Mystia flushed.
“It’s true,” Jules said. “Dead away faint. Nurses had to step over her.”
“Can I least look at them?” Mystia asked.
“Of course,” Shanya said and allowed Mystia to come close to her. The girl gazed upon the four babes with wonder.
“I’m so glad you got together,” Mystia said. “It’s just like the movies.”
Shanya smiled. It did seem that way. Maybe Shanya Black was going to get her happy ending after all.
