“How long is this gonna take?”
She laughed at his matter-of-fact tone. “That depends on you, doesn’t it?”
“This feels weird.” He held his legs under his thighs. “Like I’m about to give birth.”
“Once I start you’ll wonder why the hell we hadn’t done it before.” She planted gentle kisses inside his warm thighs and toyed with his dick by blowing on the tip and pretending she’d kiss it. “You getting hard again?”
“I will.” He groaned. “If you keep blowing on my dick like that. Suck my balls.”
She held his dick up, kissed underneath it and took one ball into her mouth then switched to the other.
“Damn…” He wiggled. “Oh.”
“Scoot up. No, wait.” She stood. “Stand up and turn around.”
With an expression of a frightened kitten, Kevin stood and turned around.
“Bend over.”
He leaned over with his hands on the couch and his sexy ass in front of her, calling her name.
“Your ass is so beautiful.” She kissed his smooth, tanned cheeks. “So soft.” She slapped it.
“What the hell?” He looked back.
She grinned. “You’re not gonna know what hit you.”
“It’ll feel that good?”
“Oh, yes.” She pulled down her panties and fondled her clit. “For the both of us. Haven’t you ever wondered about it?”
“Yeah, a little.” He swallowed, loudly. “Won’t lie and say I haven’t fantasized about a woman licking my ass. Just never had the courage to ask. Especially not you. Never thought you’d be into it.”
“Look at me, Kevin.”
He glanced at her over his shoulder.
“I’m into anything as long as it’s with you.”
He smiled and turned back around.
“Rub your dick while I suck you.” She placed her head between his warm ass cheeks.
“Don’t worry I will.”
She felt Kevin stroking himself and took in a whiff of his ass. “Ooh, I love your ass.” She sniffed it again. “God, you’re making me wanna cum, Kevin. Just from smelling you.”
He groaned, tugging on his dick. “Suck me, Lexi. Show me how good it can feel.”
She licked his asshole, wetting it.
“Yes,” he called out. “Damn, the sensation!” He leaned up. “Jesus. Oh, yes.”
“Knew you’d like it,” she mumbled between licks.
“I love it.”
“I love smelling your ass.” She licked harder. “The more I smell it the more I want my mouth on it.”
“Suck me, Lexi.” His cheeks wiggled as she penetrated her tongue further inside. “Stick your tongue in…deeper.” He moaned.
She reached underneath and took his dick.
“Yes,” he begged.
She stopped for a second to catch her breath then continued sucking him while his ass turned red. “You want more?”
“You fucking kidding me?” he shouted. “Fuck yeah! Don’t stop.”
She licked his trembling hole while stroking his dick.
“Lexi…ooh.”
She wiggled her tongue from side to side, as a cramp crept through it but she wouldn’t dare stop.
“What…” He moaned. “What does it taste like?”
“Great.” She licked. “I want you so bad.”
“I’m coming, shit.” His legs wobbled as his dick fattened with cum inside her hand. “I’m coming, Lexi. Oh.” He released.
Alexis licked her lips to experience that last, delicious taste of his asshole. “Mm. You liked that?”
He turned around and sat down, panting. “That was incredible.” He rubbed his red face. “Like nothing I’ve ever felt before.”
“I have a feeling we’ll be doing this again soon.” She rubbed his thigh, grinning.
“Definitely.” He huffed and puffed. “Oh.”

Sebastian slumped up to Rose’s trailer with his hands in his pockets. “Hey.”
“Hey.” She sat on the concrete steps, snuggling in her denim jacket. “It’s so cool tonight.”
“Yeah, a little chill’s come in.” He sat beside her. “How have you been?”
She twisted the ends of her hair around her finger. “Adams and Dao were here earlier.”
“Did they find out something about Donovan?” He leaned back on his elbows.
“No, but I told them and Momma about the calls.”
“Whoa.” He sat up straight. “I bet Jesse threw a fit because you didn’t tell her.”
She let her hair go. “When does Momma not throw a fit?”
“What made you tell?”
She pulled at her shoelace. “I think he might be the killer.”
“Are you sure you don’t know who it is?” He moved her hair out her face. “You have any clue?”
She looked at him.
“Wait a minute.” He held up his hands. “You can’t think it’s me.”
“No.” She touched his leg. “We’ve been friends forever. You wouldn’t do something like this.” She laid her head on her knees and sobbed.
“Hey.” He held her. “Why are you crying?”
“Because I feel like Donovan’s death is my fault.”
“Donovan was a creep.” He felt her hair. “He planned to rape you.”
“That doesn’t mean he deserved to die.”
“You always give people the benefit of the doubt.” He moved his arm from around her. “Donovan brought it on himself. If he hadn’t been shot then he would’ve raped you.”
“But he’d still be alive, Sebastian.” She sniffled.
“Jesus.” He shook his head. “You were really in love with him, weren’t you?”
She wiped her eyes. “Does it matter now?”
“Donovan was a snake.” He got off the steps. “He made a bet with his friends that he could have sex with you. How could you still feel sorry for that guy?”
“Wait.” She wiped her damp hands on her jeans. “You know about the bet?”
“Yes. The only one who didn’t know was you because you lived in a cloud when it came to him.” He moved his hand around. “I kept telling you that Donovan only wanted one thing and you wouldn’t listen.”
She stood. “You’re supposed to be my friend?” she shouted. “And you didn’t tell me about the bet? Momma didn’t tell me! How can I depend on either of you when you keep secrets from me?” She walked to the door.
He ran up the steps and grabbed her. “You know I love you, Rose.”
“Sebastian.” She held on to his arms.
“I always have.” He shook her. “I never wanted you to get hurt, but you didn’t know the real Donovan.”
“Let me go.”
“You didn’t want to listen to any of us. It’s like Donovan was all you cared about.”
“Let me go!” She pushed on his chest. “You’re hurting me, Sebastian.”
“You gotta believe that I’d never do anything to hurt you, and I certainly wouldn’t hurt you like Donovan tried to.”
She pushed him harder. “You’re scaring me!”
“You don’t have to be scared.” He pulled her close. “I’m here for you, Rose.” He moved his mouth to hers. “I always have been.”
“No.” She turned her face from his kiss.
He let her go.
“I don’t feel that way about you, Sebastian. I told you that.”
“So even beyond the grave, you still like Donovan?” He kicked the paint bucket beside the steps. “Is there anything anyone can fuckin’ do for you not to want Donovan anymore?” he shouted. “Huh?”
“Oh, god.” She gripped the doorknob. “Did you kill him, Sebastian?”
“Wow. Seriously?”
“I’ve been trying my hardest not to believe that, but a part of me keeps wondering.”
“How can you wonder about anything when it comes to me, Rose?” He gestured to her. “I do everything for you. I’ve been the one looking out for
you and caring for you since we were kids, yet you doubt me?”
She shivered. “Did you kill him?”
“No, but I won’t deny that I’m glad he’s dead.”
“That’s horrible to say, Sebastian.” She opened the door. “A horrible thing to say.”
She went inside.
Chapter Fourteen
“Oh!” Rose awoke around midnight at the sound of glass shattering down the hall.
“Woo hoo!” Men hooted and hollered outside of the trailer. “Yeah!”
Tires screeched as a vehicle tore down the street.
“Rose?” Jesse busted into her room and turned on the lights. “Are you all right?” She held a gun.
“Yeah, what…” Rose got out of bed. “What’s that?” Rose pointed to the gun. “Momma?”
“It’s for protection, baby.” Jesse ran down the hall.
“Momma?” Rose followed her into the living room.
“Stay back!” Jesse bent down at the broken window.
“What’s happening?” Rose turned in a circle. “What’s going on? What was that?”
“I’d bet some of Donovan’s friends.” Jesse turned on the overhead light.
A rock and shattered glass lay on the carpet.
“This is crazy.” Rose gripped her head. “Why would they do this?”
“Because they think you or I killed Donovan.” Jesse shook the gun.
“What if it’s not Donovan’s friends? What if it’s people connected to the caller?” Rose clenched her gown. “I’m scared. What if they come back?”
Jesse held up the gun like Dirty Harry. “That’s why I have this.”
Rose stared at the gun. “When did you get that?”
“I’ve always had it.” Jesse lowered it. “Honey, we don’t live in the best neighborhood.”
“So you have a gun and you didn’t tell me?” Rose shouted. “Do you realize what this means? You lied to the police!”
“I didn’t kill Donovan.”
“Then why didn’t you tell them you had a gun? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I was afraid that you would think I did it, and obviously I was right.”
Rose paced. “You have to tell the police about the gun.”
“I can’t do that, Rose.”
“Momma.” Rose grabbed her. “Did you kill Donovan?”
Jesse raised her head. “Do you believe that I did?”
“I don’t want to.” Rose let her go.
“Then don’t.” Jesse hugged her. “Because I swear I didn’t kill him.”

“Okay.” Alexis sat against her headboard with the sheet covering her breasts. “Thanks for letting me know. Bye.” She hung up.
“What was that about?” Kevin lay against the pillows.
“Apparently some guys threw a rock in Jesse Malone’s window and broke it.”
“What guys?”
She snuggled against him. “They think it might be Donovan’s friends.”
“Because they think Jesse or Rose killed him?”
“Sounds like it.” She tangled her leg with his under the chaotic sheet.
He planted tiny kisses across her forehead. “You okay?”
She dragged her finger down to his belly button. “Seems like weird things keep happening involving Rose and Jesse.”
He brought her arm across his waist. “Well, I’m confident you’ll find out what’s going on. You’re one hell of a cop.”
She smiled and kissed him. “What about Grant? Are you confident I’ll find out the truth about him, too?”
He held her tighter.
“You think Grant got Leo fired?”
“It’s possible.” His voice cracked. “Anything’s possible, right?”
“How does that make you feel?”
“Like shit.” He laid his hand over his eyes. “Like a fool if it turns out he really did it.”
“You’re not a fool, Kevin.” She touched his face. “And, I know you love him very much.”
“All that matters to me is that you’re okay.” He rubbed his mouth. “I’m gonna try to find out what’s going on with Grant.”
“Kevin.” She touched his leg. “I don’t want you in the middle.”
He grinned, kissing her hand. “It’s too late for that.”

Four Days Later
“Well, look at you.” Penelope beamed from her cubicle when Alexis got to her desk.
“What?” Alexis giggled and hung her purse on her chair. “Why are you teasing me when I just got to work?”
“You know why.” Penelope flashed a sneaky smile. “I called you all last night and you didn’t answer.”
“Kevin took me out.” Alexis turned on her computer.
“I figured as much.” Penelope rolled her eyes. “Now spill it. Where did you go?”
“Girl.” Alexis turned her chair toward her. “We went to the Garlend Hotel.”
Penelope sat back with her mouth open. “Get the hell outta here.”
“No.” Alexis leaned her head to the side. “We had dinner there and we got a suite.”
“I’m jealous as hell.” Penelope put her elbows on her desk and propped her hands under her chin. “That’s where all the celebrities and politicians stay when they come to town. The closest I’ve been to the Garlend Hotel is when I pass it on the street.”
They laughed.
“It was like a dream. That suite was huge. It was almost as big as my entire house.” Alexis tugged on her gold bracelet. “And we sipped champagne in this humongous Jacuzzi.”
“And where did you get this monster?” Penelope rolled her chair to her and grabbed the bracelet.
“He gave it to me last night after we…” Alexis grinned. “You know.”
“Oh, this is beautiful, Lexi.” Penelope spun the bracelet around Alexis’ arm. “Wow.”
“I keep telling him he doesn’t have to get me these gifts.” She logged on to the Internet. “Makes me uncomfortable that he always pays for things and—”
“That’s your man.” Penelope slid back to her desk. “If he wants to buy you a necklace, bracelet, and spend thousands of dollars pampering you at the Garlend Hotel, don’t you dare discourage him.”
Alexis touched the bracelet. “The gestures are sweet, but I’m starting to feel uncomfortable about them. I don’t want him to think I’m with him because of his money.”
“Kevin knows that.” Penelope hugged Alexis and kissed her cheek. “I’m so happy for you, Lexi.”
“Speaking of men…” Alexis pulled Penelope’s hair. “When are you gonna get a man?”
“Uh-uh.” Penelope slid back to her desk. “It’s time to work.”
“No, no, no.” Alexis laughed, waving her finger. “When are you going to get a man? You said it’s been a year and a half since you’ve dated.”
Penelope got gum from her desk. “I’m not looking.”
“Maybe you should be.”
“Now wait a minute.” Penelope raised an eyebrow. “Just because you knocked the cobwebs off of your little kitten…now you’re trying to give me advice?”
“Cobwebs?” Alexis laughed. “Oh, I know she didn’t just say cobwebs.”
“I did just say cobwebs, sweetie.” Penelope popped the stick of gum in her mouth. “Seriously, there’s no one here I want to date, and the ones I’ve dated were a waste of time.”
“What about Leo?”
Penelope looked at her. “What about him?”
“Well, he’s fine if I may say so myself, and you guys seem to be very close.” Alexis dug in her purse. “Am I wrong?”
Penelope wobbled her head, smirking. “We’re…good friends.”
“He’s single, right?”
Penelope nodded.
“You’re single.” Alexis moved things around in her purse to get to her favorite pen. “Don’t you find him attractive?”
“Lexi. It would never work with Leo and me. We’re like brother and sister.”
“I saw how he was looking at you.” Alexis got her pen and set her purse down. “I don’t think he’d look at his sister that way.”
Penelope turned toward her computer, chewing. “How was he looking at me?”
“He looked at you like he wished I wasn’t in the room.”
“Bullshit.” Penelope laughed.
“I’m telling you that he has feelings for you other than friendship.” Alexis scrolled through the criminal database files on her computer. “Sometimes it takes people outside of something to see the signals, but they’re definitely there. Did you ever ask him if he had feelings for you?”
“Just stop it, all right, Lexi.” Penelope moved papers around. “Leo and I…we don’t make sense. Trust me.”
“Well, it doesn’t look that way to me.”
“Hello?” A petite, ample-chested blonde woman stood at the cubicles. “Good morning, Detectives.”
“Amy.” Penelope smiled. “How are you? We heard you were on a trip.”
“Yeah, I visited some college friends out of town.”
“Sounds fun,” Penelope said. “Lord knows I need a vacation.” She pointed to Alexis. “Amy, you remember my partner, Alexis Adams.”
“It’s nice to see you again.” Amy smiled. “How does it feel to be back in town after nineteen years?”
Alexis faked a smile. “I’d forgotten how things work in Tate Valley.” She thought of Grant. “But, I’m slowly remembering.”
Amy smiled, nodding. “When you came to the Tate Valley Lounge with Penelope that night I was kinda busy so I didn’t get a chance to say a proper hello. I hope Penelope brings you back to the lounge soon. Come check out some of the local bands, dance, drink.” She winked. “All work and no play never does anyone good.”
Alexis smiled.
“You seem nervous.” Penelope stood. “Is everything all right?”
Amy pulled on her purse strap. “I heard about Donovan McCoy.” She sighed. “You know Jesse is the closest friend I got, and she’s helped me out of many binds.”
“I know,” Penelope said.
“I feel like a traitor coming here.” Amy took a deep breath. “My momma didn’t teach me much of anything growing up, but she taught me to always do the right thing.”
