The Secret Ingredient (Love Around the Corner) Page 17

Rolling to his side, he pulled her with him, tugging her leg up over his hip, and then allowing his fingers to curve around her bottom. Bumping his nose into hers, he curled his fingers between her legs, barely grazing her panties. First a kiss and then a stroke, repeated until she was anticipating his rhythm, rocking her hips and straining for his kiss with every move.

It was teasing. Fun foreplay like she’d never experienced before. She’d laugh if she wasn’t so shaky and short of breath.

“Jonesy, Jonesy,” he whispered against her mouth.

  “Yes, Nate.”

“You wanna play doctor with me?”

Then, she did laugh, a quick, delighted chuckle. She’d never been with such a silly man. “I thought that’s what we were doing already.”

“But we haven’t shown each other anything yet.”

June rolled onto her back to give him a look, missing the contact of his chest against hers. “I’m practically naked already.”

“Oh, you’re right. I’m way behind.” Nate grinned and shucked off his jeans so quickly she wasn’t sure he’d done it until he’d leaned over her to kiss her again. His bare and hairy legs rubbed along hers until she relented and parted her thighs to him. With a satisfied grunt, he pressed his hips into hers, his erection wedged into the hot folds between her legs.

The sensation was pleasing; June’s eyelids flickered shut, and she arched into him, her body mindlessly seeking that final connection. She pressed one hand to his chest, and his strong heartbeat vibrated right into her veins.

“There’s so much I want to do with you.”

The desire apparent in his rough voice heated her blood almost as much as his touches had. He probably knew all sorts of wild techniques. Insecurity fluttered through her. “Like what? I mean, I’m not very flexible.”

With a quick laugh, Nate stared down at her. “I wasn’t going to suggest we hang from the chandelier or anything.”

June glanced around his big shoulder at the ceiling. “You don’t have one in here.”

“Right, just a fan that rattles.” He squeezed her tight, and she leaned up to kiss him.

“So are you ready to put up or not?”

“Don’t you mean put out?” June had no idea where her raunchy reply had originated, but from the way Nate grinned at her, he liked it.

“I’ll go first, since you’re shy.” He glanced away from her, and she sensed he was pulling off his boxer briefs before he rolled closer to her, and she felt his erection against her thigh; it was warm, smooth, and firm. Her whole sex clenched in response to its proximity. Did he really want her to look? It wouldn’t be the first one she’d ever seen, but she wasn’t usually given the opportunity to inspect before the mechanics were underway.

Nate kissed her cheek, his hands coasting, in an amazingly erotic and nondemanding way, over her back and arms. She risked a look between their bodies and gasped in a shallow breath. Okay, he was really impressive. A warm weight filled her groin, and she had the instantaneous urge to spread her legs and pull him inside her aching body.

As he continued to caress her, she reached down and slid her fingertips along his silky length, which pulsed under her touch. Nate rested his hand atop hers, and she paused.

  “Do you not want—”

“I want. I want to feel you when you do it.” His voice was rough as he encouraged her. She circled her hand around him, his fingers splayed over hers as she stroked up and down, tightening and releasing against his penis as it swelled even harder.

Nate muttered under his breath and rolled to his back as she continued to hold him, his chest heaving with ragged breaths. She was filled with an arousing awareness of how much he wanted her, how much pleasure she was giving him, and the last of her inhibitions fled. Her skin prickled, and the muscles in her legs twitched.

“Show me yours,” he gasped and lifted his head, fixing a dark gaze on her. Somehow, despite the position he was in, he still managed to have a teasing tone in his strained voice.

It’s only fair. June let go of him and pushed her thumbs under the waistband of her panties, shifting her hips to pull them down and off. She’d worn her basic cotton ones even though part of her had hoped they’d end up in this situation ever since she’d met him. He watched with half-lidded eyes as she knelt next to him, completely uncovered.

“I didn’t shave. I don’t…” He was probably used to long and leggy women with perfectly depilated bodies, so her natural state was likely quite a shock.

“I like it. Get over here.” He beckoned toward his upper body, and she was confused. He was lying on his back, and he wanted her to what? Leaning his way, she hesitated, only moving once his strong hands reached out for her and guided her to straddle his shoulders, tucking her knees on either side of his head. She moved awkwardly. This position exposed her so intimately she quivered, unsure again of how he wanted her. After giving her a glance, he looked between her legs, and she fought the urge to cup a hand over herself.

“Closer.” One of his hands circled around her bottom and tilted her his way, while his other steadied against her lower belly as he leaned his head up and nuzzled right into her.

As soon as his slick tongue stroked along her sex, she jolted and would’ve fallen off the bed if he hadn’t held on. His gentle movements against her agonized nerves made her cry out and writhe with pleasure. He took his time, thoroughly exploring all of her as she gasped his name and propped herself up on her locked arms so she wouldn’t fall on him. After exquisite moments, he finally concentrated his mouth on the best spot and had her quaking and squeaking with every swirl of his tongue.

Sucking in breath after breath as tension filled her, she squinted her eyes and convulsed as the sun exploded inside her. She was barely aware of him easing his movements as she shuddered with pleasure, finally coming back to herself to find he was holding her up and breathing hard against her belly, his chest heaving under her bottom.

“Oh, you can’t breathe.” She feebly attempted to move off him, but he held her in place.

  “I like you there. Stay.”

They both caught their breath. Nate lifted her to his side where she collapsed in a loose heap of arms and legs bent at odd angles. As she slowly reorganized the world into an understandable order once again, Nate moved around, rummaging in the bedside table for a moment. She recognized a metallic ripping noise and glanced over to find he was rolling on a condom. Thrilled there was more to come, June reached for him, and he immediately responded by rolling her to his side.

His blue eyes crinkled at the corners. “Can you…are you ready?”

  * * * *

Nate was inordinately proud he’d managed to ask the question rather than just push into her sweetness like he wanted. She blinked sleepily and nodded; a smile ghosted on her full, rosy lips. Hesitating for a moment over what position was best to start, he decided tried and true was the smartest choice. Everyone had some experience at that one.

He propped himself over her, and she wrapped her arms around him. He felt her thighs sliding along his own, so he lowered his hips to hers, reaching between them to guide himself into her slick body. With clenches and pants, she let him slide inside. Sweat beaded on his temples and the small of his back as he did his best not to crush her while his hips ground into hers. She was so warm around him he felt dizzy. With a little cry, she writhed under him.

  “Okay?”

“I think…oh.” June’s face relaxed into a blissful smile, and he was suddenly consumed with the need to see her—see all of her—as he filled her. Gripping his hand around her waist, he levered himself onto his elbow and rolled onto his back, all while keeping her tight to him. Her eyes widened with surprise, and she clutched at his shoulders to keep her balance.

Now he could see her golden shoulders, her perfect breasts topped with taut, peachy nipples, and the warm curve of her belly, all while she gripped him tight in her hot sex. He couldn’t ask for any more than this moment with her. Tension filled
him as she tightened her thighs around his hips. He clenched his fingers into her soft rear and held her as he braced his heels against the mattress and moved himself in rhythmic rocks, not powering into the thrusts he wanted to administer. Slowly, carefully, he warned himself even as he increased their pace. June licked her lips and stared at him as she leaned down to press her hands against his chest. With a shake, she threw her head back and called out his name in little gasping cries.

It was too much, she was too much, and Nate surrendered to the blast of electricity jolting up from his toes, out his groin, and into June’s welcoming body. Bolt after bolt of heat thundered through him, and he twitched back onto his bed, overwhelmed and triumphant. Everything faded out as he groaned and shivered. He’d been thrown over the edge.

He came back to himself, limp with satisfaction, when he noticed June’s smooth skin against his chest, her soft hair brushing up against his chin. He reached his arms around her small body as she settled against him, wanting her to stay close until he was back to normal.

Waiting for that customary sleepy buzz to take him for a quick nap, Nate reflected that the reality of making love with June had been more fulfilling than he’d thought possible. She was funny and responsive, and the taste of her still lingered.

As he relaxed, she ran her fingertips along his shoulder, and her rhythmic strokes soothed him. He let out a breath and settled back, ready for sleep. But instead of rest, he simply stared at his popcorn ceiling, his thoughts intruding.

She’d be leaving soon. It wasn’t like they could spend the remainder of the day in bed, so there would be that awkward period of getting up, putting their clothes back on, and then goodbyes. She had family obligations; he owed his mom a shift at the bar tonight. So why did he wish it was midnight and there wouldn’t be any excuse for either of them to leave?

He must have sighed again, because June lifted her head, her honey eyes still unfocused. He slipped from her body and winced.

“I’m too heavy, I should move.”

“I can barely feel you. Stay.” He wanted to trap her in his arms, wanted her to bury her face in his neck and beg to stay longer.

“How much of that hour and twenty minutes is left?”

“I hope you aren’t implying I’m short on stamina.”

Her body shuddered as she chuckled, and he leaned up to kiss her, rubbing his hands in her wispy, soft hair.

“No, you’re fine. Great. No complaints.” June’s mediocre assessment of his skills prompted him to pinch her bottom, and she squealed in dismay.

“How about a compliment? You had fun, didn’t you?”

“Of course I did. I finally figured out the difference between boys and girls.” Her eyes sparkled as she pushed at his arms in an ineffectual attempt to escape.

“Glad I could clear that up for you. Any other universal questions bothering you?” He was trying to joke, but he was actually wondering what was going to happen next between them. June wriggled enough that she slid to his side, and he rolled so they still faced each other.

“When I drop a piece of toast, why does it always fall buttered-side down?”

“I’m ashamed to say I have no idea.”

She shrugged, and her breasts shifted against his chest. “That’s okay; I’m still a little woozy from that whole boy slash girl thing.”

Nate watched her, the mischievous glint in her eyes slowly shifting to a soft glow. She was so beautiful, and she felt so good against him he wasn’t sure what to do other than kiss her, so he did.

  “Feeling less woozy?”

  “Actually, it just got worse.”

  “Good thing you’re lying down.”

Her laugh interrupted the kiss he was trying to initiate. “I know I told you this would be fun, but I think you’re having a little too much fun, Jonesy. Concentrate.”

She sucked in a breath and drew back to look him over. “I’ve never been accused of having too much fun.”

“Then it’s well overdue. Just let me apply myself.” Anticipating some foreplay, Nate tightened his grip but stopped when June shook her head once. She pressed her lips together and squeezed her fingers into his arms.

“So, we’re having fun, just some fun, right?”

Nate paused as a cool rustle of caution came between them. “Sure.”

It was better to agree with her than get into some discussion about a topic he wasn’t sure he understood at the moment. She was fun; this whole episode had been fun. He warned himself not to push her, toward what he wasn’t sure.

“Is that what you want, to keep this fun?” he ventured, suddenly sure he’d said the wrong thing again.

“I think that’s for the best, don’t you? I mean, we’ve just gotten to know each other and we aren’t, well…” She didn’t meet his eyes as she slid her hands from his arms and gently pushed them against his chest until he relaxed his hold on her body. Once she was free of his grasp, she shifted away and sat up, modestly turning her back.

“I have a feeling your estimate of that hour and twenty minutes might not be accurate.” She made it to the edge of the bed and stood, still showing him her fragile-looking backbone. At least he got a view of her succulent rear as she bent over and collected her clothes. Once she had them in her arms, she faced him, the garments strategically held in front of her.

“I don’t think so.” Nate sat up and looked at her, wondering where that warm connection had gone.

“Well, I should be going anyway. Lots to do.” She still didn’t meet his eye as she began to untangle her underwear, with her other clothes awkwardly shoved under her arm. The idea of her leaving made him edgy, and he sat up and scooted her way.

  “Like what?”

“Uh, I…I guess I need to check my planner. I have a feeling I missed something today.” Now she gave him a glance from under her eyelashes, and then her gaze skittered down his chest and lower. Okay, she liked his body; he could work with that.

  “Did you get distracted?”

Now she did meet his eyes, and he was delighted to see her cheeks flush pink.

  “I did.”

“I’m feeling pretty focused. Let’s do this again.” He hoped he didn’t sound as eager as he felt.

Her mouth popped open. “Right now?”

He couldn’t help himself, he laughed. “I would if I could. No, I meant see each other again.”

She’d stopped dressing, and he managed to draw her back to his side of the bed by tugging gently on her hand. Telling himself not to stare at any part of her body other than her face, he concentrated on her. Her mouth was twisted up into a curl, and he longed to smooth her lips with his fingertips until she smiled again.

“You mean go out with each other. That date you mentioned.”

He nodded and waited, feeling like a fool and nervous as hell she was going to turn him down.

“I don’t know,” she hedged but didn’t pull away from his touch. He tugged her closer, and she edged up to his legs. “We’re different. I’m set in my ways—”

“Yeah, you’ve got arthritis and joint pains already, don’t you?” If she did, he was in trouble for that lame attempt at humor, but she smiled and shook her head.

“Not yet. I guess a few years aren’t such a big deal between adults. I’m always thinking kid-years.”

“A few years isn’t a big deal at all,” he soothed and tugged at her hand again. She let her bundle of clothes fall to the floor as her knees hit the edge of the bed. He could almost feel her silky skin against his again, and he desired the contact with a deep pull.

“Neither one of us have much free time.”

“But you’re great at planning out all those details.”

She shrugged at the compliment and lowered herself to the bed next to him. Better and better. Taking a risk, he reached out and grazed his fingertips up her arm, and she let out a sigh. One kiss to her cheek and she was cuddling up next to him and winding an arm around his neck. Great progress.

  “You’re
going to California.”

  “I don’t know that.”

“So you just want to do this while we can?”

“Sounds like a plan to me.” He paused and drew back to look at her, wanting her to understand his sincerity. “The world’s an iffy place. Isn’t enjoying it all anyone can really try to do?”

“I don’t know, Nate,” June said with a sigh of obvious frustration. “That’s so vague.”

His kissed her mouth until the worried little pucker disappeared and she was pressing closer to him. Mmm, breasts, belly, slim little legs curving over his.

“I mean, aren’t we supposed to have more in common?” June whispered as he lowered her back to the bed and leaned over her again. He didn’t want to call her adorable to her face, but she was, all sincere confusion in her blinking eyes while looking like a fancy cupcake brought to life. He wanted to lick every inch of her.

“What don’t we have in common? I like to cook, you like to eat. We laugh at the same things. I’m not sure about what sort of music you like, but I’m flexible. Except for death metal.”

“I like seventies pop, if you must know.” June smiled up at him and ran one fingertip in a line from his temple, down his jaw, and to his chin as she stared at him. He could handle The Carpenters and the Bee Gees. Even ABBA if it was called for.

  “I like Christmas.”

She shrugged, and he relished the slight movement of her body against his. “I do too.”

  “See? We’re compatible.”

She shook her head and frowned. “You like coffee; I prefer tea.”

He clenched her tight in mock dismay, and she let out a surprised giggle. “Tea? You never said. Why did you come over for coffee then?”

Lowering her eyelids in a sultry manner, she bit her lower lip. Nate pulled her body closer to his and relished all her soft, curvy parts. Jonesy, the elven temptress.

“Were you just being polite, or did you want to get to know me better?”

  “Both. And…”

“You couldn’t resist me.” He wished that was true, wished she was feeling as anxious to stay as he was.

Her eyes brightened with unshed tears, and worry dashed away his lighthearted teasing. “I have to.”
