She had never thrown a party before. She'd never had a birthday party, a Christmas party, any sort of party. Her Aunt Delilah hadn't wanted people to come to the house and see her queer niece with her uncanny, not-quite-human violet eyes.
She was learning how to cook and bake from Alisa and Elle, and she was having a lot of fun experimenting and whipping up interesting new dishes. She might not be able to cook very well, but her family was super supportive.
We can taste the love in your food, Gramma and Ne-ma told her when they sampled her very first dish. And nothing tastes better than food cooked with love.
Well, she could feel the love in this beautiful little house. It was a house built with love, by her mate and his brothers.
And nothing was more beautiful and more wonderful than a home filled with love and laughter.
“Thank you for making my wish come true,” she said softly, smiling through her blurring vision.
She finally had a home, a real, loving home.
Happily-ever-after wasn't something that only happened to other people.
It happened to her too.
