“Are you sure you want that information? Wouldn’t you like to just be surprised and land there and then find out?” he asked.
“Nope! I want to make sure you’re not taking me to Libya or something,” I said.
“Oh, Natalie. I wouldn’t take you anywhere like that. Think about the clues I’ve given you. Warmth, tropical weather, palm trees.”
“Disney World?” I asked excitedly.
“As much fun as that would be, no, I’m not taking you to Disney World.”
“Well then, I give up. Where is this palm tree-laced warm spot you’re taking me to?” I asked.
“We’re going to a place where we couldn’t go before: The Maldives,” he said with a smile.
The Maldives, where we were supposed to go for spring break but fatefully weren’t allowed to go because of seeing my parents. I had thought about going there since we were sucked out of the chance, and now it was becoming a reality.
“Where are we staying?” I asked with a smile.
“My friend has a beach house right on the water. He loaned it to us for our wedding present, and it’s on a resort, so we get all of the amenities, plus our own little private beach,” Roman said.
“We get our own private beach?” I asked in shock.
“Of course. It’s for the person who wants ultimate privacy, and no chance of seeing an old man in little briefs,” Roman said with a chuckle.
I sunk back into my chair as the pilots announced we were set to leave soon, and began to see visions of the island in front of me as if they were a mirage. I had never been anywhere tropical before, besides one time I went to Florida for a charity trip, and I had dreamed of being on a white sand beach, a coconut drink in my hand, and a little white bikini that wrapped my body perfectly. All of these fantasies, which were fantasies just over a year ago, were now coming true, and not only would I be going there for my honeymoon, but I’d be going with Roman, the man of my dreams.
The plane started to move and I latched my seat belt as the pilots positioned the jet on the runway and waited for the signal to go. I grabbed Roman’s hand, closed my eyes, and readied myself for takeoff, which I never really liked. The plane increased speed and I felt my body get heavier as the wheels left the ground and we flew off into the crisp and cool air.
“This is all just the beginning,” Roman said with a smile.
