To Tame A Cowgirl Page 14

His lips followed the path his fingers had made along the edge of her bikini top, his tongue dipping down her cleavage. Fingers inside one cup still teased and caressed without giving her what she longed for. She couldn’t stop the whimper that escaped or how much she ached for him to touch her properly.

“The demo was really good,” he mumbled. “Lots of new techniques. Boyd’s going to buy into it and let us know how it goes.”

Finally, he opened his mouth directly over her breast through her swimsuit. Sara would have melted down the wall except he scooped her up, holding her upright as he teased, wetting the fabric and nibbling at her nipple.

  “Buck,” she groaned.

He flipped the cup of her top up and her breast popped out underneath. He lifted the weight in his palm. “I had this great idea today.”

He lowered his mouth to kiss the slope of her breast, nudging her nipple with his jaw, denying her what she craved. “You always have the best ideas,” she breathed, hoping the idea he had was to make love to her, soon.

“I think after the conference ends tomorrow, we should stay on a few more days. Just you and me.”

He stroked her nipple with his teeth, lathed it with his tongue and pulled it into his hot mouth making her head spin.

“Oh-h-m-m-m,” she cried out as spasms jerked her body. Who’d have ever believed that something so simple would feel so incredible?

He chuckled against her skin. “Was that a yes?”

She nodded, trying to breathe normal. Every pull of his mouth echoed between her legs. She was wet with wanting him. Last night she’d wanted him. Today she was hungry, desperate and obsessed with having him. He was a new addiction.

He freed her second breast, shoving her top upwards to toy with them both. Squeezing them together, he buried his face between the mounds, tweaking both nipples until she was a molten mess of want.

“I’ll tell Cord that we’re following up on some leads and we’ll be back next weekend. We’ll drive around, see some sights and just hang out.” He gently pinched both nipples. “We haven’t gone on a vacation alone together ever, and it’s high time we did some…exploring.”

From a desire-induced haze, Sara tugged on his towel until it slid to the floor. She filled her hands with his rock solid buttocks before sliding one hand between them to touch him. “I like exploring,” she said as she held his solid length in her palm.

He jerked and shoved his hips towards her in encouragement. She pressed against him, hooking one leg around his calf and rubbing herself against his hardness.

She stroked him again while, with one hand, he pulled her bikini pants down until they were out of the way. He then cupped her between her legs as she lifted one foot and then the other to step free of them. His thumb probed and stroked her hot center and she gasped. He bent down and lifted her up into his arms kissing her thoroughly. But when she thought he’d head to his bedroom, instead he turned and set her bare bottom down on the edge of the small dinette table. He shoved the chair aside and, before she realized his intent, was on his knees in front of her. He lifted her foot, kissing the side of her ankle and began a slow torturous trail up her leg.

Sara’s body trembled. She was a bit unsure about this new tactic, but, when he reached her inner thigh and the extremely soft and sensitive area at the top of her leg, his hot breath on her felt like nothing she’d ever experienced before. Once he set his mouth against her, she lost her mind. She leaned back, braced herself on her arms and gave up everything to whatever he wanted to do. There couldn’t possibly be anything in the world that felt as amazing as what he was doing to her.

Long moments went by as she flew higher than she dreamed possible, the waves crashing through her body made her scream out his name and jerk in response. As soon as they subsided, he stood and positioned himself between her legs then pulled her to the edge of the table. She wrapped her legs around him as he entered her. He wasn’t gentle as he pumped in and out and she met him thrust for thrust. She clung to him as he pounded into her and called out her name. They came together in an explosive climax.

As soon as it was over, she lay back on the table trying to catch her breath. He loomed over her. She flopped on arm across her eyes but could feel his gaze on her.

His hands stroked her knees. “You okay?”

She laughed and sat up. “You thinking you’ve worn me out?”

He pushed the loose hair out of her face and then gently pulled the elastic pony tail holder the rest of the way off.

“Come to bed with me,” he invited

Several hours later, having napped and made love and napped again. Buck lazily tracked a pattern along the smooth planes of her back. “We should probably get up for dinner.”

Sara lifted her head from his chest. “I’m not hungry.”

“Are you okay? I mean, not trying to be crude, but are you sore?” He cupped her bare bottom in his palm and rubbed the firm cheeks. He was afraid after last night and then this afternoon that he’d been too rough. He forgot that she wasn’t used to lovemaking and, to do as much as they had, she was bound to be tender in certain places.

She kissed his chest, her silky hair sliding along his skin. “I definitely found out about muscles I didn’t know I had.”

Her fingers explored downward and Buck couldn’t believe how fast she could get him hard. It was as if all she had to do was think about touching him and he was ready for her. But regardless of what she might say, she had to be sore and he wasn’t going to hurt her. He stroked her head as she slid down his body and her mouth covered his erection. Already she knew exactly how he liked to be touched, how to make him lose his mind.

He enjoyed the incredible pleasure she gave him for a few more seconds and then he skillfully guided her, turning her around until she could continue what she was doing, but he could love her in return. With her on top of him and her gorgeous feminine mound positioned where he could reach her, he slipped his tongue between the pink lips and loved her until they were both once again sated and limp.

“I wonder if Charli tried to call me about dinner. Will you grab my phone? It’s in my beach bag,” Sara called from the bathroom.

Buck had already dressed while she was finishing in the bathroom. It was early evening and they’d both decided they did need to get some dinner. In the sitting room, he smirked at the trail of her bikini and wet towels from earlier. He picked them all up and grabbed her tote bag. He found her phone and, sure enough, there was a missed call from Charli. He walked back into the bedroom. “Yeah, she called.”

“See if she left anything on voice mail,” Sara said seconds before he heard the shower turn on.

He pressed the speed dial to her voice mailbox and entered the code—she used the same PIN for everything in her life, no matter what he’d told her about security.

Charli’s voice came over the small speaker. “Hey, girlfriend. I heard you were looking for me. I finally came up for air around four.” Laughter. Buck could only imagine what or who had kept the redhead occupied all day. “I’m absolutely dying to know how things went last night. I bet old Buck was shocked to death when you came on to him. I hope you got every itch scratched and were able to learn all about some new ones. But I’m also worried about what you’re thinking today. I know you well enough to know you are kicking yourself all over the place with guilt over this whole Cord thing.”

Buck’s heart stopped and he froze. Everything in him screamed to stop listening, but he couldn’t.

“Look honey, there’s nothing wrong with fooling around all you want until you get that wedding ring on your finger. This is about you, not anyone else. You deserve all the good times you want, especially if you’re so determined to marry Cord for the family business. So you enjoy that buddy of yours some more and don’t worry about dinner with Daddy and me. We’re heading home in the morning but I don’t want to call again in case you’re tied up—and I do mean that in the hottest way possible. Ride ‘em cow
girl. See ya!”

Buck saw not only red but every other color in the rainbow. Trying to think rationally, he knew that Charli didn’t know Sara like he did. He sure didn’t like her implication that he was just convenient for Sara to spread her wings with. What if he hadn’t been on the trip with her? Would they have picked just anyone out from the convention?

No, this wasn’t about just anyone, and it wasn’t even about her sowing some wild oats. This was about what her intentions were now.

  Chapter Eleven

“What did she say?” Sara called from inside the shower.

Buck tried to find his voice. Tried to figure out how exactly to ask what he had to know as he walked into the bathroom.

Sara opened the curtain and peeked out. Her sexy grin faded. “What’s wrong?”

Still he didn’t answer, and she ducked back behind the curtain. He could see her quickly rinsing her hair and then she turned the water off, grabbed a towel off the rack and wrapped it around her body without even toweling her hair.

“What’s wrong? What happened? Are you okay?”’ She padded across the room where he leaned against the sink, his arms crossed over his chest.

“Charli left you a very interesting voice mail.”

Sara’s eyes searched his. “Why, what did she say? What’s wrong?”

“She said she didn’t want to meet for dinner.”

  “No?” Her brow furrowed.

“Nope. She thought maybe you and I would want to be alone.”

He clenched his teeth and forced himself not to let his fury out until he heard from her.

Sara’s face relaxed and she smiled up at him. “Good, now we can do whatever we want to tonight.” She reached for a towel and bent forward to wrap her hair. “Maybe we should go to that place down the road with the band. Toby Keith’s drummer’s best friend is playing there and he said—”

“Tell me what you’ve decided about the Will.” Buck glared.

She frowned and stepped back a pace. “What do you mean?”

“You know what I mean. Tell me that last night meant you’ve given up the insane idea of marrying Cord.”

Uncertainty crossed her face and set him on fire. He reached out to clasp her upper arms.

“Hey! Cut it out, let go of me,” she complained, squirming.

He held her firm. “Look me in the eye and tell me you aren’t marrying Cord!”

Sara narrowed her eyes, her face bright red. She jerked hard in his hold and, for a second, he squeezed tighter but let her go rather than get into something physical. She stormed into the bedroom. He followed right behind.

From the other side of the room, she hiked her towel up higher. “I’m not thinking about that this week.”

Buck’s eyes grew wide. “You’re not thinking about it this week meaning it’s on your agenda for next week?”

Sara tossed her head and lifted her chin. The stubbornness was setting in and he knew there was about to be a real battle. Fine. He was more than in the mood.

“I don’t know when I’m going to think about it. But not now.”

“And obviously, not last night, this morning or this afternoon either,” he yelled.

“Are you complaining? Because honestly, I don’t remember you complaining a few minutes ago or any of the other times.”

Buck’s temper was about to explode. He wanted to shove something through a wall and the only one in front of him was Sara. “What the hell game are you playing?”

“I’m not playing games. You started this. You kissed me and then—”

“Kissed you, Sara. Kissed you! Not made love with you, not...” He waved his hands in the air. “Damn it! What the hell has gotten into you?”

She tipped her head and slammed her hands on her hips. “A few minutes ago it was you. But now I see nothing but a big jackass!”

His mouth dropped open. “What was last night all about then? Why did you suddenly decide we should sleep together?”

“Why do you have to go and analyze it? Why do you have to ruin everything?”

Buck shook his head and tried to calm down, but he couldn’t think of what to do. Panic made his chest tighten. “I can’t believe you even started all that last night. I can’t believe you could do that and still think you might marry my brother.”

She crossed her arms over her chest and thrust out her chin, but he saw the hurt creep into her eyes. Maybe he needed to approach this another way. Maybe he could try to reason with her. He took a step towards her, his hand out. “Honey, you can’t seriously think that after all we’ve shared, I’m going to let you marry Cord.”

“You don’t get to make that decision.”

“Like hell I don’t,” he roared.

She narrowed her eyes and he was reminded of how she looked when she was a kid and defied her father. He threw his hands up in disgust, grabbed his T-shirt of the chair and shoved it on. Without looking back, he stormed out of the suite.

Sara sank to the carpet and wrapped her arms around her drawn up knees. She wasn’t a crier, but tears of frustration and anger stung her eyes. She drew several deep breaths. Idiot. Not her—him. He was such a big idiot. She didn’t even know what she was thinking anymore. She knew that marrying Cord wasn’t going to work. The very idea of doing what she and Buck had done with anyone else was repulsive.

But it wasn’t up to Buck to tell her what to do with her life. He wasn’t declaring his forever love for her. He wasn’t saying that he knew she loved him too and they’d figure this all out together. No, he was bellowing as if he suddenly owned her. Did he think that because they’d slept together he could now tell her what to do as if she was his possession?

Her temper flared again as she stood and got dressed. She had no clue where Buck had gone or when he was coming back, but she wasn’t about to sit around and wait for him. By the time he cooled off and came back ready to apologize, she’d be out enjoying herself.

But several hours later, after having tried to kill as much time as she could, he hadn’t returned. When midnight came and went and he still wasn’t back, she packed her things. The hell with him. If he wanted to pout and stay out all night, let him. She set her suitcase by the door and went to bed. Tomorrow morning, bright and early, he better be ready to get on the road.

Close to two in the morning, she heard him come in. She closed her eyes tight in case he came to her room but he didn’t. She heard him go to bed and then it was quiet. Her heart ached with disappointment. She’d held hope he’d walked off his temper and was ready to apologize.

She and Buck had fought before—they both had explosive tempers. Usually once they cooled off, though, they were fine. This felt different. There was more involved this time than simply who was right and who was wrong. She curled up in a ball and tried to block out the memory of last night. His muscular chest had been her pillow, his heart the lullaby that lulled her to sleep. For twenty-five years, she’d slept alone. Now, after one night with him, she already missed sleeping in his arms. How could he think she would do that with him if she was still thinking of marrying Cord?

Yes, giving up control of her half of the ranch was going to be a tough pill to swallow, but if it meant that she could have what she had with Buck, then it was worth it. Somehow she’d adjust and get used to someone else making decisions about her family’s business.

What was Buck doing? Was he awake? What would he do if she crawled into his bed and snuggled up to him? Would he push her away? Or would he tell her he was sorry and hold her until they both fell asleep?

She frowned. Why should she be the one to go to him? He stormed out. He didn’t even come back and try to talk to her. No, it wasn’t up to her to make the first move, this was his problem. He thought he knew her so well, obviously he didn’t.

Her mood worsened as the night dragged into dawn and she finally climbed out of bed.

Buck was reading the newspaper and drinking coffee when she came out of her room. He glanced over then back at his paper.
Good. I want to get on the road.”

Sara poured herself a cup of coffee. “I thought we were going to stay an extra few days.”

Buck’s pointed gaze drifted to her suitcase by the door. “No you didn’t. I have things to do and want to get back, so drink up and let’s go.”

Sara obstinately sipped her coffee. “Who died and left you boss?” she asked to be nasty.

Buck folded his newspaper neatly and stood, pushing in the chair to the dinette table. Warmth spread through her face remembering what they’d done on that table less than twenty four hours earlier.

He shrugged. “Take a plane home then, but I’m leaving in thirty minutes with or without you.”

He walked into his room and shut the door. She glared, half ready to take him up on the idea or, heck, maybe she’d stay here. How would he like that?

  ****

Buck kept his attention on the road and did everything he could to ignore his passenger. It wasn’t really all that difficult considering she kept her eyes firmly glued straight ahead and wasn’t speaking to him either. Less than a week, five days, was all they’d been gone. When they left, she was mad at him because he was going with her, and now going home, he was the one angry. Although, from the rigidness of her posture, she was just as pissed off.

Tough. He’d had a long time on his own to think last night and he’d come to the conclusion that he could play this game just fine. She had set out to have a good time and that’s what he gave her, just like any other woman he’d had a fling with—usually a bit more cordial when it ended, but he just couldn’t bring himself to make pleasantries right now.

Two hours into the trip, she must have been seething inside because she turned and blurted, “I can’t believe you ruined the rest of the trip!”

Buck shrugged. “I’ve got no regrets. You were great, I had a blast. I told you that. Hell, babe, we both got what we wanted. Wasn’t that the goal you and Charli discussed? Get it out of your system so you can do your family duty and marry Cord.”
