  Kaitlin clung to his leg as the shockwaves blew through the trees, the huge noise of the explosion still echoing around the place like thunder.

  Rubble rained down over the trees like an asteroid storm, crashing through the branches and thumping to the forest floor.

  We did it, Black…

  "Can we go now, Daddy?"

  Edger looked down at his daughter, grateful beyond words that he had somehow managed to save the one person who meant the most to him in his life, the one person who deserved saving in this whole damn shitstorm. He leaned down and lifted her up into his arms. "Let's go."

  "Where do we go now, Daddy?"

  Edger hugged his daughter tighter to him. "Home, love. We go home."
