I stepped in and sat down, and now it wasn’t my panties that were wet, but it was his drawstring shorts. I was going commando.
I shut the door and leaned my head out, deciding to leave him with a parting thought to rival the one he’d left me.
My voice was super husky when I spoke. “Hey Justin. Your shorts are all damp inside.” I put the key in the ignition and started her up. “Night honey.”
I looked at him right as I put the car in drive and he was standing there with his mouth hanging open. I gave myself an internal high five.
********
Justin called after I was in bed. I had gotten home and had just completed my thorough dental hygiene when my cell phone rang. I climbed into bed as I answered it.
“Hi baby. Can you do me a favor and not balk at what I’m going to ask you to do?”
“Um sure. I guess so. What is it?” I answered.
“Now swear you’ll answer me honestly.”
“Okay.”
“Do you own a vibrator?”
Okay, why the hell would he want to know that?
“Well yeah. Why?”
“Go get it please.”
“But...”
“Terri, you said you wouldn’t balk. Remember?”
Good gracious, where the hell was this going?”
“Yeah, okay.”
I walked to my dresser and pulled out my handy dandy rabbit.
“I’m back,” I said.
“Great. Take off your panties Terri.”
Oh hell no!
“Now?”
“Yes, Terri, now.”
I slipped my panties off.
“Are they off?”
“Uh huh.”
“Okay. Good. Now baby, turn on your vibrator. Hold it up to the phone so I can hear it, okay?”
“Justin, this is way too weird for me. I can’t do this.”
“Yes you can baby. You can do it for me.”
I turned on the vibrator. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew I was going to like this because it was going to turn him on. I didn’t care that it was weird or kinky. This was going to be fun.
“Okay, can you hear it?”
Hell, the neighbors could probably hear it. And then I heard him laughing.
“Um, that’s pretty loud honey. Don’t they make quieter ones? Like maybe ones with a muffler?”
“Why don’t you do some research and then buy me a new one Justin? I don’t know if they make quieter ones. What kind of a question is that?”
“I was just curious. Don’t get mad at me.”
“I’m not mad. This is my trusty old vibrator and you’re hurting his feelings.”
“His?”
“Yes, his. You don’t think I’d have a female vibrator do you?”
“Hmm, I never thought about that. Well then, I’m going to have to call him JJ.”
“JJ?”
“Yes. Justin Junior.”
“Ah, I see. So JJ is up and running Justin. What now?”
“Yes, he is, isn’t he? I can still hear him.” I heard a chuckle. “I think he needs to be where I want to be but I can’t, because you decided you wanted to go home. So Terri, I want you to put JJ where I want to be. Do you know where that is?”
I decided to be a little humorous and said, “In my butt Justin?”
He paused for a moment. “Hmm. I hadn’t thought about that Terri, but, now that you mentioned it.”
I gasped. “Oh my God, I was just kidding!”
“You know Terri, many a truth are said in jest.”
Holy shit! He can’t think I want to do that!
“Justin, I do NOT want to do that. JJ will not be going there. Ever!”
“Okay, Terri, then where else does JJ want to be?” he chuckled.
“Between my legs?” I squeaked out.
“Why don’t you show me Terri? Oh, and Terri, I’ll know by the sound of your breathing whether or not you really put JJ where I tell you to.”
I put JJ between my legs and honest to God, I was moaning and purring to Justin on the phone. He was asking me things and I was answering but I can’t remember what the hell he was talking about because JJ had me coming all over the place, damn him.
After a few of those, I finally heard Justin say, “Terri, you can turn little JJ off now. I think he’s really tired and needs some rest. I think you might too. You’ve had a busy evening, haven’t you?”
I mumbled something back right before I ended the call and fell soundly asleep.
CHAPTER SEVEN
Justin
Well, that little game I played with Terri may have been fun for her, but it left me frustrated for quite a while afterwards. I should’ve stayed on the phone and just driven over to her place. But no, I wanted to respect her wishes. I was being the considerate guy. I wouldn’t be seeing her tonight either because I was on call. Maybe she would be pulling JJ out on her own then. I had to laugh at the way I named her vibe, JJ. I was going to get her a new one though. That thing sounded like a damn chain saw cutting through a pine tree.
Forcing my mind back on track, I looked at my schedule and groaned out loud. One of the nurses heard me and laughed. “Your whole week is like that Dr. Middleton.”
“Thanks for rubbing it in Destiny.” She smiled. She’d been flirting with me for months now. Blond and blue eyed, she was attractive, I supposed. Nothing compared to Terri though.
“Sorry. You’re really booked up though. I don’t know who did the scheduling, but you need to talk to them. I’m not sure how you’re going to handle it. And you have call tomorrow too.”
Now that’s weird. How would she know I have call? Is she hacking into my schedule or something?
“Thanks for your concern, but I can handle it. This is nothing compared to my days as a fellow.”
“So I hear. I’d love for you to tell me sometime. Over some drinks maybe?”
I smiled and said, “Oh. I thought you knew. I’m dating someone.”
She got this weird look on her face and her eyes darkened.
“Oh no. I didn’t. Anyone I know?”
“I doubt it. Thanks anyway though.” I moved along to the locker room. I had a bad feeling about her. I don’t know why. I would ask Jackson and Robert if they knew anything. I changed into my scrubs and headed over to the OR.
My first case wouldn’t be bad. I was assisting in a hip replacement. It was a redo. The first one had gone bad...resulted in a splintered femur neck. It was a mess from beginning to end. The patient was a forty year old female leukemia survivor. She’d had the disease when she was a kid, but all the drugs had pretty much destroyed her bone density. Now she was on her second set of hips. Anyway, I was helping to reconstruct the neck of her femur. When I finished here, I was going to change all my passwords in my computer here.
********
I headed to my computer as quickly as my feet would get me there. Something was troubling me about what Destiny said. I logged in and went directly to my account and changed my password. Then I went to my activity log and checked it and noticed that my account had been accessed several times that morning while I had been in surgery.
I called security and had them flag my account. I wanted to find out what was going on. I had my suspicions but I wanted confirmation.
When I finished giving them all the information they needed, I made my way back to the OR for my next case. I passed Destiny on the way and she gave me an odd look. It may have been my suspicions, but I thought it was funny nevertheless.
My next case was a nineteen year old male that reminded me of Terri. He was a College of Charleston student that had been out late partying and had decided he’d wanted to get something to eat. He’d crossed a busy road and had been hit by a drunk driver. His leg had been crushed in the resulting accident and we were going to piece him back together today. We were on round three.
Jackson was assisting me and we would be tied up here for several hours.
“Are you busy after
we’re through here,” I asked him.
“No, I was planning on grabbing a quick bite.”
“Can I stop by your office for a second?”
He looked up at me and our eyes connected. “Everything okay?” he wanted to know.
“I don’t know yet, but I’ll let you know.”
“Family?”
I knew he was worried about me and I didn’t want to give him a false impression. I’d gone through a rough patch. Hell, I’d almost ruined my career after the accident last spring.
“No! All’s great where it counts Jackson. This is something totally different.”
“Okay. Don’t give an old man a scare, kid.”
He always called me that, even though he was only in his early fifties. He treated me like a son and he had my complete respect. He was a master of an orthopedist and the guy was brilliant.
“Right. You’d give me a run for my money any day. You’ll never be old Jackson. By the way, thank Alice for me for getting Terri in today. Man, you should see her eyes. That waterproof mascara really did a number on her.”
We bantered like that until we had the puzzle of bones back in place and then we plated and screwed the patient back together. When Jackson closed, he remarked, “You have a gift Justin. I mean that. You’re remarkable. You know exactly where and when to move and place. I don’t know...in all my years doing this, I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“Aw, gee man, are you aiming for a kiss or something?”
We were walking out of the OR and removing our gloves when he said, “Buddy, if I were gay, I’d definitely be going for the likes of you.”
Several people overheard him and the whole room broke out in laugher.
“Well, doesn’t that just make a guy all warm and fuzzy?” I turned to Jackson and kissed him on the cheek, which made everyone start howling even louder. Then I had to put the whipped cream and cherry on top by adding, “I’ll be damned if I’m letting you get the last word in buddy!” at which I slapped him soundly on the ass.
********
“So what’s up?” Jackson asked as I walked into his office.
After explaining the whole schedule thing with Destiny and how my account had been accessed during my first case that morning, he, too, was suspicious.
“You did the right thing by calling security.”
“The way she looks at me. It’s scary Jackson.”
“Oh come on Justin. She just a nurse with the hots for you.”
Shaking my head, I said, “I don’t know. I have this really weird feeling about her. A lot of women have had the hots for me but none of them have hacked into my account before.”
“True. Well, at least you’re on to her so you can be careful around her and what you say. I wouldn’t mention Terri’s name or anything.”
“Good point. And I gave Destiny’s name to security.”
“I’ll be on the lookout too. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know.”
“Thanks.”
Making my way to the cafeteria, I grabbed my phone and decided to call my girl.
Christ! Since when did I start thinking of Terri as my girl?
Maybe I needed to pull back a bit. This whole thing between us was moving at light speed. She certainly hit my buttons in the right way. Damn, just thinking about her gave me a chubby. Thank God I had put on a lab coat. These damn scrubs didn’t hide a whole lot.
Her phone rang twice before that kitten voice said, “Hi.”
“Hi back to you.”
“How’s your day going?”
“Busy. I’ve got back to back cases all day. I don’t know who did my booking this week but I might have to strangle that person. Complicated cases too. I won’t be home until late. And I’m on call tomorrow night.”
“Oh.”
Was that disappointment I detected? It sure sounded like it to me.
“I miss you honey.”
“I miss you too. I guess I’m gonna have to sleep with JJ tonight then, huh?”
“Looks that way babe.”
“Okay. I hope JJ is up to the task.”
I laughed. “Well, if he’s not, then you’ll be in the same boat as I am.”
“Oh, how’s that?”
“You’ll just have to resort to manual labor.”
I think she spit out her coffee or something. I heard her sputter and then start coughing.
“Terri, are you all right?”
No answer, but I heard more coughing.
“Terri? Honey are you okay?”
Cough, cough, cough, cough.
“Honey?”
“Justin! Don’t do that to me right when I take a drink of something. I almost choked on my water!”
I just laughed at her. “Um Terri, you have to remember something.”
“What?”
“I can’t see what you’re doing right this minute, so I didn’t know you were taking a drink of something.”
“Well, don’t do it anyway.”
“Okay honey. Well, I gotta go. I’ll call you later tonight.”
“Okay, bye.”
We both ended the call and I grabbed a sandwich from the cafeteria. I ate it on the move because by the time I got back to the OR they’d be ready for me.
********
I left the hospital at nine. I was beat. A shower...that’s all I wanted was a hot shower. The water pounded on my tense neck and shoulders until it started to get cool. Drying off as I walked down the steps, I grabbed whatever I could get my hands on to eat. There would be no cooking tonight. My hunger wouldn’t allow for it. A sandwich, some fruit, a yogurt, chips, a few cookies and a salad later, I was finally satisfied.
Taking the towel from around my waist, I tossed it into the bathroom and brushed and flossed. Then I crawled in between the sheets. My phone was on the nightstand so I hit her number. She answered right away.
“Are you home at last?”
“Yeah. Got here about nine thirty but I was dirty, tense and starved so I had to shower and eat. Now I’m in this huge bed all alone, thinking of you.”
“Hmm. Same here.”
“So how was your day?”
“Well, I’m allergic to waterproof mascara.”
“Imagine that.”
“Yeah. Alice was great. Thanks for referring me. She gave me some cream and told me what to use to take that stuff off with if I ever have to use it again. She said if I would’ve gotten it off that night, I probably would’ve been okay.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, but instead, I ended up with a family of furry critters and swollen lids instead. Oh well. I can’t wear eye make up for two weeks.”
“I’m sorry babe.”
“I’m not. I hate that crap anyway.”
I laughed. Any other girl I knew would’ve called in sick to work. Not Terri. She was happy not to have to wear the stuff. “That’s my girl!”
“So I’m your girl huh?”
Oh fuck! Did I really just say that?
My voice just climbed all the way up my ass and then some. I couldn’t find the damn thing anywhere.
In a tiny voice she said, “It’s okay Justin. You don’t have to answer that. In fact, I didn’t want you to answer it.”
Now didn’t that just make me feel like a shit storm? Where the hell did my goddamn voice go?
“Justin, I think it’s time we both went to sleep. It’s been a really long day for you and for me too.”
Her voice trembled ever so slightly at the end. I heard it and it made me want to bang my head against the wall. She didn’t want me to hear it but I did nevertheless. I wanted to say something, but by now, my stupid ass had been so fucking lame ass quiet, I didn’t know how to start. So I did the next stupidest thing I knew to do. I said, “I think that’s a good idea. Good night Terri.” And I ended the call.
What the hell! How fucking stupid can a person beeee??? I am a goddamn moron.
I knew I should call her right back and if you would’ve asked me why I
didn’t, I never could’ve told you the answer. The only real thing I knew was I was scared. Because I was a head case chicken shit lame ass piece of crap for a man. Wait! I was no man. No man would ever do this. And I just did it...to the girl who I had six months to win. Six months of a trial run before she would tell me to take a hike forever. Six months...and I had just messed up big time.
CHAPTER EIGHT
Terri
The call ended and the phone sat in my hand, like some alien creature. The thing is, I was surprised the damn thing didn’t come alive and bite my nose off or something.
What the hell had just happened? Why did I ask him that question? I didn’t even mean anything by it...it had just popped out of my big old stupid mouth. When would I ever learn to grow a freakin’ filter? Crap in a freakin' hat!
I punched the pillow with my hand and plopped down with a puff. My belly was contorted up like a bunch of knots. Dad taught me to tie all these marine knots when I was young. He used to take me fishing on his boat. My stomach felt like that rope he used when he tied the boat off at the dock...all twisted around those cleats.
There was no way I could sleep now so I threw off my covers and got out of bed. Shiz! Why can’t someone invent one of those cool time machines you see in the movies, because I’d like to have one right now. I’d turn it back thirty minutes and shut my stupid trap. My imagination was on fast forward with all sorts of scenarios Justin was most likely thinking right now. There was no doubt he thought I was one of those clingy girls that had to have their guy constantly validating how important they were to him. Double shiz! There I went again. He was not my guy! I didn’t have sole claim to him or anything. We had not even gotten close to that point and I wasn’t ready for that. What the hell happened to our six month arrangement, for Christ’s sake? We were on, what, day four? And here I was calling him my guy! Get a grip Mitchell!
My head, neck and back felt like a two ton elephant was laying on it. I rubbed the hell out of it and stretched it this way and that, trying to alleviate the ache that had just moved in. Grrr!
