However, in another book, the author Anthony Cronin mentions a similar ‘misunderstanding’ involving the fourteen-year-old son of a painter and novelist whom Brendan was accused of molesting while he was alone with him during a house party. In that case, according to the book, Brendan’s claim that the boy was upset because they had been having an intense discussion about the existence of God was accepted at face value.
