Alpha Attraction
Chapter One
The red rays of the setting sun bathed the car’s wet windows, creating an atmosphere of warmth. I was enjoying the heat on my face and slowly awakening from my dream.
In the front seat, Anton was driving towards the low sun, while Nina was talking to him, or at least that was how I left them before falling asleep. Now, the music was nothing more than a deep hum and instead of speaking, there were whispers exchanged between them. The moment I realized what was going on, I wished I was still asleep, as I saw Nina reaching over and kissing Anton’s throat, with tongue and everything, while he was still driving.
She was earnestly marking her territory, sucking happily on the spot where his jaw meets his neck and nipping at the sensitive pulse point. The barely there “Nina, I’m driving!” was lacking any conviction, especially if you looked at his hand resting on Nina’s knee and the way the Anton’s body leaned into hers.
“For God’s sake,” I thought. “They can’t keep their freaking hands off each other even when driving.” I pushed myself up in the backseat, without being noticed and considered my next move. My tolerance had its limits and truth be told, I was more than a little jealous of the tenderness they shared.
However, although I tried not to be disturbed by the make out session going on in the front seat, when Anton let his head fall back, shutting his eyes and moaning in pleasure, I decided that enough was enough.
I cleared my throat and said, “Anton, could you please keep your eyes on the road. I still have things to live for.” Nina’s lips sprang from her skin like it was on fire, while Anton grabbed the wheel with two hands. “And Nina,” I added for good measure, “if you could refrain from physically attacking him while I’m conscious or, you know, while he is driving, I will very much appreciate the effort.” Their combined tortured looks were the only answer to my sarcastic comments, but that was enough for me to consider apologizing later.
So, as this memory sprang to life to torture me, in two words you could describe me as a lonely, resentful woman, who has many things to be proud of, but forces herself to live without love. In my mind, I have always compared women’s lives to the existence of the leaves. It is somehow different with men, but for a woman the real life starts with the first love, the first kiss, passes through the sunny days of motherhood and ends in the embrace of the loved ones. The leaves, in a similar fashion, start their lives with the coming of the spring, receive their first kiss from the sun, enjoy the hot summer days and end up all together scattered under the trees. So, the fallen leaves tell many stories, some of love, others of suffering and sacrifice, but they all come from a real life experience and prepare for the next step.
Similarly, a woman is able to live in love and in hate, in joy and in sadness; she is what the poets call the heart of humanity, always ready to fight for her love and against her fate. The saddest thing in the world is a woman without love. Have you ever seen one? Do not make the mistake to look only for the so exalted romantic love. Love has different forms, shapes and colors; it is just like the fallen leaves – whole, broken, beautiful, ugly, eternal and transitory. Then, have you ever seen a woman in love?
Chapter Two
Red, brown, yellow, black, the colors are quickly changing before my eyes… It’s been almost five years, but to me it seems that only yesterday I left the mountain. The smell is too strong and familiar. How can I ever forget? How, my God, a person forgets something that is part of her own self? And believe me; this mountain with the colorful carpet, made from fallen leaves is not helping the process of forgetting. The truth is it only makes me remember more – the long carefree nights spent running; the heartfelt talks with friends and family; the beauty of the friendship that I thought would last forever... How could I forget!?
So, here I am; the first born daughter of the clan Belota. The renegade, the outspoken, the girl that chose to run. Five years ago, I simply took few things and left without saying goodbye to anybody else but my closest family. Today I have to face the whole clan and see their disappointment towards me. Nothing in my young life could have prepared me for this moment. Family is never easy to deal with and my family is especially hard to face.
The return to the car took me longer that I expected and by the time I reached it, I was heavily breathing. The shifting took me no time at all, and my clothes were where I left them. Oh, I forget to mention – I AM A WEREWOLF. Funny, isn’t it? In a world where everybody is in love with the horror or romantic side of the monster movies, werewolves actually exist. I have been living among the humans, read books about my kind and listened to stories and theories, how that is even possible, since I was born. Actually, the answer is very simple – we are people, who can turn into wolves, whenever we want to. There are no bites, moons or any other horror details that make you become one. The simple truth is that you are either born one or not. There are a few clans scattered on the Balkan Peninsula and that’s it. The idea, created by movies and TV shows about us, is mostly exaggerated and unrealistic. The only thing that distinguishes the werewolf from the human is his or her ability to become a wolf, whenever he or she desires to. With the real wolves, we have little in common, apart from the looks and reinforced senses. It is true, we can smell, see, run, fight and so on, like wolves, but we certainly will not eat raw meat or live in a hole (although some of us may deserve to).
An almost imperceptible movement on my right side snatched me out of my thoughts. A little sniffling, however, told me immediately that there was no danger and I simply smiled, imagining Ivan hidden in the bushes watching me.
“Hi! I could honestly say that when I thought of coming home, I never expected you to be the first one greeting me!” The young, well built man who came out of the bush, had been one of my best friends for many years, but I was afraid that my sudden and unexpected disappearance might have made him resentful towards me.
“Hi, Katya. How nice of you to finally come back.”
“Oh, stop it,” I said angrily, “you are simply mad at yourself that you never had the courage to run, as I did.” I had known Ivan my whole life and was too well aware of his dreams and fears. At seeing his face paling at my words, however, I felt guilty for ever saying them.
“Sorry, I wasn’t trying to hurt you. Just… it is so unfair of them to force us into a life we do not want to live.” Knowing my family’s ideas of law, family and marriage, I had no doubt that I was summoned back to be forced into some kind of commitment. “You know something?”
“You know, the usual,” he said with his characteristic deep voice, which I had really missed during the years. “They are going to marry you off.”
“No!” I cried and almost stamped my feet down as a spoiled kid would. “I’m certainly not marrying someone only because my clan says so.” My father was in for a big surprise, if he expected me to simply go with the flow.
“Calm
down, your future husband is also against this arrangement, and considering who he is, there is always the possibility everything will simply blow out.” The way Ivan kept looking at me made me suspicious.
“So, who is he? Stop grinning like an idiot and tell me.”
“Mihail!”
If there was a name in the world able to freeze me, this was the one. I suppose, it was obvious to Ivan that I barely stayed upright, considering his fast movements towards me and the outstretched hand that supported me. “Mihail!” – My lips seemed to have their own mind and I wasn’t able to stop them from saying the name again and again. Ivan was silently staying there, holding me to his chest and slowly petting my hair. Of all the people in the world, he was the only one ever suspecting of my feelings for Mihail. For the rest of the clan, Mihail and I were best friends, always ready to make some trouble, but never romantically interested in each other, unless you consider that night five years ago, when………..
***
The man was hot and perfect, and although I knew in my sub consciousness that he wasn’t real, I couldn’t refuse the pleasure of losing myself in him. Just then some noise from the fireplace awoke me and I wasn’t at all surprised to find my hand shoved down my pajama bottoms. While I slowly drifted into consciousness, I heard Mihail snoring softly next to me. I stilled my hand guiltily. Never before I have done something like that with someone else in the room. For crying out loud, I was still a virgin! I definitely shouldn’t be doing it, with my best friend in the bed, but my hips arched into my palm in their own accord, and it felt so damned good. The bathroom was so far away, and anyway, it’s not like Mihail would ever know about it. My hand felt so good once the decision was made and I slowly settled into a rhythm that made my whole body tingle.
At least until another hand slipped inside my pajamas, and I heard Mihail mumbling, “I got you, baby!”
I froze, while three distinct thoughts passed through my mind: first, Mihail was still asleep; second, he was apparently used to having horny girls in his bed; third, he was used to dealing with the problem at hand. His hand slid up and down my most private place, and my clouded mind provided me with yet more unwanted information – Mihail’s hand felt really good.
Mihail made a sleepy noise and ran his free hand up my side, making my whole body tremble and finally flipping the switch. I pulled away, turning my back to my best friend. Shaking and still very horny, I was angry with myself for almost taking advantage of my sleeping friend. What was wrong with me?
Before I could even consider the answer to that question, Mihail pressed his body against my back, his hand reaching urgently towards my pants, and his erection hard and hot against my ass. I shoved his hand away, but he returned like a heat-seeking puppy. The elbow in his stomach, however, did the work.
“Ah, what was this for?” Mihail demanded, sitting up in bed.
“A little personal space, please!” I answered between my teeth. The silence that followed was long and heavy in the fire lit room. “Okay!” Was all the answer I got and my expectation to hear him going back to sleep was not met, when he continued with, “I’m sorry, Katya!”
That’s new! I couldn’t even remember when was the last time he even bothered apologizing to me, and now with that voice! I heard him getting up and going into the bathroom. The running water almost masked the noises, but I still could hear him splashing his face. Then, silence and slow steps towards the door.
“Mihail?” I called softly.
“Go back to sleep, Katya.” Mihail’s voice sounded broken.
I kind of snorted and got out of bed myself. The room was lit only by the dying fire, but the light was enough for me to see Mihail going towards the door.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Going to sleep,” he answered with a slight movement of his shoulders.
“Outside?” I asked incredulously.
Today had been a busy day, and with all the guests and family members, coming and going, the rooms in the old house were insufficient. Mihail and I have been sharing rooms and beds since kids and no one thought twice about the current arrangement – best friends and all. However, outside this bedroom, there was no other free bed or sofa, and if Mihail refuses to sleep here he would end up sleeping in a chair.
“The chairs in the dining room are comfy.” His voice low and somehow sarcastic. “Now go back to bed and let me get some sleep myself.”
I shook my head and asked. “Mihail, this is crazy. Please, tell me what the problem is?”
Mihail laughed and glared at me. “You want to know what the problem here is?
I glared at him in return, the duh silent, but loud enough for him to hear.
“Ok, here it is….” With us it was always a challenge and Mihail was taking this situation as one, as well. “I swore to myself, I would cut my hand off, before ever touching you. As you know only too well yourself, I went overboard without even knowing I was doing it, so the only thing I can do now is make sure it never happens again. Okay? Is that enough of an answer for you?”
“Not so much,” I snapped back. “Mihail, you can’t sleep in a chair all night.” And then I seemed to replay what he had just said. “Wait, you wanted to touch me?”
He turned abruptly and almost fell in his haste to reach the door. “I’m going now.”
“You are such an idiot,” I said and stepped forward, pressing my hand over the crotch of his boxers. The softness and heat I felt beneath my open palm wasn’t something I was expecting, but the feeling was gone too quickly with Mihail taking a step back. He stumbled back and nearly fell over his own feet. “What, what are you doing?”
“I am simply evening the score, you moron.” I cried and watched his face going through a number of expressions – surprise, exasperation, hope!?
“Katya, you can’t simply…”
And then I did something that surprised even me, I leaned forward and kissed Mihail on the mouth. The kiss was soft, just my lips touching his surprised ones. He pulled back and perplexedly cleared his throat.
I never gave him the chance to speak. “And now we are not!”
“Not what?” he asked, looking at me as if he has never seen me before.
“Even,” I explained to him, as I would to a small child. “Do you what me to go and sleep on the chair now?”
Mihail shook his head, the frustration visible in his eyes. “Do you want me gone?” His angry glare was more than enough of an answer. The ‘Don’t be an idiot!’ kind of glare.
My next question, however, was so unexpected that he almost lost his words. “You want me to do it again?”
“Do it again?”
“Okay,” I said, taking his answer as an invitation rather than the plea for understanding it was. This time I opened his mouth with my lips and slid my tongue inside.
“Right, you made your point, okay?” Mihail said, and pushed me away, but I had other ideas and shook my head with barely a smile on my lips. “Apparently, not well enough.” I leaned in for another kiss. The moment my tongue stroked his again, Mihail gasped a little, and for a long, aching minute he kissed me back. When he pulled back once more, Mihail asked pleadingly. “Katya, what is this?”
Trying for humorous, rather than serious, I said. “And you say I’m oblivious. Come on!” I pushed and tugged him back to the bed and sat down, placing my hand on his hip. He shoved it away with an annoyed gesture. “Seriously, what’s going on?”
I just smiled up at him and replaced my hand on his hip, tracing the waistband of his boxers with a delicate finger. The breath Mihail sucked in was unsteady and his words showed how insecure he felt. “If this is a game to you, it’s not funny at all.”
“I am not playing.” My words were said with such conviction that even Mihail fell silent for a moment.
“Then why are you doing this?” Good question, but the answer wasn’t very clear even to me at this particular moment. Later, I thought about the man, who was my best friend, my brother, my p
rotector, the only person in the world who understood me and loved me no matter what. Mihail was handsome, gentle, funny – all a woman may ever desire, but I have never considered him in a romantic way. I was so used to him being around that I thought of him as part of myself, and a very important part of that. The fact, that the rest of my family was looking at him in the same way, had strengthened my conviction that Mihail and I were one soul in two bodies.
To say that what was happening now was unexpected was to say too little. But I wanted it to happen, I really did. Who better than Mihail to unveil for me the mystery of sex? I loved him, I believed in him and I knew that he will never hurt me. So, here I was almost forced him into sex, in the sweetest way possible.
“Don’t you get it?” I demanded. “I want this. I want you. And if what you said before meant that you simply thought about me occasionally, out of idle curiosity, then you’d better say it right now.”
“Katya,” he said, “You know that we can’t do this…”
I leaned in and kissed him softly on the mouth. “Yes, we can, if we both want it.” I felt his muscles jump under my hands, when I tugged the waistband of his boxers down. Surprisingly, he did not move. His eyes, however, were digging holes into mine, speaking volumes about what he thought about my actions. He wanted me, but he was afraid of the consequences; he was ready to give in, but only because I was taking the lead; his hands were burning to touch, but he was determined to let me do the work, and stop the moment I wanted to. Oh, God, how much I loved this man!
I made him lie down on the bed and took his boxers all the way down. The flickering light of the fire was more than enough for me to see his erection curving towards his belly. My determination to make this happen gave me the courage to lean down and kiss it. Mihail gasped. I licked my lips and kissed the wet tip of his cock once again.
“You don’t have to do this…” I ran my tongue up the underside of his scalding cock and Mihail’s sentence finished in a whisper. He moaned breathlessly and his hips were arching more urgently towards my mouth. This was all new to me, to say that I had no idea what I was doing was an understatement, but he was obviously enjoying it and that was enough for me.
