“Are you being smart?”
“No, Diamond, my head is hurting. I’m on my way home to lay down for a little bit.”
“All right I’ll see you when you get here.”

Chapter 11
Diamond
Love Lockdown
Since that last incident with Trice a couple of weeks ago things with Black and me had been better. I decided that I wasn’t about to let him slip away or waste my time fighting with some chick that he didn’t even want. In all actuality she wasn’t any competition. There wasn’t a chick around as fly as me. Yeah, she had his baby but I had his heart and I wasn’t letting it go no matter how hard I had to fight to keep it. I realized how much his son meant to him and I wasn’t trying to stand in the way of that but I had to get him where I wanted him. When it came to planning, I was the queen. Shit, she could try but I had a defense for every attack in the book. So I sat around thinking of a way that I could grab him hook, line, and sinker. I came up with the answer: having his child. I had never thought of having a child before now but I knew how much that meant to him. I wanted to keep the kind of control that Trice had. Shit, even if we weren’t together he’d still be around. Unlike Trice, I didn’t need him for money, I needed him for power. What we had took both of us to maintain. When Kemp died I was left with properties and numerous businesses, including an auto-body shop, a few corner stores, a barbershop and hair salon. Though I had more than enough money to keep up living the lavish life we were used to, Black needed to be in control. It’s sort of like a boy waiting his whole life to run the family business. Black waited in the wings for the chance to walk in Kemp’s shoes and now that the door was wide open there was no way I could pull him away from it. Honestly, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to. There were some things about the business that I didn’t like—the women, the late nights, and the threats. But just as I hated those things I loved the fact that it made him happy to finally be in charge. He was in his element, no longer having someone telling him what to do and how high to jump. I could never understand how he worked for Kemp as long as he had but I guess his loyalty meant more.
Finally knowing my family was also something that pushed me toward having children because family was more important to me now than ever. Now that I had a family I didn’t want to let go.
I was on birth control for as long as I could remember. When I ended up knocked up as a teen my mom put me on pills. In a way, I was glad because I loved my life too much to have to deal with a child back then. I stopped taking my pills consistently right after the last argument we had about Trice. I’d flush one down the toilet every other day so he wouldn’t find out that I wasn’t taking them. I knew that it would take some time for them to work but I knew when I was most fertile and I made sure that we got it in during that time.
Two months went by and I was still getting my period. I was pissed. I felt like the longer this dragged on the possibility of it happening was slimmer. I decided to let Kiki in on my plan. It was hard for me to keep her in the dark. I pretty much told her everything even when I knew she’d try to talk me out of whatever crazy idea it was I had at the time. I drove over to her house unexpectedly and noticed JB’s car parked in the driveway. What the fuck? Since when is Kiki cool with JB? I started to leave since she appeared to have company but after a few seconds of contemplating I ended up going to the door anyway. I knocked lightly and waited patiently. A few seconds later Kiki’s voice screamed from the opposite side of the door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s D, girl, open the door.”
“Give me a second, okay.”
Now I knew she was in there messing around. I laughed to myself as I stood outside of the door. Miss I-don’t-date-drug-dealers was caught in the act. I wanted to see her lie herself out of this one. After five minutes I knocked again but this time not so lightly. Unexpectedly the door opened and JB was standing there putting his jacket on.
“What’s up, Diamond?”
“I should be asking you that question.” I laughed. He smiled and walked past me. Kiki was now standing at the door with a devilish grin on her face.
“Don’t even say anything, girl, just get in here.”
“I’m cracking-up inside, let me just tell you that. You are funny as hell.” I smiled as I walked inside and headed over to the couch. “So what’s the deal? You and JB—I would have never imagined that.”
“Yeah, me either, girl, you know how I feel about them drug-dealing niggas. I don’t want to have to sleep with one eye open waiting for someone to do a drive-by and shit. I’m lo-key. Damn shame he can lay the pipe, girl.”
I burst into laughter. “JB, really? He don’t look like the type.”
“Well, his looks are definitely deceiving.”
“How the hell did you even hook up with him? I never even saw y’all talking before.”
“He was down at the club a few weeks ago and kicked a little game. I almost ignored his ass until he gave me a hundred-dollar tip. I figured I could at least go out with him. Going out turned into fucking and we’ve been doing it ever since.” She laughed and slapped me a high five.
I was all for Kiki finding a man; she’d been single for a while now. It was good to see someone making her smile for a change.
“So enough about me, what brings you here? I know it wasn’t to say hi—you never come all the way over here for that.”
She knew me so well. “Well, I came over to tell you about my plan. I know you’re going to try and talk me out of it but I can’t keep secrets from you.”
“You always got a damn plan girl. Your mind’s always wandering. What the hell are you up to now? I hope it ain’t anything illegal, you can’t afford to go to jail again.”
“No, not illegal, but conniving as hell.”
She sat back in the chair and gave me a funny look. Her eyebrows were raised and her smile was a little smaller than it had been a few minutes earlier. “I stopped my birth control pills.”
“What? Why the hell would you do that? You are in the prime of your life. You damn sure don’t need to be dragging no baby around. Plus that shit drops your sexy ratings by at least two points.”
“Sexy ratings? What the hell are you talking about, Kiki?”
“The way niggas look at you, duh!”
“Girl, I’m focused. I’m gonna have Black’s baby and bump that bitch Trice out of the picture.”
She laughed, “What? I know you can come up with a better plan than that. Shit ain’t like that baby will guarantee he’ll stay. The only thing that will guarantee is that you’ll be tied up with a whining-ass kid every day. Girl, I can’t even think about that.”
“I didn’t know you were so anti-child.”
“I love kids—don’t get me wrong—but just somebody else’s.”
“Well, that’s my plan and I’m sticking to it. All I have to do is get knocked up.”
“That should be the easy part. You really think that chick is going to give up that easily? I don’t see it. She’s stuck around even after he dumped her ass for you.”
“It ain’t about what I think, it’s about what I know. And I know that bitch won’t have a choice.”
“Okay now we don’t need no more murders.”
“I’m not trying to go there, Kiki, but you know I will.”
“I didn’t know you cared about Black that much, honestly. I thought that shit was just another game.”
“I love him and I know he loves me. Girl he called me his fiancée when I introduced him to my dad.”
“Your dad? When the hell was that? I see you’ve been keeping me out of the loop lately.” She sat up in the chair.
“I’ve just been busy. You know you’re my girl, I can’t keep shit from you.”
“Okay then spill it.”
“Well, I went over and met my mother and I look so much like her. I mean, I could almost be her twin. It turned out a lot better than I thought it would at first. I almost didn’t
go because I was scared of what I would see. I was actually surprised. I warmed up to them pretty fast. It felt like I belonged, you know.” I was getting choked up just talking about it.
“Wow, I’m so happy for you D. I know that means so much to you.”
“It does. I have a brother too, named Javan. I haven’t met him yet but I did talk to him on the phone.”
“That’s so good.”
“Yeah, but back to my plan.”
“You never cease to amaze me.” she laughed.
“I’m serious about this, I’m really ready to do this.”
“I hope it works for you. I don’t want to see you get hurt and to bring a baby into this world to be caught in the middle of all of that drama isn’t good. But I got your back whatever you decide to do. You know that.” She moved over to hug me. I felt better knowing that she had my back. I didn’t doubt it but I still needed to have it confirmed. “So where are you off to?”
“Home to my man, girl, gotta get working on this baby!” I yelled. We both giggled as we walked to the door. I gave her one more hug before leaving. I dialed Black’s cell and didn’t get an answer so I left a message. I drove home hoping he’d call before I got there. I turned the corner and saw his car parked outside. I smiled. I parked, got out, and went inside. I went upstairs after calling his name a few times and found him asleep across the bed with the remote control in his hand.
“Babe,” I said as I tapped him on the leg. He woke up, startled.
“What’s up? Damn, I was knocked out.”
“Yeah, snoring and all.”
“No, I wasn’t, stop lying,” he said, smiling. I always picked with him about snoring. I told him I’d tape him one day so he could hear it for himself. He looked at me almost as if he could eat me. Hell, I wanted him to eat me, to be honest. I wanted to jump on him and make this baby that I wanted.
“Come here,” he said reaching his arms out to grab me. His warm hands wrapped around my waist. His fingertips were caressing the small of my back and his lips were kissing my cleavage. I moaned a little, confirming how good he made me feel. I pushed him back onto the bed playfully. He smiled. He loved it when I took control. I didn’t say a word, only loosening his belt and unbuttoning his pants. His dick was already hard and practically busting through his jeans. Once I pulled his pants and boxers off and revealed his dick, my mouth began to water. I was extremely horny, so much so that my pussy juices were soaking up my panties. I grabbed hold of it and gently planted a kiss on the head of it. I kissed it a few more times before taking it in my mouth. As I sucked up and down I used one hand to jerk it and the other hand to massage his balls. I’d occasionally take it out of my mouth and spit on it. He said shit like that turned him on. He was begging me to stop but I couldn’t—well, I wouldn’t stop. I was too focused on getting every drop of his cum in me. After a few more minutes I stood up, removed my pants and panties, and climbed on top of him. His dick went inside of me with ease. I was so wet each time I’d slam my ass down a splashing effect occurred.
“This pussy is so wet,” he moaned.
I didn’t respond, I kept riding him, moving my hips in circles and fitting all of his length inside of me. I would occasionally stop for a second just to bend down and kiss him. He’d kiss me and as I’d go to sit back up he’d grab hold of me to kiss a little more. As we lay stomach to stomach I’d slowly lift my ass up and push it back down. I’d grind and moan at the same time. Though the moans were muffled by our passionate kiss you could still hear them escaping into the air. Over the next half hour and a continuous pace he erupted inside of me. Both of our bodies were shaking and exhausted. After I crawled off of him we lay there quiet. I was on my back staring up at the ceiling with my mind wandering. I hoped that this session of love making would get me the results that I yearned for. Black was quiet as well and I knew if he were ever quiet it meant that he was in deep thought. Most times I’d let him be rather than interrupting him but this time I wanted to know what was on his mind.
“Why are you so quiet? What’s on your mind?” I said as I turned on my side and rubbed my hand across his chest.
“Just thinking about this dude named Money JB recommended to me.”
“Money? That name sounds familiar.”
“Familiar how?” He turned to look at me.
“I don’t know, it just sounds like I heard it before.”
“Well, he’s trying to partner up with me and I’m leaning toward doing just that.”
“Partner? Why would you need a partner?”
“I don’t need a partner technically but he has some connections that will only benefit us in the long run.”
“What’s wrong with the connections that we already have? I mean, with this Kemp shit still lingering do you really trust dealing with somebody new?”
“I’m not worried about Kemp and this doesn’t have anything to do with him and whoever is out here trying to scare us the shit ain’t working. I’m not about to stop my money because of that shit. This can only put more money in both of our pockets. I know that you love money so what’s the prob-lem?”
“There isn’t a problem. I just want you to be safe. I’d die if something happened to you.”
“Nothing’s going to happen to me.” He turned on his side and was now staring me in the eyes. This was one of those sensitive moments that I treasured. He placed his hand on the side of my face and rubbed it gently. “I love you, okay. I’m not about to go down that easily.”
I smiled and kissed him. I knew that he loved me and I had him where I wanted him. The pregnancy would seal the deal. With that, I’d permanently have his love locked down.
Chapter 12
Black
More Drama
“Why the hell do I have to argue with you all the time? It’s not like you want for anything!” I yelled. Trice was standing on the opposite side of the room with her hands on her hips and her face frowned up.
“Who said I didn’t want for anything? I want us. I want things to be the way they used to be. I don’t know what’s so special about her. I tried to hang around hoping that you’d see her true colors and dump her ass but I can’t do this anymore.”
“What colors? You don’t even know her.”
“Not personally but I know all about her. How could you be with someone like her?”
“I’m not going to explain that, Trice. The bottom line is I’m with her and that’s that.”
She sat there with a sad look on her face. I never wanted to hurt her but what the hell was I supposed to do. Don’t get me wrong I did love Trice but not enough to go back. That’s partly what made me look at her as if she were just a piece of ass when I needed some. I could admit that her actions were partly my fault since I never told her how deep my relationship with Diamond really was. I was going to marry her and it was probably about time I told her.
“I can’t accept that.”
“Well, you’ll have to because soon I’m going to marry her.”
She stared at me as if she was ready to cry. I’d just broken her heart in a million pieces. How did things get this way? I still couldn’t figure it out. As men, we make some of the dumbest choices when it comes to dealing with women. Not saying that being with Diamond wasn’t the right choice, just saying that leading Trice on was. Unexpectedly she grabbed a vase off the table and threw it at me. It just missed my head by inches and crashed against the wall behind me, breaking into pieces. Tears were pouring out of her eyes.
“Get the fuck out!” she screamed.
“Trice, I’m . . .”
“Just get out, please. I can’t stand to look at you right now.”
I turned to walk toward the door without a fight. She’d come back around eventually, she always did. I opened the door and said, “I’m sorry,” before walking out. Once I got inside the car I reached in the glove compartment and pulled out the little black box that I’d just picked up from jewelers row. Inside was the five-karat engagement ring that I bought for
Diamond. I didn’t think that the time was right to propose to her because if Kemp was in fact still alive, she couldn’t marry me anyway. I took the ring out the box, glanced at it for a few seconds, and put it back inside. What was I going to do? My mind was going in circles as I looked up at Trice standing in the window. We made eye contact for a few seconds before I turned on the car and backed out of the driveway.
Kemp was now on my mind more than ever. Almost three months had passed since the car bomb. Not that I wanted something else to happen but I was ready for war. I was tired of waiting around like a sitting duck for him to sneak up on me. I was ready to go to war and get the shit over with. I pulled my cell phone from my jacket pocket and dialed Tommy. I hadn’t seen him much in the past few weeks. Kenyon was his right hand, so with him missing I knew he’d probably blame me.
“Hello!” he yelled over the loud music in the background.
“Yo’ it’s Black, what’s the deal?”
He turned down the radio. “Nothing, man, what’s up?”
“I should be asking you that question, where you been? I ain’t seen you in a minute. You got that much dough you ain’t gotta work no more?”
“Naw man, I was just feeling under the weather. Had to take some time to get myself together that’s all. I’m gonna get back on my job this week.”
“Is that right?”
“Yeah, I wouldn’t bullshit you.”
“For as long as I’ve known you, you’ve been about money, so this disappearing act seems pretty strange to me. This wouldn’t have anything to do with Kemp would it?”
“Kemp? Hell no, I don’t believe everything I hear in the streets. I really don’t believe he’s alive. If he were alive he would have showed his face by now.”
He was right; Kemp wasn’t afraid of no one. I couldn’t see him doing all this shit and hiding in the background. Kemp was more on point too—shit, if he wanted me dead I would have been dead by now. My mind was seriously playing tricks on me.
