SpaceBook Awakens (Amy Armstrong 3) Page 26

by Stephen Colegrove

The giant sauro dropped the huge metal square and pointed down the beach.

A human figure lay facedown on a large couch cushion that washed in and out with the waves. Naked and covered with seaweed, the human female had pale legs, a back covered with bruises, and dozens of cuts dripping blood. Her right shoulder was almost entirely pink scar tissue, and the arm had been replaced with a mechanical limb, the chrome bones tangled with the same seaweed as everything else. Her wet hair had turned dark brown from the seawater, and was covered in sand from the constant pushing of the waves.

George clapped and giggled. “A pet! Egg bless us both!”

Nistra grabbed the larger sauro. “Stop! She might be dangerous. I’ve lost everything today––my comrades, my transport back home, and my actual home planet which is still spinning uselessly in the ship belonging to that egg-blasted Amy Armstrong. I don’t want to lose my life as well.”

He crept carefully across the sand to the seaweed-covered body, prodded it with a foot, and then pulled it and the cushion up to the high-tide line on the sand. The sauro knelt down and brushed sand-covered hair away from the face. A pink scar slashed the woman’s left cheek from forehead to chin.

Nistra shrieked as the woman opened her eyes.

  “Hello, boys,” whispered One.
