‘So you must be…yep, you’re definitely Cameron.’ His tiny son opened his eyes and waved both fists at him. ‘Going to be a handful, just like your cousin Robbie.’

‘I think Eliza’s going to take after me,’ Melanie told Luke, gazing at her two-day-old daughter through the Perspex sides of the crib.
Luke paced the floor with a fussy Cameron. ‘In that case we’ll have to lock her up when she’s sixteen.’
‘I know I said I wanted to go back to work in a couple of years, but I think my nursing days are on hold indefinitely. I want to put my energy into raising these kids…and any others that come along.’
‘Talking about more already?’
She looked at her family and her heart filled with love. ‘Oh, yeah. But the Rainbow Road still needs me,’ she said. ‘I want to use any spare time to make it bigger and better. It’s always been a passion of mine…’
A snuffle followed by a lusty wail signalled Cameron had had enough of being joggled by his father and was ready for sustenance.
‘Now you and I have the funds to make that a reality,’ she continued, unbuttoning her nightgown, already feeling the prickling sensation in her nipples that her babies’ cries brought on.
No sooner had she got him settled and sucking, than Eliza, not to be outdone, joined in from her crib.
‘Hey, darling, you feeling left out? Come to Daddy,’ Luke crooned, picking her up, cradling her as if she were the most precious china.
‘Okay, sweetie, there’s enough for you too,’ Mel said.
With Luke’s help she adjusted both infants to feed at the same time. ‘A-h-h. Quiet.’ But she smiled as she said it.
Luke sat on the edge of the bed, lifted a strand of Mel’s hair away from her face, smoothed his fingers over her lips. ‘Now I’m feeling left out.’
A long, lingering, stubble-jawed kiss later, Melanie looked up at Luke. ‘You need some sleep too, honey. And a shave might help.’
He looked tired and dishevelled. And damn irresistibly sexy…
Hmm. Juggling sex around feeds was going to take some manoeuvring. At the moment sex seemed as remote as the moon, but loving—the kind of loving that made no demands, the kind she saw in Luke’s eyes right now—was there for keeps.
She’d thought nursing was busy, but with a husband and twins…
As if he read her mind he smiled. ‘Life’s about to get a lot more hectic.’
She lifted her face for one more prickly kiss. ‘I wouldn’t have it any other way.’
