“I was able to get them to wait. You’ll have to submit an official statement tomorrow, but I’ll be with you, and you’ll be rested. There’s no reason they can’t wait. It’s clear what happened, they found all the proof they need.”
“How many were killed? Of our people.” I can't help but ask, even though my stomach is a tight knot of worry as I wait for the answer.
“Too many. You were right about the slaughter. But less than could have been,” she says with a long, slow exhale. “Javier and Georgia are smart. They were able to minimize the casualties.”
“What now?” I ask. My hands are shaking, my body thinks I still need to be fighting for my life.
“Just another day, Olivia. There’s no point in worrying about tomorrow.”
“If you say so,” I say with a snort, leaning my head back and shutting my eyes. A breeze blows across the porch and some of the tension leaves my shoulders.
Lydia’s phone rings and she pulls it out of the pocket of her robe. She pinches her brows together as she looks at the screen, but answers it anyhow.
“Lydia Holland, how can I help you?”
Lydia pauses, her back straightening as the other person talks. “A representative from the council? Coming here?”
I look up sharply. I was sure the council knew about what had happened here, but it had been handled. Why would they be interfering now?
Lydia turns to me, eyes wide, the phone still pressed to her ear. “What do they want with Olivia?”
Fuck.

About the Author
Stephanie Foxe was born and raised near Houston, TX. She grew up playing in the pond and woods in her backyard, and devouring every book she could get her hands on.
Her teen years were spent transitioning slowly from reader, to writer. She spent most evenings on the phone with her cousin writing the first few pages to many books that would never be finished.
Her adult years were spent toiling away at a corporate job until she heard about a little writing project called NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). From there, the idea of writing a book went from a fanciful dream to a finished manuscript. Her first book was written, and Stephanie was addicted.
Now, she has plans to publish everything from paranormal fantasy to science fiction.
