He brought my hand to his lips and kissed my knuckles softly. “There’s a reason if I wanted us to have a nice dinner together instead of our usual takeout in front of the TV or a dinner at some fancy LA restaurant where people would stop us to take a selfie with me or some other shit.’’
“Good thing you still seem in love with me or else I’d think you’re trying to break up with me.’’ I chuckled nervously. I was tense now too.
“It’s the contrary, Harley.’’ His Adam’s apple jumped several times in his throat as if he had a hard time swallowing. “I love you and it’s not just because you’re beautiful inside and out. There’s something about you that makes my life click. Whenever things get tough and you could run away because this life can be difficult, you don’t and we get even closer. I didn’t know it was possible to live a relationship like this. You make me a better man not because you want to change me, but because I want to be better. You’re my muse, my love, my sexy vixen too.’’ He smirked at me and winked. “You’re my everything. It’s as complex and simple as that. You’re my everything.’’
“Dex, what—what?’’
“Shh, baby.’’ He traced small circles on my knuckles and kissed them again. “Let me finish before I fuck up even more. I swear in my head it was better.’’ He shook his head as if to gather his scattered thoughts and with his free hand fumbled with something in his pocket. Slowly he brought his hand back on top of the table.
There was a black ring box in his hand.
My breathing stopped altogether and I gulped.
“Don’t faint on me now, Harley,’’ he said with a voice rendered tight by nerves.
I nodded slowly, unable to tear my eyes from that box until he released my hand to open it. Inside was a beautiful ring made of a platinum band and an art deco diamond with a light pink reflection. It sparkled under the candlelight. My eyes watered and I stared back at Dex whose face was taut with tension.
“I know it’s fast, but we work, Harley. It’s effortless to love you and be with you. I know I want you to be my wife for the rest of my life, but would you?’’
Shivers raided my body as my emotions went into overdrive. But the funny thing was that even though it was fast, even though his life was crazy and difficult most of the time, he was worth everything thrown our way. He was worth everything because without him my life didn’t feel complete. He completed me where before I didn’t know I was incomplete.
“Yes.’’
“Really?’’ He blinked at me, still holding up the ring box between his big tattooed hands almost swallowing it. “I mean, it’s forever, Harley.’’
“What, are you taking back your proposal now?’’ I asked with a laugh as I fidgeted in my chair, unsure if I should stand up and run to him or wait for him to put this magnificent ring on my finger.
“No!’’ He quickly put the ring on my finger, watching it sparkling with an awed expression I had only seen on his face once; when I first told him I loved him. “Fuck, Harley. We’re going to get married,’’ he said softly, his face started to register the monumental step we were taking.
He stood up and I followed him, meeting him around the table to kiss him with all the love, passion and desire this man awakened in me. I clutched on his body, wanting to feel him and possess him as much as he possessed me in every way.
I broke the kiss and cuddled into him like I loved to do. When his big tattooed arms closed around me, I sighed contentedly. He was my home.
“You thought I wouldn’t accept.’’
“I…I don’t know. I was afraid that you’d say it’s too soon.’’
“It’s soon, but it doesn’t feel like too soon. I know you’re my forever, Dex. There’s no doubt. I love you so much.’’
He wrapped me tighter in his arms and trailed small kisses along my neck, and then tucked his head in the crook of my neck without letting go of me. He would never let go of me.
Author’s Babbling
I have my own rockstar romance novel!
Sorry, but you have no idea how long I’ve wanted to write a rockstar romance book. I can’t resist rockstar book boyfriends and I was dying to create my very own.
Some books are difficult to write, but Dex was surprisingly “easy’’. I think to this day it’s the one that took me the least amount of time to get the first draft complete. Of course, more drafts followed—so many more—and I ended up adding almost 30k to the original draft, but I’m glad because it meant I had more time with Dex and Harley, but also with the other band members.
I hope you enjoyed this story and I will be crossing my fingers from now on, hoping you’re eager to discover Maxen’s story next. You don’t have long to wait because it’s already written! I’m a busy bee.
If you’re reading this it means that you’ve bought this book so thank you so much for keeping my dream alive. It always blows my mind when I realize that people are willing to spend hours reading my words and living with my characters.
The book world, you, brought a lot to my life. I’m so happy we share this love for books.
I also need to thank all the bloggers always helping me with my cover reveals, release day launches and other promotional events I come up with. And when you take the time to read and review my books I always want to reach through my laptop screen and hug you. You do an amazing job and your love for books, not just mine, is always inspiring.
Then, I need to thank Ellie from Love N. Books. Lady, thank you for squeezing me in your busy schedule and working on Dex. Without you it wouldn’t be readable. You need a medal for putting up with the ugly draft I sent you.
Phala, Wendy, Louise, Christie, Jo, thank you for your support. I know you’re never far if I need to be reminded that there are people who believe in my writing and want my stories.
If you enjoyed Dex and would like a bit more of my sexy rocker and Harley then make sure to sign up to get my newsletter. I plan on writing a little bonus short story soon featuring these two on their wedding day and it’ll be available for my subscribers.
Also please, consider writing a review if you enjoyed this novel. It’s always helpful and it also always brings the silliest smile to my face.
I think it’s time I stop babbling so…
Don’t forget to add Maxen to your TBR. The sex on stick, blond drummer is going to be available soon. Don’t let his loud laugh and big mouth fool you, he has a lot to say and a lot going for him to make all of us want a Maxen in our life. Let’s hope his lady realizes it sooner rather than later!
