Together, we both got her mom to her feet and she sleepily shuffled into the house and lay down on the couch.
“Mom, I’m over at Tom’s tonight.”
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” Cheryl murmured.
“Gumdrops, skittles, whipped cream, and a live chicken!” Rose shouted.
I watched as Cindy’s mom smiled and closed her eyes, snoring softly almost immediately. We headed out to the porch after closing the door softly and started walking.
“So…” I said, “You’re staying over at my house tonight?”
“You going to object to that?” She asked me, one eyebrow raised.
“Dumbass!” Rose shouted at me.
I grinned in the dark, my thoughts racing. So much had happened, so much had changed. I was now out in the open and I had made both mortal enemies and great friends. Being alone was fine until I’d realized that it was also… lonely. I still had plans of doing more to find Vassago, but my entire life’s priorities had changed. “And handcuffs!” Rose shrieked suddenly and an eruption of glitter came out of my pocket in a spray.
“Did she just…”
“You don’t want to know,” I said softly and we all went inside.
