Snatching the mirror out of my hand, my mom quickly looked over her shoulder and then back at me. “Oh, honey. Are you sure?”

  “Yes, Mom. Please.”

“If your father walks back in, we have to change the subject. I mean fast. Okay?”

I nodded and settled back, ready to hear what exactly had happened to me after being knocked out.

“I guess you and Garren had a little fight before you went to Chad’s place. I don’t know much about that part, but what I do know is he was let into Chad’s apartment, apparently to come and get you. He told us that he’d had a bad feeling about Chad but that he’d chalked it up to being jealous. He’s the one who heard you scream and all but knocked down the front door to get to you. Garren told the officer that he saw red when he burst through the door and saw you lying on the ground. Chad didn’t stand a chance, and Garren beat him to about an inch of his life. I personally wish he would have hit him a few more time—”

“Mother,” I gasped, and we both just stared at each other for a second before my she let out a little laugh, which seemed morbid at the time because we were, after all, talking about my being attacked and almost killed.

“What? You’re my only baby.” My mom reached over and placed a kiss on my forehead. “Anyway, someone else must have heard the ruckus because the cops were called and showed up. Garren was holding you while Chad lay unconscious on the floor. I can’t imagine what was going through his mind, seeing you like that. We really owe him so much for being there.”

I placed my hand on my mother’s to tell her that she’d said enough. Garren was my hero, and I knew he’d put all the blame on himself, which was unfair.

“Thanks, Mom, for telling me. I just have one more question. When do I get to go home?”

  Chapter Three

  Garren

Checking my watch for the fiftieth time told me that it had only been a minute since the last time I looked down at my wrist. I felt like a fucking giddy teenager as I waited for the moment I’d finally get to see Nicole again. She’d texted me earlier that day saying she’d been released the day before and that she wanted to see me. To thank me. I couldn’t understand why she felt so indebted to me. Everything that had happened to her was my fault. I wasn’t sure what our future would be like, if there even was a possibility of one, but what I did know was that I was going to feel the guilt from her attack for the rest of my life.

I’d spent months trying to get over that girl, and all I did was push her into the arms of a boy who was not only obsessed with her, but was so far over the edge that he was willing to hurt her if she wasn’t his. Thinking back to the moment when I saw Nicole’s lifeless body on that fucker’s floor made me wish I’d beaten his skull in. I had never been a violent person in my entire life, but seeing Nicole in the state she was in when I found her sent me over the edge.

I could feel my blood pressure start to rise when I thought about that, so I calmed down and knew it was all going to be okay because I would be looking at Nicole’s beautiful face any second now.

As if she was reading my mind, my doorbell rang, which instantly made me hard. I tried to control myself, but there was something about that girl that always had me going. There would be no sex tonight, however. I needed to let her know how I really felt about her. That I’d fallen in love, too, and I wanted to make this work.

My heart thumped in my chest as I pulled the front door open. I’d already started to pack, getting ready for my move back to New York. Carl took the news of Nicole and me much better than I’d thought he would have. He’d kept it quiet and actually seemed to understand that this was a once in a lifetime kind of thing for me, that I would have never purposely hurt our friendship over just ‘some girl.’

“You look so good, Nicole. Come here.” I opened my arms and waited for her to walk forward and step into my embrace, but she just stood outside in the frigid air, staring at me.

“I’m here to say thank you, and that’s it.” Her stare was blank, and I couldn’t see my girl inside. I agreed, though, and moved to the side so she could come inside my soon-to-be former home.

“Nicole, I know I’ll never be able to take what you went through away from you, but I’ve changed. I would like you to sit down and talk with me, please.”

Nicole moved to the side of me and walked into my house. I took in the sight of her. Her long hair had grown another few inches, making the blonde strands brush against the middle of her back. I never knew I was a long hair kind of guy until she waltzed into my life. I loved grabbing that hair from behind when I was slamming into her. I shook my head and knew it was wrong of me to be having those thoughts when she had just been released from the hospital, but I couldn’t help it when she was around. She sat on my couch, wearing tight black pants with a long gray sweater that was also tight enough to show off her beautiful curves.

“You look beautiful,” I said, so quietly that I wasn’t sure she’d heard me.

A small lift of her lips told me that she had, and I hoped she was cooling off a little.

“What do you want to talk about?” was all she said when she crossed her legs while positioning herself on my couch. The couch that had shown us both a wonderful time together.

Sitting down across from her, far enough away so we wouldn’t be able to touch, was hard enough, but the look in her eyes almost had me doing something so far out of the norm that I had to look away for a moment.

“I wanted to tell you that I’m sorry, Nicole. I’m sorry for hurting you and for making you walk into the arms of another man. I’m also telling you that I’m leaving for New York in a few days. I’ll continue to accept finals for the next week, but I’m starting a new job in New York City.”

I turned back to face her and closely watched her expression to see if my leaving would bother her. I knew that I’d broken her heart, but I still had hope that she’d give us a second chance, and I had the perfect plan to make that happen.

“I don’t blame you. Chad was obviously insane and had a very unhealthy obsession with me. My parents told me that he’s in a psych ward in Arizona and will be there for a while. We placed a restraining order against him, and I’m actually feeling okay. You need to stop blaming yourself, because no one else does. In fact, you’re the hero. You saved me.”

Smiling at Nicole, I reached my hand out to hold hers. “I have something for you, but you don’t have to say anything now. All I’m asking is to take a look at it.”

  “Okay.”

Reaching over to the stand beside my couch, I grabbed a white envelope and slowly handed it over to Nicole. I wasn’t sure how she was going to take my proposal, but I was hoping she’d be just hopeful as I was.

  “What’s this?”

I didn’t say anything back; I wanted her to open the package and gauge her response before I said anything. I would know right away what she was thinking.

Nicole was slow tearing open the top seal with her small fingers, but when she pulled the first sheet of paper from the envelope, I instantly noticed her eyes brighten.

  “NYU. Are you serious?”

Smiling, I nodded my head and continued to watch her reaction. “Keep going, there’s more.”

Her pace picked up a little after reading over the first few lines of the application I’d gotten for her. “Do you really think I’d get in? I mean, it’s the second semester and I know—”

I placed my hand in the air to quiet her. “Nicole, I wouldn’t have given you this if I didn’t think you’d be accepted. I’ve already talked to a few faculty members and you’re a great candidate. You’ll get in. That is, if you want to transfer.”

Nicole didn’t say anything back, but looked down and pulled out another sheet of paper. “What’s this?”

“I want you to move in with me, Nicole. I have a very spacious flat in Greenwich Village. You’ll love it there.”

She didn’t say anything for a minute, and I wasn’t sure what was going through that head of hers. “NYU i
s so expensive and I’ll need my parents’ help. I don’t know. This sounds so crazy.”

“I feel crazy without you. I know I messed up letting you walk out of here a few months ago, and I’ve paid for that mistake every day. I want you—us—to work. You’re all I think about and all I want. Come to New York with me, Nicole? Let’s make a life together. I’ll do whatever needs to be done to get you out there. I’ll help you with school. Please, I don’t know what I’ll do if you say no.”

Nicole didn’t say anything because she didn’t need to. Her actions spoke loud enough for the two of us.

Her smile was contagious, and before I knew it, we were both lunging for each other, ripping clothes off as fast as humanly possible.

“Fuck, I love you so much. So much.” I placed a gentle kiss on her lips when I felt a tear roll down her cheek.

“I’ve wanted to hear you say that for a while. Say it again.”

I laughed and yelled, “I fucking love Nicole Swanson!” as loud as I could.

Nicole’s giggles made my dick so hard that I only saw one thing, and that was me filling her so completely full that she would feel me for days.

Soon Nicole was sitting on my couch with just her panties on, and I was hovering over her in only my briefs. “Are you feeling okay? I don’t want to hurt you.”

“I feel fine.” She stopped talking and looked over my shoulder to the large front window. “But can we go upstairs?”

I wasn’t sure what had spooked her, but I wasn’t going to argue. I scooped her up easily in my arms and made her squeal when my fingers found the edge of her panties and quickly pulled them to the side while slipping in just a bit. “You’re already so fucking wet.”

  “Always.”

And that made me go out in an all-out sprint.

Instead of throwing her on the bed like always, because hell, I loved watching her huge tits bounce all around, I placed her down softly and knew I needed to be gentle with her.

I looked down at my love and knew I’d made the right decision. I’d never forgive myself if I let this girl get away. “You’re so beautiful, my Nicole.”

Just when I thought she couldn’t get me any more aroused, she did something that about made me blow my load right there.

Her delicate fingers started to knead her hardened nipple, making a little pre-cum drench the front of my briefs. “Fuck me. That’s so hot.”

“You’re hot,” she said just as her hand moved down lower, moving her underwear to the side so I could see those pretty, little lips that I loved so much.

The growl that left my mouth took her by surprise, but I didn’t care. I needed her sweet juices in my mouth.

Her yell let me know that she wanted that, too, and when I yanked my underwear off and bent down to suck her into my mouth, her hands instinctively went straight to my hair and pulled as I sucked and licked her sensitive spot. “Do not come. You’re only coming around my cock tonight. Do you understand?”

  “Yes, yes. I’ll try.”

  “Yes what?”

Nicole laughed but then moaned very loudly, “Yes, Mr. Mitchell.”

I continued to ravish her with my tongue, soaking up the feeling of having her again in my bed. Feeling her come undone was making it very hard to keep my cock away from her. In the end he won the battle, because it wasn’t long until I was lined up with her entrance, massaging her clit with my rough fingers. “Are you ready for me?”

“Yes, God, yes.” We locked eyes, and I knew she was just more than a good fuck. She was what I didn’t know I’d been searching for.

I slowly pushed my dick deep into her tight, little cunt and instantly felt her walls clench against it. “You feel too good,” I moaned and pushed myself deeper.

I was still standing, and when I wrapped my large hands around her small waist, it gave me the perfect leverage to pump myself in and out of her. Her hands were moving wildly through her hair, and it was at that moment that I didn’t know if she had a look of pleasure on her face or pain. Was her head still hurting? “We’re going to take this a little slower than normal. I don’t want your head hurting after this.”

“It doesn’t. I’m on some good pain meds, and this feels so good. I’ve missed this.”

I smiled and looked down at my girl. The thought of shooting my cum all over her chest made my dick twitch with excitement. I knew meds and birth control didn’t mix, and there was no way I was shooting my load inside of her, even though the thought of a child growing inside her didn’t scare me nearly as bad as it should have. It actually made my chest have this warm, tingling feeling when I pictured her carrying my child. What the fuck was wrong with me? I decided not to think about that anymore and to live in the present. “I’m going to come on your chest.”

Nicole nodded and leaned forward, pulling my neck down to her so our lips could be connected. I kissed her with everything I had without hurting her sore lip, showing her that I was really in this, this relationship I wanted to build with her. “Come with me,” I whispered into her ear while circling her clit with my thumb. I could feel her start to clench, and I was close myself. I pulled out of her and placed two fingers inside of her, feeling her orgasm clamp around my fingers.

We both watched as my dick twitched and shot my release all over her bare chest. There was something about the sight of a man’s cum all over his girl that always kept me hard. I could cover her with my seed and be a happy man.

“Stay here. I’m going to go and get a washcloth.” I quickly went to my bathroom and ran warm water to clean up her body.

After I made sure Nicole was good to go, we made love two more times before we both passed out. She stayed with me that entire weekend, and for a moment, our perfect world was starting to take shape. Little did we know it wasn’t going to be that easy. Not even close.

  Chapter Four

  Nicole

Okay, all I had to tell my parents was that I was moving to New York City. That really shouldn’t be a big deal, except I’m moving with my college professor. Fuck, they’re going to kill me.

I dramatically fell against my bed, which was surrounded with packing boxes, the bed I’d started this semester out in, not knowing that my life would be flipped so far around by the end of it that I wouldn’t have a clue which way was up. I was at my dorm room to pick up the rest of my things and to formally say goodbye to Lexi, my roommate. Now she would only be Lexi, my best friend.

“They’re going to be pissed at first, but you’re an adult. You’re their only child; they’re not going to just up and disown you. Just go home and tell them the truth.”

I looked over at Lexi and scrunched my eyes shut. “You make it sound so easy.”

“It will be. You’re just being dramatic right now.” The pillow that hit my face punctuated Lexi’s point.

“You’re right. Do you think I’m crazy? You know, moving to New York with a man who has serious commitment issues and doesn’t really believe in the happily-ever-after fairy tale that all of us women do?”

Lexi laughed, but then became serious. Like she’d just remembered something. “Hey, you received a letter today. I grabbed it out of our box and threw it on your nightstand.”

I lifted my eyebrows and wondered what kind of letter it could be. Maybe Garren had something up his sleeve that he wanted to surprise me with. He really seemed messed up and blamed himself about my incident with Chad. I hoped that Chad would move on and forget about me, and that I would never see his crazy face again.

When I tore open the beautiful white envelope with gold details, my heart sank when I saw what it was. “What the hell?” I whispered and quickly opened the disturbing card that had a picture of a simple puddle on the front that looked like blood. Inside was a love poem, which was anything but romantic.

  Roses are red

  Violets are dead

  Just like you

Because I can’t get you out of my head.

“Lexi.” My voice was shaky, and the card I was holding w
ent propelling to the floor.

“Nikki, what is it? You look like you’ve seen a ghost. Let me see that.” Lexi reached down and picked up the card that could only be from one person. “This is fucked up!” she screamed and was pacing back and forth in our room before I knew it. “I’m going to go out and kill this motherfucker! How the hell did he get a note to you?”

I shook my head and tried to hold back the tears that were about to fall from my eyes. I was stupid to think this thing with Chad was going to be over just like that. He’d been obsessing over me for way too long to just drop it. “Lexi, he’s going to come after me. What do I do? Who do I call?”

“I don’t know, but this fucking lunatic is done. You need to go to the cops, and definitely tell Garren.”

Nodding what the only thing I was able to do. I grabbed the letter and walked over to my purse, shoving it deep inside so I wasn’t able to see it. My shaking hands could barely make it over to my phone, so Lexi had to dial Garren’s number for me.

It was the end of my first semester, and it was time to tell my parents what my new life plan was. They had told me that I could enroll in the local community college this semester to sort things out, but I really loved the idea of moving to New York for college. It had secretly been my lifelong dream, and the thought of possibly making that happen sent pure joy through my body. That and I needed to get far, far away from Chad. The feeling of wanting to go somewhere where he’d have no idea where I was was so appealing. I just had to convince my parents. I could do it on my own, but being an only child, having a great relationship with them was very important to maintain. I not only needed them but I wanted them in my life. I just hoped they could see the potential in this situation. The only bad thing that could come out of this is if they knew who I was moving with. They thought the whole idea of Garren and me was ridiculous.
