“You did it, baby.” He cries.
“We did it.” I correct him.
Just as the nurses take him to get him weighed and measured, the doc comes in. “So, what’s this little guy’s name going to be?” Malik and I look at each other and smile. We knew exactly what we were going to name him as soon as we found out what we were having.
“Hunter Malik Bourque.” I tell the doc.
“Strong name for a strong man. He’ll do you proud.”
We know he will.
Epilogue
Malik
Seeing my son for the first time was the highlight of my life. To be a father has always been a dream of mine but I knew what I was getting into when Sierra and I got together. Now four years later, the gods have blessed us with a child. And that is something I’ll never take for granted. It’s been almost a week since his birth and watching him and Sierra bond has been magical. She’s an amazing mother, with more patience than I ever thought possible.
Tonight, we have the lycan christening. He will be seen as the next Alpha to take over the Lycans of Louisiana. I will make damn sure I don’t fail him. After talking to several native tribes, we found that our son does have a link in the chain with the people and the state. We know that he will be destined for greatness, but we also have to raise him to be the man he wants to be, not what we want him to be. For now, though, I think I’ll just enjoy him while he small.
As we approach the camp, Hunter seems to be getting restless in his carrier. I don’t blame him. I would be too, if I had to stay in that damn thing for hours. Pulling up we see everyone sitting around the campfire. I see Trigger and Eve. They look happy now. Eve finally came into her shifting after that night at the warehouse. Now her and Trigger are expecting. I think he said she was five months along. I see Bridget and Rush too. Seg and his wife as well as many others. I park the truck. Watching Sierra in the moonlight, it’s like I’m seeing her for the first time. In the four years we’ve been together, not once have I noticed her true beauty until tonight. Tonight she’s breathtaking and tonight I will make sure she is mine forever.
“You ready?” I ask.
“As ready as I’ll ever be.” She answers. I lean over the center console to give her a kiss. We’re interrupted by Hunter wanting out of his car seat. I grab Hunter while Sierra grabs the diaper bag. People start huddling around. The ‘ohs’ and ‘ah’s’ echo through the woods.
“Are we ready to begin?” An older lady comes out of the house. Sierra and I nod. “Gather around the fire. Put the child in the cradle in front of me.” As all of us surround the fire pit, the old lady starts saying a prayer in another language. You could feel that we aren’t alone in the woods.
“Ancestors of the Lycan packs,” she finally says in English. “We present to you a new heir to the Thibodeaux family. The new heir as Alpha. We ask that you help guide him through his tribulations and that you be there to protect him through his spirit animal.” Her hands are raised above her head as she yells for everyone to hear. I look around expecting ghosts to be walking out of the woods. “Ancestors, send Hunter his spirit animal.” Just as she says that, a wolf appears from the woods and stands outside the circle. “Wolf,” the old woman continues, “You are to guide and protect this child. Do you accept this gift?” I may be seeing things but I’m pretty sure it just nodded. When I look over at Sierra, she looks as if she has seen a ghost.
“You okay, baby?” I ask her.
“Father?” She murmurs.
