Killing the Dead (Book 10): Feral Page 16

by Murray, Richard

“I thought you’d be more interesting than the others,” she said simply.

  “How so?”

“You know,” she said, that smile unwavering. “You and me, we’re alike.”

  “We are?”

“Of course,” she said as she stepped closer, cautious as though approaching a wild animal. “You and me, we could have a lot of fun now that you’ve ditched that lot.”

“Did you kill them?” I asked and she stopped her advance, watching the way I gripped my knife warily.

“No, they live,” she said. “If you call that living. Wandering the world trying to save people.”

She gave a delicate shudder and stepped forward again, within reach of me. She raised one hand and rested it against my chest.

“Think of what we could do together. How much fun we could have,” she said as her smile widened and something danced behind her eyes. Something familiar. “What do you say?”

  “Okay.”

  Note from the Author.

Ryan has broken the one promise that he’d made to Lily. Innocents died and by killing them, he has severed his ties to Lily and the humanity she was bringing out in him. While their story is far from over, Ryan will be going his own way as he tries to return to the killer he once was.

I hope you join him on that journey.
