Her ToyBear Page 20

by Bonnie Burrows

“He’s not yours,” Jennifer said into the deadly maw of the she-bear. “He was yours once; he’s not any more. He’s mine. Do you understand? Wesley doesn’t belong to you now. He belongs to me. He’s mine.”

She trembled at the sight of Adela rising back on her hind legs again. She took a deep breath as the black she-bear raised one mighty paw with talons at the ready. In another moment, those claws would find her. Jennifer braced herself for the last agony she would ever feel…

And another black shape came charging in, colliding with Adela’s ribs and knocking her sidelong onto the grass. With a dreadful thud, Adela hit the ground, then rolled back to her feet in front of the advancing, roaring Wesley.

At once, Wesley was upon Adela. They both rose up halfway to standing and slammed together again. They fell onto the turf, black-furred bodies and limbs thrashing, growls and bellows mingling together. They rolled and slashed and snapped at each other, two mighty animals in collision. Jennifer covered her mouth to stifle a scream. Somewhere in the midst of the struggle, she could hear the voices of his parents.

  “Wesley! Wesley, don’t!” cried Jocelyn.

“Son, no! Wesley, no! Stop!” shouted Vernon.

Wesley did not listen. He crashed against Adela, butted her, roared at her, put his fangs at her throat, reared up over her, and showed her his claws. Adela lay in the grass, roaring back up at him. For a long, dreadful moment, the two of them seemed frozen that way.

When it was over, a silence fell again. Wesley went back to all fours and stood there, glowering at Adela. The she-bear breathed a deep, rasping breath and picked herself up from the ground. She stood facing him, glowering and growling back.

Then her voice turned to a deep, heavy whine; a noise that Jennifer could have sworn would be the sound of crying if this creature were human. The sound of it cut through her heart. The whine seemed to be filled with pain, with longing, and with despair.

Wesley made a sound back at her. It seemed to Jennifer to be a sound of deep sadness and regret. It turned to a long, deep grunt that sounded very much like a parting word. It sounded like goodbye.

Adela moved away, whining and grunting, and turned her back to Wesley. He watched her go, trotting at first, then breaking into a run, back to the forest at the far end of the Osborn Glade. Her sounds of ursine sorrow slowly faded as she disappeared back into the wooded darkness and was gone.

The Glade was still and silent again when Adela was gone. No one moved. No one spoke. Then, with a long, deep exhalation, Wesley lay himself down in the grass. His fur disappeared like a black snow melting. His body morphed, shifted, and settled. And a young human lad took the place of the bear in the meadow.

Wesley slowly brought himself up on his shoulders, beautifully, spectacularly naked in the morning sun. He looked over and found the one he most wanted to see. His voice was hoarse, but clear enough. “Jen…?”

Jennifer burst into tears. Wesley held out one arm to her, and she found her way to her feet. She ran to his side and fell to her knees next to him, gathering him up in her arms. She held him and rocked him, and she cried out everything she had felt since he first went into the forest. Wesley clung to her, panting. His Calling Time was over. The only calling left for him now was love.

Jocelyn and Vernon put their arms around each other and watched their son and his lover reunited. In the end, it had all gone as they knew it would.

  _______________

Wesley was dressed again and ferociously hungry when he and Jennifer returned to their suite. Jennifer ordered him what seemed to be half the room service menu, and what did she care? She was rich and happy. Her bear, her boy, her man was back with her again, and all was right with her world.

They sat themselves down at the table in the suite, and Jennifer pecked at things while he inhaled everything in sight. In the midst of devouring a whole rack of pork ribs and a pitcher of lemonade, Wesley said to her, “Jen, can you do something for me, please?”

  “Anything,” she said.

“Can you try and work on forgiving my folks? I understand what they did and why they did it. I know you think it was wrong, but it’s just our way. And they told you how it’d turn out in the end.”

“Well, Adela had some other ideas,” said Jennifer, shuddering a bit at the thought that just a couple of hours ago, she had come close to being shredded and disemboweled by an angry she-bear.

“Yeah, I know,” said Wesley. “She gave everything up. After we split, she lost all of her faith. She just let it all go—except for waiting for me. I was mad as hell when she went at you like that, but mostly I was sad for her. She gave up her life and just stayed there in the forest, waiting for me. And I went with her, but I didn’t want her anymore.”

He looked deeply into Jennifer’s eyes, with all the sincerity in the world. “I swear, Jen, nothing happened out there. We stayed in the forest and just roamed around and ate and swam and slept. But I didn’t do anything to her. I promise I didn’t. She kept trying to get me to screw her, but I wouldn’t. I didn’t want to. I was just there with her because I felt so bad for her. I didn’t want to screw her, and I didn’t.”

Jennifer touched his hand, accepting. “I believe you,” she said.

“I love you, Jen,” he said, “more than anything. Nothing could have stopped me from getting back to you. Nothing. You’re all I want.”

He leaned over and kissed her, tasting of ribs and barbecue sauce, and Jennifer cared as little about that as she did about anything else, except having him with her again.

Sitting up again, Wesley said, “But you will try to forgive my Mom and Dad, right? See, they had faith. And I did, too. I know how hard this has been for you. I guess it’s made you take another look at, like, everything you ever thought about the world. And you’re a smart woman and an artist. Maybe it’s harder for you than for most people to take something on faith. But my kind…we’ve got instincts, see? Even when we’re just human, we’ve got instincts, and sometimes we go with ‘em. I had an instinct that you were what I needed. Instinct’s never wrong, Jen. Sometimes that’s all we’ve got: instinct and faith. Right?”

Jennifer nodded. “That’s what I learned last night and this morning. Sometimes…sometimes you just know. I knew that anything as perfect as the two of us couldn’t be over.” She rolled her eyes and almost laughed, a laugh of disbelief in the face of everything they had faced. “My God, suddenly it’s just hitting me. I actually stood up to an angry bear. I actually looked an animal like that in the face when she was ready to kill me on the spot and told her no.” She closed her eyes and shuddered. “I actually did that.”

Wesley reached for her, taking her by the shoulder and showing her the sexiest man-boy smile in the world. “Yeah, I know. That was so frickin’ hot, Jen, my woman standing up for us like that. That was hotter than hell. Man, that’s giving me such a woody right now.”

She looked into that young face, full of adoration and raw sex, and tingled all over.

“Let’s get into bed,” said Wesley, starting to strip off his shirt. “After all that, I’m so damn horny, I wanna bang you into tomorrow morning.”

They undressed faster than either of them had ever done in their lives, and for the next several hours, the bed shook from Wesley pounding on top of her with the passion of boy, man, and beast alike.

After a long, reunion, Jennifer and Wesley cuddled, propped up on pillows against the headboard, half in and half out of the covers. Jennifer put her hand down to fondle his moist, soft, but still deliciously large member. Kissing the hard, hairy mound of his pec, she said with a sigh, “I extended our stay here at the Lodge for a couple of days because I knew you wouldn’t be ready to travel again until after we had a good long time like this. But when we get back to the city, there’s something I want you to do.”

He groaned, appreciating what she was doing down there, “If you keep doing that, you know what I’m gonna do for you.”

She licked his nipple and sent a charge of arousal through him. “That’s why I extended the suite. But when we get back to the city…Wesley, I want you to move into the penthouse with me. I want you there with me, always.”

He looked over at her, taking in the love in her eyes. “I’ve practically moved in there already. But I know what you mean. I never wanna have another day or another night without you again. It’s just too good, Jennifer.” He leaned down and kissed her, sucking at her lips. “I’ve gotta have you. All the time.”

She rested her head on his chest and continued letting her fingers travel up and down his root. “In a few years, it’ll be your Calling Time again,” she realized aloud. “Next time, we should go back to Canada, back to where you grew up. I don’t want to come back here again. There aren’t any she-bears in the forest in Quebec that you used to sleep with that I should know about, are there?”

“They’ve probably all got mates and cubs by now. They’re spoken for. Just like me.”

“Good,” said Jennifer. And they were quiet again for a moment, until she said, “And when we do get back to the city, I’m going to make us a celebration dinner. We should celebrate staying together now. I’ll make us trout almondine again, just like we had that first night.”

Wesley smiled, his piece lengthening and growing stiff again at her touch. “With no dessert?” he asked.

Lifting herself back up to look him in his sexy eyes, she grinned, “No dessert.”

Wesley lunged at her, seizing her lips in a sudden, steamy, wonderful kiss, and wrestled her onto her back. Jennifer, still grasping his renewed erection, took him between her thighs and guided him into her, and once again felt the call of the wild.
