Of course, when I first set out to write this story, I had no intention of exploring that question. My intention was to write a short, sexy, sinful story of a woman escaping to Rome, just like Princess Ann did. Much like in Roman Holiday, I thought my story would end with Eleanor walking away from Dante, grateful that he’d opened her eyes to what life could be when she allowed herself to forget about her responsibilities for a short period of time. Never did I anticipate exploring what could have happened after they went their separate ways. I’ve always wondered if Princess Ann and Joe Bradley found their way back to each other. And I’d like to think they would, that if they were truly meant to be together, fate would have made it so…just like fate’s had a hand in Dante and Eleanor’s story from the very beginning.
This has become one of my favorite stories to date, and I think it’s because I’ve made fate such a big part of this plot. We all like to believe in fate, in hope, in love. We all like to believe that even when things suck, there’s a reason for that, that the clouds will eventually part and the sun will shine again.
So first, I need to thank the reason I believe in fate, my wonderful husband, Stan, and the always adorable Harper Leigh. I’m truly blessed to have such a supportive husband and a daughter who makes me smile even when she’s throwing a tantrum. (Hello terrible twos!)
On that note, a huge thanks to my two nannies, Sharon and Brooke, for watching Harper so I have time to write.
When I first started this project, it was just supposed to be one book. Then it morphed into two. Then three. Then four. All along the way, my editor, Kim Young, was flexible, adapting to the changing storyline as this plot grew into the complex tale it is now. She’s the only one I’d ever trust with my manuscripts and I couldn’t do this without her eyes and brain.
Another big thanks to Laura Rossi for making sure all my Italian is correct.
To my beta team — Lin, Melissa, Joelle, Sylvia, Stacy, Victoria — Burnham Bitches for Life. Or should we be saying Italians Do It Better? #AlexanderWho
To my street team, thank you for all your help in promoting me. To my reader group, thanks for giving me a place to go when I need a break from writing. I love interacting with you about books or whatever else pops into our heads. To all the ladies at Social Butterfly PR, especially Emily, thanks for agreeing to take on this insane project and for keeping me on track and organized.
Last but not least, thank you to all you wonderful readers! Thanks for picking up my book. Thank you for falling in love with my characters. On behalf of all authors, thank you for reading.
I can’t wait to share the finale of Dante and Eleanor’s story with all of you. A storm is coming!
Peace and love,
