“I was glad to do it.”
“Speaking of death, have you seen that lawyer that would come into the coffee shop? The one who was always hopped up on espresso?”
“You mean Ethan. Yeah, he was in today. Why do you ask?”
Nadine smiled. “He’s my first assignment.”
“Ahh…that would explain why I saw his demise today when I touched him. I guess I get to show you the ropes. From what I saw it seemed to be this afternoon.”
She flashed him a quick smile. “Well that gives me plenty of time for one of those delicious Mocha Espressos you make, maybe add a little bit more chocolate.”
“I’m sure we can do that. You do know what they say about coffee, right?”
“No, what do they say about coffee?”
Vic chuckled before he answered. “It’s like death and taxes. It’s always going to be there.”
“Well good, because I don’t think I could live without my coffee.”
“You don’t—have to live with it—because you’re already dead.”
Nadine poked him until it hurt. “Ha. Ha. Very funny.”
“I know. I’m hilarious. Comes with being dead. You sure you’re going to be able to handle it?”
She poked him in the ribs one last time. “Sure am. You’re stuck with me. Until death do us part.”
