Rhett chuckles. “She always liked to know things first.” This time he peers up and says, “PJ, I promise to take care of Ellie for you. I love her, and will try every day to make her as happy as I can.”
My heart bursts and I clutch him against me. “So, you love me?”
“Yes,” he whispers. “You’re my light. My star. My sun and my moon.”
My throat tightens. “Guess what?” I answer softly.
“Hmm?”
“I love you too,” I say, then lead him to a blanket in the sand. We lay down beside one another staring into the infinite sky. “If we stay up to watch the sunrise, do you think we’ll be awake enough for Lovely Soul tomorrow?”
“We’ll be awake. I don’t think anything can contain your excitement.” He rubs my hair out of my face.
He’s right. Doc Angel invited us back to help run the art program at the Institute this summer. I’m hoping that maybe through art, I can reach out to someone like me and help them battle whatever demons they’re fighting. I want to be someone’s Angel or Ky or Rhett.
I want to help someone overcome their D.B. List.
As I snuggle close to Rhett and watch the sun come up, I realize there really are new beginnings. There is hope. There is light. And there is love in this world. We just need to know where to look for it.

I want to first, thank Georgia for letting me write another book for her. One that is truly close to my heart. I have a couple of family members who suffer from mental illness and every day is such a struggle for them. I wanted to give voices to those who need them. My sister-in-law’s fifteen-year-old sister committed suicide while I was writing this book. Paige was at most of our family gatherings and was a friend to both my daughter and my niece. To see such a vibrant life snuffed out was heartbreaking.
To my daughter and Mom who found their courage—I love you both so much. To my sister, Rachel who is a nurse and who helped me when I had research questions. To my husband and kids for always being so patient and understanding when I have to disappear for a while to write.
To my Agent Fran, who is awesome beyond compare. Thanks for the encouragement and hard work.
And to my lovely critique group YAFF. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without you.
Lastly and most importantly, to those of you still trying to find your voices—hang in there. You are loved and needed. And I hear you.
