Lost and Found: A FIGHT Novel Page 17

“Fuck me, Eddie,” I murmur on his lips.

“I was hoping you’d say that,” he whispers, sliding off his pants and shirt immediately before sliding into me and groaning. “Good lord, Red.” He groans, resting his forehead on mine.

“Too good, Eddie,” I pant. “Fuck it feels too fucking good.”

“I can’t get enough of you, Red. I love you so fucking much,” he whispers, pumping into me hard and slow. “I’m not going to last long, baby,” he whispers, slowing his movements.

“I don’t give a fuck, Eddie,” I buck up to him and pull his lips to mine again. “We have all the time in the world.” I smash my lips to his and ride out my second orgasm of the night.

“Hey, babe,” Eddie announces, walking into the bedroom. We got home three days ago and since then I haven’t left his side or the kids’. I feel like they’ve both grown up so much in the month I was gone.

I don’t want to miss any more of their childhood.

“What’s up?” I scoot over on the bed, allowing Dax some tummy time before I pick him up for more snuggles.

“So, I have to tell you something and I don’t want you to be mad at me, ok?”

I narrow my eyes at him.

“What happened? Shit, Eddie, I’m really getting tired of all the drama and shit,” I huff, rolling my eyes.

He chuckles and walks over to sit on the bed.

“It’s not bad. I promise. I just… well I kind of forgot about it really. With everything that went on recently, I’m just now getting all the paperwork for it that went through a couple weeks ago.” He hands over a pack of papers and I take it hesitantly.

“What is this?” I ask, letting my eyes fall on the top sheet of paper.

“This says contract, Tex. What the fuck is this?”

  “Just read it, ok?”

He reaches over and picks up Dax while I read the paperwork front to back. When I’m done I look over at him, tears in my eyes, and smile.

“You bought us a beach house in Florida?” I whisper.

“I thought… well you liked it out there so much when we would visit my sister, I thought it’d be a great vacation home.” He shrugs.

“A vacation home,” I whisper, my heart falling a little bit that it’s not going to be a forever home.

I love Texas, hell I’ve lived here all my life, but I’m not sure I’ll ever feel fully safe here anymore. Not with all the criminals Eddie’s helped put away.

“Well… yea, kind of.” He chuckles then stands with the baby. “Hear me out, ok? I bought it as a surprise. Paid in cash so you’d never know. I wanted a place to visit. With everything that’s happened lately, though… it’s got me thinking.” He stops and takes a breath, smiling wide at me. “Do you just want to move there? I mean… yea, it’s far from friends, but my sister is there. The kids would have their cousins to play with. It’s fucking beautiful, Red, it—”

  “Yes,” I blurt.

He pauses and smiles at me.

  “For real?”

  “Abso-fucking-lutely.”

  Eddie

It’s been a year since that hellish month. One year since I lost my Red and went to hell and back to find her. A year since my best friend was shot and hospitalized for longer than any of us would’ve liked.

Tatum wasn’t cleared until a month after the shooting to fly again, and that was the second longest month of my life. We had to fly home… I couldn’t keep Red away from the kids any longer and I was itching to get out of that place, too. Every fucking day I was on the phone checking in on him. He had some rough days after an infection set in and every day I was beating myself up for what he was going through while I was happy at home. When he finally made it home I think we were all ready to wash our hands of that godforsaken country.

And as of today it’s been six months since we’ve lived in Florida.

I never thought I’d move this far away from everything Red and I knew, but after everything that happened I knew we wouldn’t be safe if we stayed there.

Angel started Kindergarten a few weeks ago and loves her class. Dax is walking and running around this place like a madman. I’m still able to work remotely for people back in Texas as well as grow my business here in Florida. Red kept the gym in Texas open and still owns it. She left the running of it to Ash and Cammy, though. She’s in the process of opening a gym three blocks down from us here in Florida, specializing in MMA training, and already has some big clients on board.

We’ll never be totally in the clear… not with all the assholes I’ve helped put away… but I feel like we’re finally in a good place. A really fucking good place.

“Took you long enough,” Red says to me as I walk out on the beachfront.

Did I mention our house has private beach access? It fucking does. I’ve never been a huge beach guy, but the first time I watched my kids play here I fell in love.

“You can’t rush perfection, babe,” I grin, walking over and wrapping my arms around her. “How’re they doing?”

“Good,” she sighs, watching the kids play with their cousins.

“So, last night was fun.” I let out a low growl in her ear then give her a little nip and she chuckles.

“Which part?” She laughs. “The sand in the ass crack or the ocean helping finish us off?” She barks out a laugh then smiles and waves at the kids as they play in the sand.

I can’t help but laugh with her. We thought beach sex would be sexy… it always is in the movies. I’m convinced they use mother fucking fake sand or something, because what we did last night turned into more of a circus with sand in body parts we’d rather not have it in. It was damn funny, but damn funny kind of ruined the mood.

“Dumb-ass beach,” I grumble. It was all going well until that damn sand had to creep up her ass crack.

Red laughs and shakes her head.

“I’m sure we can make up for it tonight, Tex.” She winks at me then squeezes my ass.

“Every night, Red. Every damn night.”

She reaches up on her tiptoes and presses her lips to mine.

“Every damn night, Tex,” she whispers before walking off to play with the kids.

We found our happily ever after, a long-ass time ago. We fell in love and got married faster than anyone I’ve ever known. We’ve been through so much shit in our time together it would have broken most couples.

But we aren’t most fucking couples.

  We’re fucking ‘Reddie’.

An avid, self proclaimed closet book nerd by the age of nine, Dauphin didn’t take her love of fictional worlds public until she self-published her first book almost 20 years later. Since putting to paper the voices in her head, she’s fallen in love with a career of building, ruining, and rebuilding fictional character’s lives. Her love will always reside with the romance genre, but she does enjoy going off the grid every now and then with non-fiction.

From Southern Illinois, born and raised, she now resides with her husband, two small boys, and one very busy dog.
