Hours later, Henry was awakened by the surgeon who told him he could go back to see her. As they walked back to her room, the surgeon tried to ease his fears. “She is stable and will be just fine. We’re not sure about the fetus since it appears to be very early in her pregnancy- maybe a month along, but her HCG levels are at 30, so as long as they don’t drop, she can just follow up with her regular doctor.” Henry could feel his emotions soar. He couldn’t believe what this doctor just said to him. He was even more stressed now.
He slowly walked into her recovery room. She wasn’t quite asleep, but he didn’t want to startle her. The surgeon talked to her briefly to see how she was feeling and reviewed what all was done to her. “Now we’ll keep an eye on you while you’re here, but make sure you follow up with your OB/GYN to keep a close watch on you two. You’ve been under some shock-like stress, but you still may have a healthy pregnancy.” He closed the folder in his hand, smiled at the two and headed towards the door.
“Okay.” This was the only thing she could get out of her mouth. When the surgeon left, she looked at Henry with tears rolling down her face. “Did he just say that I’m pregnant?” Henry kissed her forehead and confirmed what the surgeon just said. She could see the joy in his eyes, but she was scared to death. “I wasn’t trying to trap you or nothing.” Henry laughed.“Baby, trap me!” He jokingly acted like he had on handcuffs. “You know you can’t trap me when I’m where I want to be. This is the best news I’ve had in a while.” He leaned in and kissed her. He placed his forehead on hers and looked into her eyes. “Henry, I’m scared to have a child. I mean to be totally responsible for another life, that’s a huge responsibility.” She placed her hand on her stomach and he placed his hand on top of hers. “We will be responsible together and don’t start acting like I’m not going be there to help you.” He flooded her face with kisses. “I really want this baby.”
Before she could say anything else, they were interrupted by a police officer. He came to get Sabrina account of what happened when Tearny shot her. After he completed the report, he thought he would give her some good news. “She won’t be a problem for you or anyone else. We’re not quite sure, but she seems to have had a mental break of some sort and is currently on a forensic psychiatric unit. She’ll be locked up for a while.” The officer then left. Sabrina was saddened that her friend had shot her. She was glad that she might finally get the help that she needed.
“Girl what have you gotten yourself into?” Sabrina could only shake her head as she heard Tamera’s voice. “Oh my goodness. How in the world did you find out I’m here?” Sabrina rolled her eyes thinking that everyone she knows must know by now. Tamera’s immediate response was, “Girl you know the streets be talking”. She laughed. “No really, Henry replied to my texts and told me. I guess I was blowing up your phone so bad he must have figured to just tell me. Hell, I don’t know.” She continued laughing but jumped when she heard a cough. She turned around to see Henry sitting on the other side of the room.
He introduced himself and they shook hands. Tamera became almost silent after realizing she had finally met Henry. “Hey do either of you want anything from the cafeteria?” He asked as he stood up. They both told him no and he told Sabrina that he would be back. He figured they wanted to talk without him sitting there so he walked past three vending machines to go to the cafeteria for a bottle of water, only to find that the cafeteria was closed. He got a bottle from the vending machine and walked back to the room slowly.
Tamera looked out the door to see if he was out of earshot and quickly came back in. “Um um um. Do you even know what to do with all that man?” She said as he sat down and crossed her legs. “He look like he could be addictive. And I’d cancel shopping with me to climb on that too.” She smiled as she sarcastically crossed her legs tighter.
Sabrina told her what happened with Tearny. Tamera was in disbelief and sat in silence. After a moment, she burst into laughter as she thought about the details Sabrina shared. “I’m sorry girl, but you’re going to get yourself fucked up screwing that man. You might want to find someone new or ride solo with some C batteries.”
Sabrina shook her head and smiled as she told her that she was pregnant by him. “You don’t worry about karma? I mean he was married when you started sleeping with him.” Tamera spoke with a low and serious tone. Sabrina already knew what her thoughts were just with that one question and decided not to entertain her. “Really Tee, he’s single. So I don’t see a problem.” Sabrina shrugged her shoulders and realized she was still very sore. They changed the topic and continued talking until Henry returned. Tamera shared that she had to pick up her daughter and told Sabrina to call her later.
Sabrina called and let her mother know that she was in the hospital only after Henry begged her to. To her surprise, her mother was in Charlotte in less than 12 hours. Ms. Green walked in the room while Sabrina was asleep and Henry was drifting to sleep in a chair next to her bed.“It takes a caring man to sleep in one of those uncomfortable ass chairs,” Ms. Green stated as she walked in the room. Henry immediately sat up and offered her the chair he had been lounging in.
Sabrina was glad to see her mother, but was embarrassed when she asked how she ended up there. Sabrina explained through slow deep breaths while nervously looking back and forth from her mother to Henry. He sat in a straight back chair and held his head in his hands for a moment when her mother exclaimed, “You got shot in your own home, while you two were having sex?”
“Mama she flipped out or something. I mean I know she had been mistreated by her husband, but she really flipped out.” Sabrina rested her head back as her mother tried to recall who Tearny’s family was. When she realized who she was, she clapped her hands together loudly. She told Sabrina that she was the child that was raped by a neighbor or cousin. The family sent him away, but didn’t get her any real help. “That poor child. They say that boy ruined her insides and they just swept that under the rug. She must have fallen into the lion’s den with that husband of hers.” Ms. Green looked out the window. She asked Henry where he was from and he politely replied that he was from Louisiana.
When she asked what his intentions were with her daughter, Sabrina interrupted her. “I’m pregnant”. Her mother stopped talking and looked at her, then she looked at Henry who silently shook his head in confirmation. Ms. Green told her that it was about time and gently hugged her. She looked Henry up and down. “Hmm, you better pray that child takes his head after you girl.” They knew she was joking and laughed with her, but that caused Sabrina to think about how big the baby might be.
Her mother stayed in town until a week after she was discharged home. Sabrina initially took medical leave from her job, but after a couple of weeks, they saw the fetal heartbeat on ultrasound. Henry couldn’t restrain his heart.
“Baby look, I make enough money that you don’t need to be worried about going to somebody’s office five days a week. I’ll cover your bills and you just rest. And make sure our baby is healthy.” He had asked her many times before, but she always declined. “You know I don’t need a man paying my bills. I can pay my own bills and I sure don’t need to be in a situation for you to up and rant about what all you do for me.” She sound upset but he knew that she was a little emotional about everything. “Okay, well you work for me keeping up my records. You can do it from home and I’ll make sure your pay is enough to cover your bills and spending.” He shrugged his shoulder waiting for an answer but she didn’t reply. “I can add you to my health plan as a new employee.”
It took a lot of coxing but he eventually talked her into resigning and just working for him one day a week keeping up his business records. She would go to his office just to enjoy the drive. He paid her mortgage in addition to her regular pay since she was not willing to move in with him, but it didn’t matter since he stayed at her place when he didn’t have the girls.
As her body changed to accommodate the baby over the months, she found herself feeling even more s
elf conscious about her appearance. She tried to wear long dresses or blouses when ever Henry was around. She would try to wait until he wasn’t in the office before she would get up to go to the restroom.
One Friday night, the girls wanted to have pizza. “Hey come and have a couple slices.” Henry stuck his head in the office door. Sabrina shook her head no and told him that she would be eating a salad when she finished. He said okay and started walking away. He stopped in his tracks. He went back in the office, closed the door and locked it. He turned off the computer monitor. “Come talk to me,” he gestured with his hand as he sat on the love seat on the other side of the room. She slowly walked towards him and stood in front of him. He rubbed her belly, which barely protruded in her fifth month of pregnancy. He then guided her to sit on his lap. “You know I love you and every inch of your body.” He kissed her shoulder and pulled her closer to him. She thought to get up, but before she could get her feet on the floor, he had her laying on the love seat and was pulling her long dress up. He kissed her from her pubic line over her belly ending at her enlarged breast. “I am so thankful that you’re in my life.” He slid his hands between her legs. She was extra sensitive to his touch so his hand became very wet as he slid his finger across her clit and to the entrance of her vagina. “Henry I can’t,” she stated in a stern tone while she looked at him as if to tell him not to touch her.
She started pulling her dress down and Henry shook his head. “Do you think I’m concerned about a little weight? You need to stop this nonsense. You’re hiding behind these big ass clothes. You’re not eating around me. Sabrina, this is our baby growing in you.” He looked like he wanted to laugh, but his voice sound angry. “Just give me a little bit. It will make us both feel better.” He whispered as he pulled her to the edge of the love seat and kissed her knees. She started thinking about the conversations with him telling her of his late wife’s rejection to him sexually. Sabrina wanted to have sex with him, but was uncomfortable with her body. As he kissed her inner thigh, she slowly became more receptive and stated, “just a little bit”.
Feeling like he needed to jump in before she changed her mind, he rubbed the head of his dick across her entrance until it was wet enough to slowly slide in without much force. Feeling the extra pressure due to her pregnancy caused him to want to moan, but he blew air out to keep from making too much noise. She loved feeling him inside of her and after a while, she didn’t think about how her body looked. She put her head back and enjoyed the slow rhythmic delivery of his swollen dick. He knew she was not near orgasm, but could feel his coming fast. He quickly pulled on his scrotum, held it tight and took a few deep breaths before he continued. He was not going to stop until she came. She loved how he always wanted her to be pleased.
Two weeks later he talked her into going on a weekend trip to meet his family in Louisiana. She was nervous, but his Aunt Germaine loved her. She sat and talked to her more than anyone else. Although she found it strange that his aunt kept referring to their unborn child as a boy, Sabrina enjoyed the stories she shared about Henry’s childhood. She sat up late talking to her that Saturday night. Aunt Germaine could sense that Sabrina was nervous or maybe even stressed.
“Child I have met a few of my nephews lady friends and you are the quietest I’ve seen. What’s bothering you?” Sabrina shrugged her shoulders then told her that she was just tired from the drive and visiting. Aunt Germaine didn’t believe for a minute that she was just tired. She scooted closer to her on the couch and put one arm around her shoulder and the other hand on her stomach. “One thing you have to understand is that some things must happen in order for things to go as they should. Don’t worry about how you came into his life or about karma. You both had to go through some things. Other people had to go through some things for you two to be affected. Good or bad. Honorable or not. These things brought you to this point with each other. And the two of you being together IS a good thing. You’ll see in due time.” She often wondered how his aunt knew that she worried about bad karma. But over time, she became more and more comfortable with the thought that she was where she was supposed to be.
Time seemed to fly. Sabrina and Henry’s baby boy was born with all of his father’s features. Soon she took on Henry’s last name and they were decorating what would be their home together on Lake Norman. She was more than happy to help him with raising Skyy and Dawn; especially since they were informed that their second child together would also be a boy. Sabrina loved being able to have girl time with them when it wasn’t their assigned weekend to visit with their grandparents. The girls were more than receptive to the love and attention she showed them. This actually helped Henry in his courtroom fight with their grandparents.
She kept in her heart what his Aunt Germaine said to her about being where she is supposed to be. She never heard from Tearny again. But she often thought about what Tamera said to her regarding karma. She decided that until the day came when karma would show its face, she would enjoy her life to the fullest being the best wife and mother she could be.
